Peggy I realize that a lot of people have been pulled into the idea of a love triangle and 'teams'.
I believe that Oliver writes closer to reality, in which case Lana is still very young, only 18, and yes she has been through many things which are not completely finished; the stuff with her mother, most likely people will look for Julian, and the rebellion, but she is still basically a child. I don't want or even believe most of the things I did when I was 18 and I'm only 22 now. Lana will and should change, in which case, her love interests will and should change. I like both boys and feel as though they are necessary for her growth but ultimately I don't believe either boy is "right" for her.
There is so much more to being in a relationship then just loving someone.

Jill Dunlop I think Lena should be with Alex, because if not for Alex Lena would be with Brian.. Seriously gross. Alex made Lena who she is and that's who Julian fell in love with. I just hope Lauren doesn't pull a Gale and Peeta thing, Alex is obviously the Gale in this case. It sort of seemed like Julian knew that Lena could take her to the wilds, so he wouldn't end up like his brother. I honestly wouldn't mid for Lena to be with Julian but I would rather it be Alex.

Gretchen It is too early to tell. One saved her, the other she saved. Sometimes at different times in our lives we love different people for where we are at.

However, with that being said, I find Lena behaving as a typical silly girl and her character has disappointed me in this second book.

AJ This is what Lauren Oliver said in an interview:

Did you anticipate uneasiness from readers with the introduction of Julian and the love triangle element?
LO - Oh, yes, certainly. But it bothers me when people refer to it as a “love triangle.” I’d prefer that people wait until the third book to see the way that things shake out!

We are both elated and crushed by the return of Alex, given the circumstances. Is it safe to say that he’s changed just as much as Lena, if not more?
LO - Oh, absolutely. He has had some dark, dark times.

I'm team Alex all the way, and was waiting for him to come back the whole time I was reading. I tried so hard not to like Julian, knowing that Alex was still alive, but I did find myself falling for him a bit. Alex is still #1 though.

But I think that he and Lena have both changed so much since Delirium, it will be very interesting to see how they are with each other. As LO said above, I don't think she's going to go down the traditional 'love triangle' route (well we can always hope!). Can't believe we have to wait so long!!!

I completely agree with you. I wish they would not of thrown the love triangle in and just let her grow without the already present feeling of guilt into sickness. She took months to get over Alex and as much as some people would hate me to say I just cannot see her with him anymore. Alex was Lena's first love he met her before she became the person she is now. As previous people have posted the old Lena is dead and with that comes the final conclusion of lose and then splat he comes the expected but yet sickening reintroduction of Alex. As much as everyone hates Lena for moving on and thinks that she should of looked for him she did but sometimes you have to face the fact that they are not coming back and you take it and grow. She was not unfaithful to his memory she made Julian very much aware of him and explained the situation. Julian and her really are much more alike. Both grew up in this world where love is not existent never knew anything else then you find someone and you understand it is not bad. Both of them grew so much while Alex was always strong and the same. Now both Alex and Lena have changed and with that comes new people and experiences. I want her to end up with Julian they fit better but as you mentioned Lauren Oliver will pick Alex just because that is how it is done in these love triangle books.

Celena I really cant decide who i like better! Julian or Alex, they are both great! I think Lena would have gone looking for Alex too, if she didnt think he was dead. She hadn't stopped thinking about Alex throughout the whole book until Julian came along and she began to fall in love with him. But, i think that Julian will have some health issues in the wilds. (his cancer) Im very curious to see how this love triangle will play out in the third book.

But i think the reason i cant really decide is because Lauren Oliver (author) only gave Alex one line of speech in the book. Which makes it difficult to know if he still wants to be with Lena or not. Im interested in seeing how Julian will react to this. I really hope this year goes by fast so i can read Requiem and get the answers to all my questioins!

Lily Ha ALEX!
Ohmygosh, their love for each other in Delirium was beautiful, and he can't be replaced! I mean, Julian isn't bad either, but I'll be heartbroken if Lena chose him. STUPID CLIFFHANGER.

I was so upset when I found out that there was going to be a love triangle in this book! I felt that Alex's love was perfect and now it just feels...tainted. I like Julian but he just sounds a little wimpish to me. "thanks for saving me". "I always feel safe with you". Doesn't that sounds a little...um... Like a damsel in distress to you? NOT attractive to me. Alex can hold his own. But I hope Julian at least ends up with Raven or someone else, becaus do don't want him to end up alone either

Darienne I am confused about the cure. In
The first book did the mother have to have a second procedure preformed after Lena's father passed away? And if so it still did not work? Is this correct? In the second book Julian's delay of the cure puts him at risk because it does not have a high success rate before and after the age of 18 years old, and because of his previous cancer? isn't this correct too? So how is it possible that Lena's mother had the surgery performed twice?

Also, I don't think that Alex had the surgery performed, he is too old.

message 110: by AJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

AJ Lena's mother actually had the surgery three times but it didn't work any of those times.

Yes that's right about Julian, and Alex hasn't had the procedure (that we know of...). But noo, I don't think he's had it.

Like you said she fell for Julian, a guy she only knew for like two weeks, but she only knew Alex like a couple of months also....And on top of the fact that she didn't even know Alex that long either, she also in close quarters with Julian for a while, and when they escaped they were still with each other constantly. So I would say they had plenty of time to get to know each other.

I thought Julian had a tumor and seizors from a beating from his father, not brain cancer. ?

Gretchen No the beating triggered the first seizure which upon investigation led them to the multiple brain tumors.

message 114: by Emily (new) - rated it 3 stars

Emily I have to go with Alex. I don't know what will happen though because right before Alex walked in, Lena promised Julian that they would stay together. Do you think that she will stay with Julian? Or go back to Alex? Personally, as much as it pains me to say it, I think she will stay with Julian just because she thought Alex was dead and moved on and such....

I hope so. Because I am Team Alex, all the way.

message 119: by Alex (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alex I am Team Alex all the way. Ever since he winked at her from the observation deck. Julian is almost like the rebound guy. Lena, I don't think she got over Alex, she BURIED Alex, that's not the same as getting over him. Julian, well, he's never interacted with an uncured girl. So it's not really surprising he fell in love with her because she was the First person who wasn't emotionally disconnected that he's spoken to in a long time. Lena, she was vulnerable. I think Julian would be better as Lena's best friend. After Alex.

Darienne I believe I remember reading in the second book that delaying the cure is dangerous...? Julian addressed this in his speech towards the beginning of the book. Delaying the procedure is one of the complication, aside from his brain tumors, it is also why he is being pushed to get it done with in the next month or so...? This popped into my head because I read an earlier thread about the possibility of Alex being cured. The fact about Lena's mother having multiple procedures seemed to negate the dangers of having the surgery later then eighteen. I am hoping that the following book does not turn out that Alex has the surgery preformed because this will be an easy loop hole for Lauren Oliver. I will be almost as devistating as the ending of the hunger games. An easy fix to a complicated situation!

I am just hoping that it is not a possible

I swear if Alex is cured i dont think i will finish the book, she will then probably end up with Julian and wont have to make a choice oh who to be with. So like you said an easy loop hole for Lauren Oliver.

message 122: by AJ (new) - rated it 5 stars

AJ I actually think there's going to be a sad ending. Somebody is obviously going to die - Julian would be the obvious choice, but I wonder if she'll kill Lena off? Maybe she'll sacrifice herself for one of the boys and that will become the ultimate show of love.

Blah, blah, blah! I just want my HEA - with Alex ;)

Mary Gretchen wrote: "Wow Mary, I would hate to be the person in your life who gets sick."

On a serious note my father died of cancer and I took care of him every day. My mom died from complications from diabeties. Both parents died at home and I helped take care of them. That is my purpose in life. I am a care taker. I have older siblings who also helped out. That was our gift to our parents, to allow them to die at home surrounded by their children in comfort. We dealt with the stress with humor and love and God's guidance. Can't help my morbid and wicked sense of humor. No offense intended.

message 125: by Carly (new) - rated it 4 stars

Carly Definitely Alex. No question.
I think Julian is a sweet character, and I liked him but there was almost something too naive about him. He reminds me of a little brother that I want to protect and shelter. I know love isn't always about passion but there was literally none I could sense between Lena and Julian. I feel as though she is confusing her loneliness for love and that Julian could end up equally happy with anyone else.
That being said, it depends how much Alex has changed over time and honestly I'm not really sure Lena deserves his love a second time (I am still not overly fond of her character. Her "nobody loves or cares about me" speech from the first book still irks me).

Gretchen @Mary I am so incredibly sorry. Both for my comment and your experience. I can see where you dealt with the subject so tongue and cheek now, because sometimes you have to use humor for subjects close to our own heart.

@Gretchen, my comment was not to make you feel bad. Really We consider it a Blessing from God to have been able to give our parents the ending of their lives here on Earth the way they wanted, surounded by us and comfort. Now they r in Heaven's World. I feel good about that. Trust me when I say lots of people do not get my or my brothers and sister's crash sense of humor. That's okay because the people who truly know me do and still love me for it anyway, although my BFF says I can not talk at her furneral should she go first....AHAHAHHA!

Gretchen @Mary, I did not take your comment as you were trying to make me feel bad. I could tell you were not angry. I also lost my father, when I was a child, so i know how it sucks and I owed you an apology no matter what. I assumed you were a young teen writing off the cuff. While I felt myself slowl-y, slowl-y falling for Julian, and eventually running togather with Lena to go and save him from the exectution, I can only say one word.

Alex.

Why would you forget about him Lena? Why? The boy who took a bullet for you. Who rescued you from being cured. Who told you your mom's alive. Who loved you...

Why would you give that away for Julian, who is affected with Cancer. Do you WANT to get hurt? He's gonna die, and where will you be? Heartbroken. with no guy whatsoever.

I like Julian, but Alex is Lena's one and only forever.

But she truly truly thought Alex was dead. She didn't forget...she was pushing the hurt away. Julian was like her next best thing. Since she really thought Alex was dead, she didn't want to be sad and alone her whole life, she wanted to love again. Julian was there...and she wanted to feel better, so she caved. She didn't want to want him, but she did.

Her feelings for Alex, I think, are much deeper and stronger however. So who knows what will happen.

Yhen Villas In Delirium, I'm definitely rooting for Alex. I love him, really, and his minimal appearance in Pandemonium makes me heartbroken. But in Pandemonium, Julian filled the broken pieces of Lena's (and my) heart. I think that if Lena really loves Alex in the first place, she will never love Julian and really believe that Alex is dead. No, I'm not saying that it's Lena's fault, but basically, for now, I'M TEAM JULIAN (because I want Alex for myself, JUST KIDDING!) ♥

Andrea The first book left me heart broken!!! I really really wanted to cry so much because I loved Alex!!! Before I started reading Pandemonium I knew Alex was not dead because I read it on one review and totally spoiled it for me :( but the ending was still very shocking :0 !!! And the way Alex said don't believe in her omg!!! Omg I felt for him he is heartbroken :( ....anyhow I liked Julian and felt bad for him because everyone deserves freedom and to find someone to love and be loved back but I wouldn't change my Alex for anything in this world...and it's just not the fact that he came first and whatever but I just didn't feel that spark ...the spark that was there between Alex and Lena ....I just didn't connect with Julian and believe me I tried and tried to be fair because Lena thought Alex was dead and she was just moving on and I think I would do te same but still a love like you don't let go so easily and I think she is not really in love with Julian either it was more the fact that they were alone and helpless ...just the two of them and well felt attraction....but true love? True love = Alex period. I know it's going to be super hard for Lena to decide but I'm 100% on Alex's side even though the way He's described at the end of the book makes me believes he has changed soooo we'll see ....Jesus one year?!!? I can't wait

Glennamargaret I almost feel like it's some weird, twisted cycle. Alex was from the Wilds and made Lena see the truth, and then Lena did the same thing to Julian. It's like, now Lena is Alex and Julian is Lena... that makes sense right? Kind of? I just think it would be horrible for Lena to just turn her back on Julian after opening his eyes. And that she moved on so quickly... I don't think she really showed her grief.

message 147: by Nana (new) - rated it 3 stars

Nana Alex. I know the current events and time has changed them, but I hope Alex wouldn't be ~completely cold. Though he would possibly be. and predictably in a large amount. but here's to another wish of Lena shifting his angst and channeling it back into a more hopeful and better state. THERE GOES MY SOFT SPOT FOR ANGST AND RESULTING COMFORTS OR MAKE UP SESSIONS.

I don't deny that what she has with Julian isn't precious. But once
pure-simple-now-possibly-complicated-great-torturous-but-always-great.Always- love she has with Alex? Champs me hands down.

message 148: by Dia (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dia I'm for Alex. She only knew Julian for what, 2 weeks? Now I'm sure that since they were in a desperate situation, that's nothing compared to what Alex and Lena had and STILL have. Julian didn't teach Lena anything. He didn't show her a different path of life she could take. Hell, he barely changed her life. Alex showed Lena what real love was, he showed her what the Wilds was really about, and he let her go while he stood by and got shot. For all we know, while Alex was rotting in the Crypts he was probably tortured and who knows what. Yeah, Julian took a man's life for Lena, but Alex risked his OWN life. And that's a bigger sacrifice. And if you ask me, I think Lena is MOSTLY with Julian to help her forget about Alex.

Kristin I actually wrote to Lauren Oliver and basically begged (embarrassing, I know) her not end Lena's story in a tragedy. (She seems to like the tragedies, after all) Shockingly, she wrote back. From the response, I would say that we are not in for a twilighty everybody's happy ending.
