message 1251: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I'm really enjoying Cinder but then I'm only 1 hr. into the audiobook.

message 1252: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am having a hard time with the war atrocities. And accepting a lead who commits them.

message 1253: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) In Soldiers, Regina?

message 1254: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yes sorry. I am still at the beginning where Vadim is reveling in (view spoiler) I do get that this is all he knows and all he has been trained to do.

message 1255: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) That was super hard for me too. I really struggled with (view spoiler). And I can't say that I 'over came' it. But, I did see a change, you could see a toll being taken. And I tried to remember, though I can't imagine any way of life that would make me like that, that his life is very different from mine. Perhaps the tight reign on the Soviet made him who he was.

I don't know, in some ways the book is magic, lmao. Because there's so much that happens in it that I would have said I'd never be able to overcome in a story, lines that I think couldn't be crossed. But somehow, by the end they had manipulated my emotions and I cared for them both. Magic, I tell you.

message 1256: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished Insurgent (Divergent, #2) by Veronica Roth yesterday and I did like it just a tad bit more than Divergent. Stacia, what did you think about the ending?

Carina, you are in for a treat. I read The Bronze Horseman Trilogy a couple of months ago and I couldn't put the books down. I still think about the characters now and then. I hope you enjoy it.

message 1257: by Leea (new)

Leea Regina wrote: "Yes sorry. I am still at the beginning where Vadim is reveling in [spoilers removed] I do get that this is all he knows and all he has been trained to do."

About Soldiers and Vadim and the war atrocities... (view spoiler)

message 1258: by Leea (new)

Leea Carina, wahoooo! The Bronze Horseman is an amazing book and I hope you love it. It's long but at the end you'll be looking for even more... then you have 2 more books :)

**Wendy** Hint Hint!!!

message 1259: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Hahaha! I agree with you about the soviet, and the not having a choice.

I love the BH pressure, it does seem silly now that I read this.

message 1260: by Mimi (last edited May 06, 2012 09:05AM) (new)

Mimi Smith | 94 comments Wendy, the magic continues. Even when there's something I really don't want for them and want to throw the book. I.Can't.Stop.Reading. Vadim... Those things he did are unforgivable. But my heart breaks for him every time he looks back on it in later books. So, I guess it's kind of forgivable? He changes. A lot, and seeing it and the love is beautiful. Still, I get how people can't overlook it. It's not exactly a teeny detail, lol.

I found some things in the m/m group interesting. Mainly some of A.Voinov's comment about editing and stuff. He does it, even though Marquesate doesn't agree(I think), cutting out scenes, some contraversial and otherwise. He also made a comment that if writing it again he wouldn't want Vadim(his character) to end up with Dan(Marq's). Something about...settling. Okay, I can see part of the point because of what comes in later books, but it still made me feel sad. As I said I don't like some things, but at the end I saw it as...they love each other and their flaws, and messed up bits and they can feel things for other people, but never like that. As I said, it made me feel...weird.

Should I join the pressuring, Wendy? Frankly, I loved the book, but I can never guess what someone's reaction to it will be. But f it doesn't grab you n the first half, it likely won't change, IMO.

I absolutely understand why people may not get passed it. I definitely wouldn't recommend it without a big warning.

I don't like that he's doing that. Regardless what Dan does or doesn't do later that makes him feel that way, stuff Vadim did was unforgivable. Either way, I think that's completely unprofessional.

message 1263: by Mimi (new)

Mimi Smith | 94 comments Yep, that's it...

message 1264: by Leea (new)

Leea Isn't that what unconditional love is, loving someone despite their flaws or things they have done in the past. I feel like that's what Dan and Vadim are working towards.

Clearly the authors have had some disagreement. Did they have a falling out, I feel like there is a story there...

message 1265: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am going to go comment and respond Mimi, Wendy and Leea in the other thread. :)

message 1266: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It sure sounds like it. Personally, knowing that I wouldn't want to read the new edited edition. It's perfect as it is.

message 1267: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) By the way, I think Blackout is my favorite in the Newsflesh trilogy so far. Blackout #1, Deadline #2, and then Feed #3.

message 1268: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Agreed Wendy. I am at about 15% and depsite me being thoroughly bothered, there is nothing at this point I would edit out.

message 1269: by Julie (new)

Julie (gpangel) I just finished Nothing To Fear (Romantic Suspense, #4) by Karen Rose and started Immortal Sins by Amanda Ashley and Primal Heat (Bite Me!) by Donna Grant

message 1270: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Regina wrote: "By the way, I think Blackout is my favorite in the Newsflesh trilogy so far. Blackout #1, Deadline #2, and then Feed #3."

Interesting! I'm only about 10% in, but it's good. I can't wait for (view spoiler)

I actually preferred Feed to Deadline.

message 1271: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I know!!!!! I also just learned (view spoiler). I can't wait to talk to you about that.

I liked Feed but preferred Shaun's pov.

message 1272: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Interesting because I love Shaun, he's my favorite. But I preferred George's clear headed voice. I think maybe too, it was really heartbreaking, (view spoiler). That was hard for me, I was sad a lot.

How far are you in?

message 1273: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) It was so sad, I agree and done so well. I am only 30% in, not a lot of reading time this weekend. But I am past the big reveal for (view spoiler)

You?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Finished Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas and it was decent but not one of my favorites.

Finally got around to adding Special Forces - Soldiers (Special Forces, #1) by Marquesate onto my currently reading since I made it to chapter 3.

I'll probably add something else later tonight but the book I was going to read didn't work out.

message 1275: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I need to get my hands on Soldiers.

I'm enjoying Cinder with it's mishmash of Cinderella & Snow White. Some parts are a bit simplistic and she doesn't seem the brightest tool in the shed but she's going through a difficult time.

message 1276: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Its a free download on the author's website. :)

message 1277: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Regina wrote: "Its a free download on the author's website. :)"

I had heard that but wasn't sure it it was true. Thanks for confirming!

message 1278: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yup, click on the GR book and there is a link to the author's website and you can go from there. :) Special Forces - Soldiers (Special Forces, #1) by Marquesate

Still only at 10%, not a lot of time for reading today. They've just decided to (view spoiler).

message 1280: by D.G. (last edited May 07, 2012 07:45AM) (new)

D.G. I started Forged in Fire by Trish McCallan , a romantic suspense with PNR elements and the beginning has been very exciting.

Season 2 of Sherlock started yesterday on PBS and I dreamed about Benjamin Cumberbatch all night long!

message 1281: by Regina (last edited May 07, 2012 08:43AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) Forged looks interseting DG.

I finished Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride , it was a lot of fun! I am not listening to The Treasure Map of Boys Noel, Jackson, Finn, Hutch, Gideon—and me, Ruby Oliver (Ruby Oliver, #3) by E. Lockhart

And I am reading Special Forces - Soldiers (Special Forces, #1) by Marquesate Blackout (Newsflesh Trilogy, #3) by Mira Grant

message 1282: by Leea (new)

Leea Just finished Special Forces - Soldiers (Special Forces, #1) by Marquesate - that was a hard review to write.

I want to read Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer but it's another trip to Sac and my moms birthday dinner tonight. A girl can dream :)

D.G. I keep meaning to start the Sherlock Homes series on PBS... I love Sherlock Homes.

message 1283: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Leea *Time is Love* wrote: "D.G. I keep meaning to start the Sherlock Homes series on PBS... I love Sherlock Homes. "

It's REALLY good. They found an amazing way to integrate modern technology with the stories. :)

You have to start from season 1 because it explains everything (how Dr. Watson returned from Afghanistan, met Sherlock and started a blog outlining their adventures. ;) The actors that play Watson and Holmes have an incredible chemistry and they are very funny together.

message 1284: by Leea (new)

Leea Yeah, season 1 is on Netflix. So it's not set in the past? Interesting, I love that idea. I can't wait!

message 1285: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Leea, your Soldiers review was really great. I loved the quotes added in, it really brought me back there. I love that freaking book.

message 1286: by Leea (new)

Leea Oh, thanks. It really means a lot to me. That was hard to review. I loved you're, great job!

I love highlighting on my Kindle, it's easier than my Nook. I just finally had some time to convert my books and then load some onto my Kindle. I'm not going to have too many this time on my ereader.

I was going to read Cinder but I don't know, sometimes when I read a book this intense I need a reset, light historical or CR.

message 1287: by Leea (new)

Leea Stacia ~ enchanted wrote: "Finished Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas and it was decent but not one of my favorites."

I loved this book for some reason... Haha! Sorry it didn't mess with you.

message 1288: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I find managing what is on my ereader very easy with Calibre -- I prefer to delete and go through them there. You can also add a "plug in" to calibre to do the folders for kindle -- collections.

I agree about highlighting and note taking on the kindle. Also, going back and seeing them all at once is much easier than on my Nook (I had the first Nook though).

message 1289: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I need that plugin, lol. I always sit and wish I could reorder my Kindle Collections when I plug it up to my computer and can't.

message 1290: by Leea (new)

Leea Hmmm... Not sure how to do a 'plug in' I would like to do folders for my Kindle. I'll go look :) Thanks!

message 1291: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Leea, you're review was great. I hope my great didn't come across patronizing. I meant it sincerely. I write my reviews and reread them and edit them and read them to my husband, lmao. So, I really meant it like, it was a great review.

Probably my favorite one for that book.

Funny, Aleksandr 'liked' my review, which was awesome. But then I noticed that he goes through and likes them all. Still, it's pretty cool.

message 1292: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) If you google kindle collections calibre plug in you will find a blog that guides you -- also, the forums mobilereads.com has a thread that is thousands posts long with the link to download it from the creator of calibre.

Regina (reginar) Wendy that is so sweet you read them to your husband! I still think it is cool that he "liked" it too.

message 1294: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited May 07, 2012 01:34PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) EFF GR right now. I had a post about how I can't figure out how to get to the highlights on my Kindle without going into the folder that has them for all of the books. On my Nook, I just have my current book open, and push the bottom of the screen and a menu pops up with the highlights and bookmarks for the books on it.

I figured it out for the Kindle once and now don't remember how to do it. But even the one time I figured it out, I seem to remember having to go through at least 3 steps to get to my damn highlights. There has to be an easier way!

Anyway, just finished Elemental (Elemental, #0.5) by Brigid Kemmerer and it was cute and the banter was great sexual tension. It was a nice little freebie short prequel that makes me want to read book 1, which is good because I already have book 1 ready to go.

I get what you mean Leea about the reset but I don't think Cinder is all that heavy either, since it's YA romance, although I guess it's not mindless either since there's a sci-fi bent to it. I'm liking it so far but I love that the prince hid himself under a hood. I have a sick obsession with men wearing hoods and gloves.

message 1295: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Thanks for the links Regina. I'll be checking those out when I get home.

I have to hear my reviews out loud so I know that the sentence structure makes sense. LOL, he's very patient seeing as he's not an avid reader and doesn't really care.

message 1296: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Cinder is not dark but it's not light either. :)

I so wish I could create folders in the Kindle or Bluefire apps. I have a bunch of book in both but no way to organize them.

That's why I'm using iBooks more and more.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Yes, you're probably right D.G. I'm only a few chapters in, so I can't say yet. It's definitely not mindless, and sometimes I know that we just need to pick up something that doesn't require thinking.

message 1298: by Gwennie (new)

On my Kindle if I'm in the book I want to get my highlights for I hit the menu button and go down to 'notes and highlights'. That opens it up for me.

message 1299: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited May 07, 2012 01:53PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Okay, I'll have to play around with it.

I'm really starting to wish that I'd waited to buy my newest ereader until the glow readers had come out because my poor Kindle is getting neglected. I'm finding that I load most of my stuff onto the backlit reader because if I start a book during the day, there's a chance I might want to finish it while reading in bed.

Do you think there's any chance that Amazon would let me send in my touch as a credit toward purchasing the glow? I've only used it a few times.

message 1300: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) It wasn't like that in the first generation Nook -- unless there was a software update?

Yes, with book open - -menu -- view my notes & marks and they appear. Super easy. :)
