2012 March Pick It For Me! Challenge
Sandy hello,
I'll be picking your recs - unfortunately I'm drowning in studying for tomorrow's History exam (crucial for me getting enough points to get my ass in a college I want), so I'll post them tomorrow - or if I have enough of Henrik VIII, Medieval Wars and so, I'll do them during my study break. Anyway - looking forward to it! ^^

Here are your recs!
1. Mad as a March hare: Double Clutch by Liz Reinhardt, I thought the title was a bit strange for an intense young adult love triangle plot. Anyway, this book is go..."
Thanks for the picks. I will try A Kingdom of Dreams and The Daughter of Siena.

Fran, glad you found books to read! I enjoyed picking you.

1. Mad as a March hare: Both The Time Traveler's Wife and The Book Thief have an original premise. One features a relationship that is hampered by the husband's habit of disappearing at any given moment to travel through time; the other is set in WWII Germany and is narrated by Death.

2. Non Compos Mentis: To Kill a Mockingbird contains lots of legal drama (among other things). The Handmaid's Tale deals with a disturbing futuristic society in which Fundamentalists rule. Or, you could visit the magical world of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

3. (Not So) Sweet 16: Meet one of my favorite literary Alpha Males, Jamie Fraser, in Outlander (which was also published more than 16 years ago). Another unforgettable Alpha Male is Alexander Belov in The Bronze Horseman. A note of warning: if you choose either of these books, be sure to clear your calendar because you will want to continue with the remaining books in the series. :-)

4. The lights are on, but nobody's home: Go to your GR recommendations and find a book that you think your pickee would enjoy but that you've never heard about before. Surrender looks really good!

5. Elite 8:It Had to Be You is a well-written romance about a woman who inherits ownership of a football team. A very popular book that I found hard to put down is The Pillars of the Earth.

6. Nutty as a fruitcake: I didn't notice a lot of PNR or Urban Fantasy on your Read shelf.
I highly recommend J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series, starting with Dark Lover. You may also enjoy the vamp-hunting exploits of Cat and Bones starting withHalfway to the Grave. In the mood for horror? Try Stephen King's classic Carrie

7. Final 4: Since you enjoyed The Hunger Games, see what happens next in Catching Fire. Another post-apocalyptic book that is well-written and keep-the-lights-on creepy is The Passage. Your most-read author is Sophie Kinsella, so you would probably enjoy
Mini Shopaholic: A Novel.

8. Neither rhyme nor reason: Your random book choice is Anna Dressed in Blood.

9. Buddy Read...Chicken or Egg
Your TBR and mine are well-matched! I would be happy to read any of these with you:
Revolution, Brooklyn or Firefly Lane

I hope you have a great month of reading!

I'll be picking your recs - unfortunately I'm drowning in studying for tomorrow's History exam (crucial for me getting enough points to get my ass in a college I want), so I'll post..."
Aleksandra, good luck with your exam! I hope you ace it! :-)

Hope I found something you might like!
1. Mad as a March hare:
Out Of Her League by Kaylea Cross - Set in Canada, and the start to one of my favorite suspense series of all time!
2. Non Compos Mentis:
Tempting Danger by Eileen Wilks - This one deals with magic and the law, and is one of the most underrated UF series out there, in my opinion.
3. (Not So) Sweet 16:
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen - You've enjoyed Austen before! I did this one for a PIFM last year and adored it.
4. The lights are on, but nobody's home:
Cast in Shadow by Michelle Sagara West - This was in my recommendations and looks pretty cool.
5. Elite 8:
See Jane Score by Rachel Gibson - One of my fave sports-themed romances. Luc "Lucky" Martineau will make you drool! I see you like audiobooks, and this one is great in that format.
6. Nutty as a fruitcake:
Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella - You seem to read every genre, so I picked my favorite light/funny read. This book made me laugh out loud several times!
7. Final 4:
Beyond the Night by Joss Ware - Post-apocalyptic, romantic goodness....and zombies!
8. Neither rhyme nor reason:
Skinwalker by Faith Hunter
9. Buddy Read...Chicken or Egg?
It seems you and I are both big on series, so a standalone was not easy to come by. I would be happy to buddy read either:
The Duke of Shadows by Meredith Duran
And One Last Thing ... by Molly Harper

Here are my picks for you. Hope you’ll find something interesting!
1. Mad as a March hare: Book with an original premise, a funky title or set in Canada – “Practice makes Perfect” by J..."
Hi Ana,
Thanks for the recommendations! I will choose A Rogue By Any Other Name
Thanks again!

Thanks for great picks!

Fortunately, Firefly Lane is available at the library so I can pick it up today.
We can buddy read "informally" if you want, or I can start a thread in case others want to join in. Let me know if you're able to get it!

Thanks! I'll be patient! Let me know if you have questions."
I read through everything and it looks like I'm picking you a total of 8 books, with at ..."
Sounds good!

Thank you for the wonderful picks!!
I will start with Red-Headed Stepchild, and if I have time I will also read Ghost Story.
Sue-

I will be looking through your books either at lunch or after work today and should get up your picks by late tonight. Sorry for the delay!
Sue-

1. Mad as March Hare
Bobbie Faye's Very (very, very, very) Bad Day - just the amount of very's in the title made it funky to me ;)
Bridge of Scarlet Leaves - a very non-traditional romance featuring the internment camps of the Japanese during WW2 - Kristina is going to be joining us for ask an author this month if you like it ;)
2. Non Compos Mentis
Law - Everywhere That Mary Went (the first in Lisa Scottaline's Rosaro and Assoc. series) or Just the Sexiest Man Alive
Religion - In the Bleak Midwinter - the first in the Rev. Claire Ferguson series
Magic - Visions of Magic
3. (Not So) Sweet 16
Déjà Dead - the first in Kathy Reichs Temperence Brennan series - bonus the character is over 40 and its been out for over 16 years
Home Again - Kristin Hannah is always a go-to read for me, this is one of her earlier books
The Gamble or Years - LaVyrle Spencer was my first intro to romance and I still love her to this day and these are 2 of my favorites
Men Out of Uniform: Three Novellas of Erotic Surrender - nothing like military men for a bit of Alpha ;)
4. The Lights Are On, But Nobody's Home
Domestic Violets - this one just sounded intriguing and i'm not sure if you will like it or not, but hey what they heck ;)
Forged in Fire - the cover def. attracted me and it sounds interesting as did this cover A Bed of Thorns and Roses
5. Elite 8
Body Check; Simply Irresistible or Double Play for some new sports series ;)
The Other Life - this is one of the popular books on GR's read now, as is this one, No One Is Here Except All of Us
6. Nutty as a fruitcake
Sacrifice - this came as a recommendation off my Nordic Noir shelf and seems a bit different from what you normally read
Endeavor in Time as a bit of a dystopia/futuristic kind of read
The Curtis Reincarnation - we are doing this as a buddy read for the m/m read here this month, if you want to join us
7. Final 4
there is a bit of everything here, from your favorite authors The Wolf Gift (anne rice) or Black Hills (Nora)
Timeless or Fury of Fire as a book published in a leap year
Angelfall or Partials for post-apocalyptic
8. Neither Rhyme Nor Reason
since you have SOOO many books on your TBR, I used a tried and true method of random.org...plugged in the number of books on your shelf and randomly selected 3 books and they were:
Revolutionary Road (#6366 on your shelf)
Everybody Sees the Ants (#8352)
Waiting for Mr. Darcy (#5255)
9. Buddy Read...Chicken or Egg
I don't know if I will have time to do a buddy read this month, but here are a few first in series that we share in common:
Dead Iron - I like her Allie Beckstrom book that i've read, so this could be an interesting one to try ;)
Show No Mercy or
since we have 1.5 listed on our shelves (Photographs & Phantoms), why not try book 1 - Steam & Sorcery

I hope you can find something you can enjoy.
"
Wow, great picks Amy J!
Buddy read: Yes, yes, yes!! I bouught

The Gum Thief or The book thief

2-Non Compos Mentis: From your TBR Skin Game or Naked In Death

5-Elite 8: You have this one on your TBR added recently Sink or Swim or if you're a football fan The Perfect Play

6-Nutty as a fruit cake: few classics maybe The Diary Of a Young Girl from your TBR or Rebecca this one I thought I wouldn't like.

7-Final 4: I didn't see anything you read from this genre so here's what I suggest:

8-Neither rhyme nor reason:

9-Buddy Read: Both are on your wish-list, and both I delayed for several time.

Hi Leslie!
Buddy read:

Thanks!
Karlynp

Ok so I am doing these picks while I am work today so it might take me awhile to get through this. Don't want to get caught! Here are your picks.
1. Mad as a March hare: Wither by Lauren DeStefano. This is on your TBR and it has a very original story. It is interesting.
2. Non Compos Mentis:Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia. This story has lots of magic in it!
3. (Not So) Sweet 16:Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James. I just read this whole series and loved it! The male character is very alpha male!
4. The lights are on, but nobody's home:Burning Alive by Shannon K. Butcher. I saw this and it looked interesting. It seems you enjoy paranormal series like me so if you want try this one. I am going to put it on my TBR too.
5. Elite 8:Flat-Out Sexy by Erin McCarthy. This is on your TBR and it is about sexy race car drivers. I enjoyed this story a lot.
6. Nutty as a fruitcake:Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean. This book is fun, flirty and hilarious!! I LOVED this book and I highly recomend it! It is not so short but it is so good you won't want to put it down!
7. Final 4:Delirium by Lauren Oliver. This is a great apocaliptac story.
8. Neither rhyme nor reason:Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank. LOL this book was on the random page I picked!! I swear!! I have read this story and it is good. I am looking forward to finishing the series!
9. Buddy Read...Chicken or Egg? Ok so I am Chicken so the book I would like to read with you is How to Marry a Duke by Vicky Dreiling. This story looks promising.
Ok so it looks like we have similiar interests in books. If these picks don't work for you let me know and I will pick again.
Enjoy and Happy Reading!!
Megan L

1. Mad as a March hare: Book with an original premise, a funky title or set in Canada
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (funky title)
2. Non Compos Mentis: Book with a plo..."
You did great Sara! I'm thinking that I will probably read the Abrahan Lincoln book. I just bought it about two weeks ago so this might be a sign to go ahead and read it! Plus the movie should be out in a few months.
I'm also going to check with my library for The Iron Duke, The Sisters Brothers, and Penelope and Prince Charming.
Will you have time to do the buddy read if I am able to find the book in a timely manner?
I'll let you know when I make my final decisions. =0)
I hope that you are enjoying the challenge so far.

Hello! I'll post your picks tomorrow. It's late here and your TBR list is kind of long. I want to make sure I don't repeat anything. :)"
Hi Brett! No problem I understand. I will look for your picks later then. :)

Glad you liked them! I figure it's better to have more to choose from than less. Immortal in Death is an excellent choice, I love that series. Hope you enjoy whatever you pick!

Mad as a March Hare
How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf
Non Compos Mentis Dead Witch Walking
(Not so) Sweet 16 Storm Front
The Lights are on but nobody is home My Love Lies Bleeding
Elite 8 City of Bones
Nutty as a Fruitcake One for the Money
Final 4 Magic Slays
Neither rhyme nor reason A Farewell to Arms
Team Egg buddy read Divergent
Isabella - let me know if you have any suggestions on the buddy read - this book has been showing up all over the threads along with Legend...

Hi, buddy read sounds great. I have a nook and it's not too expensive, so I don't mind purchasing it. I have the kindle app on my android tablet (nook conversion) but I've never borrowed a book before on it. Anyway, I'll be happy to set up a thread and anybody else can join in. When would you like to start? What about around the 10th of the month?

These are your picks, I hope you find something you like, I tried to do my best :)
1-Mad as a March hare: Try to see which thief you prefer :)
The Gum Thief or The b..."</i>
Isabella
Thanks for the great choices - I already have [book:Skin Game, Sink or Swim and Never A Bride so I'm definitely going to read at least a couple of these.
I'm also torn between most of the others I don't have but cos I try to limit my book buying every month (although I'm hoping for an Amazon voucher for Mother's day this month) I think it will be between No Place to Run, Midnight Man and The Road. (I'd probably choose The Perfect Play but you can't get it for the kindle in the UK).

Here are your picks. Hope you find something you will enjoy.
Mad as a March hare:
Sins of the Heart (set in Canada)

Non Compos Mentis:
Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare (main character is a state senator)

(Not So) Sweet 16: Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon (definite alpha male)

The lights are on, but nobody's home: The Duke by Gaelen Foley (never heard of this author)

Elite 8: Double Play by Jill Shalvis (Baseball)

Nutty as a fruitcake: Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg (a book I read for a lit course and ended up loving)

Final 4: Nightfall by Ellen Conner (Post-apocalyptic)

Neither rhyme nor reason: Dating A Cougar by Donna McDonald (love the title)

Buddy Read...Chicken or Egg?
Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas. (Been meaning to start this and would love a buddy read).

1. Mad as a March hare: Bitten by Kelley Armstrong I enjoyed this and I see you have a few Armstrong books on your read and tbr or Journey of Souls: Case Studies of Life Between Lives by Michael Newton I found the title intriguing and I think it sounds like quite a fascinating read.
2. Non Compos Mentis: Blue Moon by Alyson Noel You gave the first book 4 stars and I have recently read this one and really enjoyed it too or Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder loved this book, also I think it is really different to most magic/paranormal books.
3. (Not So) Sweet 16: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon Jamie in the book is a real alpha male.
4. The lights are on, but nobody's home: My Love Lies Bleeding by Alyxandra Harvey thought I'd put a vamp book in here or My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent another book I thought sounded interesting.
5. Elite 8: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins you have to read this, I loved this book and I think you would really enjoy it or One Day by David Nicholls this one I did ponder whether to suggest but I loved it and thought I'd let you decide.
6. Nutty as a fruitcake: Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See I decided to go with historical fiction for this one. I gave this book 5 stars I found it a really fascinating read or Witch Child by Celia Reesit is historical but it is also paranormal so this one might appeal to you.
7. Final 4: The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson published on a leap year and it is on your tbr or Celebrity in Death by J.D. Robb as you have read all or nearly all of the In Death series.
8. Neither rhyme nor reason: Abandon by Meg Cabot This just stuck out to me.
9. Buddy Read...Chicken or Egg?
The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong another Armstrong for you as we both have this on our tbr or The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
Hope you like these picks, enjoy :)

I've already read Out of Body but would love to join you for a buddy read of Deadly Descent.
I will also read Something About You and maybe get to Desperately Seeking a Duke as well.

1. Mad As a March Hare: These books are very different, but both have original premises... Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Soulless.

2. Non Compos Mentis: I decided to stick with a magic theme here but, once again, these are two very different books... The Night Circus is YA fantasy with a bit of mystery and Magic Bites is UF with a kick-ass sarcastic heroine and lots of humor.

3. (Not So) Sweet 16: You seemed to like another Susan Elizabeth Phillips book so I thought you'd really enjoy It Had to Be You published in '94. My other choice is probably out of your comfort zone (not to mention large), but it's one of my favorite books and I try to recommend it as often as possible, Outlander published in '91.

4. The Lights Are On, But Nobody's Home: You seem to really enjoy YA so using my GR recommendations I came up with two I thought you'd like... I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You and The Naming

5. Elite 8: Ok, I have one sports themed book and one popular best seller... Flat-Out Sexy focuses on the world of stock car racing, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is just a classic :)

6. Nutty As A Fruitcake: Fifty Shades of Grey is probably not a book you would normally choose for yourself, but it was my favorite read of 2011. Some classify it as erotic romance, but for me it kind of hovers on the edge. A really funny read you might like is The Spellman Files.

7. Final 4: There was only one author who was repeated on your shelves and that was Terry Pratchett. I've heard very good things about Nation, you might want to check it out. I didn't see The Hunger Games on your lists and I'd be really surprised if you haven't read it yet. In case, you haven't... here ya go!

8. Neither Rhyme Nor Reason: The very first book I saw on your TBR caught my fancy was Bossypants by Tina Fey, I'm dying to read it.

9. Buddy Read... Team Chicken: Actually the person who picked for me this month, also recommended Beauty: A Retelling of Beauty & the Beast. I thought you'd enjoy it too. I don't know if I have time to join you this month, but I'll try :)

I hope you find something on this list you'll like. If there are books you've already read just let me know and I'll replace it :)
Happy Reading!

Thanks again! "
Hi Elke!

1.Mad as a March hare:Fury by Anya Bast. Its about shapeshifters...but I have never read one about a cougar (the animal-not the older hot woman lol!) and a wolf!

5.Elite 8: The Perfect Play by Jaci Burton or The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Both will be on my TBR!
6.Nutty as a fruitcake: Intentions of the Earl by Rose Gordon. I don't see a lot of HR in your shelves. Or for a light and funny read One for the Money by Janet Evanovich.

8. Neither rhyme nor reason: Blood of the Wicked by Karina Cooper. This one looks really good! On my TBR now!

Hi Elke!
I'll also be reading the same book this month. :-)"
Really? Maybe we can use that as a buddy read!

Thanks, Penney! That's one of the reasons I didn't back out of running the challenge even though I was so busy. I felt I had too good an idea, LOL!

1. Mad as a March hare: Book with an original premise, a funky title or set in Canada
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (funky title)
2. Non Comp..."
Well, I wanted to read it, but my library does not have it nor do the book stores. It must be out of print or something. Bummer!
I've never heard of the genre Steampunk before!

1. Mad as a March Hare:
A Quick Bite - this book is set in Canada and one of my favorite series.
2. Non Compos Mentis:
Dead Witch Walking - this is about magic and on your TBR and another one of my favorites
Practice Makes Perfect - This is about law. It is funny and an easy read.
3. (Not So) Sweet 16:
Anyone But You - this was hard for me because I don't read many books with characters older then 30's. But I found one and it is a good one too.
4. The Lights are on but Nobody's Home:
Halo
Touch the Dark
5. Elite 8:
Simply Irresistible and It Had to Be You two great books.
6. Nutty as a Fruitcake:

The Passage - This book was very different from what I use to, but out of all the picks I think this one is the one you shuld pick.

Vampire Academy
Playing the Game
9. Buddy Read
The Lucky One - I want to go and see this movie but would like to read the book first if you are interested.

Let me know when ..."
Thanks! I should be able to start before the 10th, that sounds great!

You have always given me such great recs that I was a little nervous picking for you. I hope you find something below you like. You
1. Mad as a March hare
Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz.
Both books have definitely a funky premise. The first one is a sheep detective story (yes, sheep investigating a murder!) and the second one is Latin historical fiction mixed with sci-fi undertones.
2. Non Compos Mentis
The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima (magic) - Another book I've been meaning to read!
Monkeewrench by P.J. Tracy (police officers as main characters) - This is one of my favorite contemporary mystery series. The characters are just sooo good and human.
3. (Not So) Sweet 16
Conor's Way by Laura Lee Guhrke (pub. 1996) - This book was published a while back but it's really terrific, with one of the longest suffering heroes I've ever read about.
Mine to Possess by Nalini Singh (alpha male) - This is not my favorite but it opens up the overall story arc that it's still driving the series so I think it's an important read. Hopefully the heroine doesn't annoy you too much. :)
Drums Of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon (over 40) - Jamie, Jamie...he's still as awesome in his late 40s as he was in his 20s.
4. The lights are on, but nobody's home
The Darkness That Comes Before by R. Scott Bakker (fantasy)
The Space Between by Brenna Yovanoff (YA)
Never heard of either but they both look good...I'm adding them to my TBR right away!
5. Elite 8
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (popular book) - I see you like Classics so I thought you may want to try this out. I've been meaning to read it for a long time.
Squeeze Play by Kate Angell (sports) - Several of my friends have rated this series highly so I've been meaning to try it out.
6. Nutty as a fruitcake
A Prisoner of Birth by Jeffrey Archer (thriller) - This is a modern version, thriller style of The Count of Monte Cristo (which I saw you liked.) It's really good!
Beyond Heaving Bosoms: The Smart Bitches' Guide to Romance Novels by Sarah Wendell (funny) - I see you don't read much non fiction but this is really funny and anybody that reads romance can totally relate!
7. Final 4
Angelfall by Susan Ee (post-apocalyptic) - I loooved this book...among my favorites of the year.
A Perfect Blood by Kim Harrison (latest by favorite author) - I'm sure you've been looking forward to this one!
8. Neither rhyme nor reason:
The Novice by Trudi Canavan
Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
9. Buddy Read: Egg! 1st in Series
The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner
My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
Delirium by Lauren Oliver
I haven't read the first two and would like to but I'm not sure I can join in the buddy read. Let me know if you're interested though and I'll see if I can find the time. The last two (Daughter & Delirium) are books I already read but they are among my favorite books of the last 6 months. If we cannot do a buddy read, at least I can chat about these with you!
