The book I chose to read actually fits both option 2 (school's out forever) and option 4 (no more pencils...).
I read Nothing Daunted: The Unexpected Education of Two Society Girls in the West by Dorothy Wickenden. This book fits option 2 because both girls are pretty recent Smith graduates embarking on jobs as schoolteachers in rural Colorado. This book fits option 4 because, of course, it's about 2 teachers.
