It is quite easy when you raid the freebies on kindle Laura :) It's also a bit of an addiction. hehe"

Oh yeah! Those freebies certainly make it TBR climb very quickly..lol

I try to be careful with my Kindle TBR list...I think I'm going okay with it. I've only splurged a few times since owning my 2nd Kindle.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) If I had Kindle, my TBR would be humongous:) Thank goodness, I like 'real' books.

Lynne Stringer | 280 comments I try not to put things on my TBR list because it usually means I'll never read them.

K | 1143 comments I always get to mine eventually, even if it is years after I have purchased them.

Usually if a book stays on my TBR list for years then I delete it because I have forgotten why I put it on the list in the first place.

That is the same for me...And I also take it that I wasn't THAT interested in the book in the first place otherwise I'd already own it.

I love real books too Bette, but love my kindle for the convenience as well:)

I just had a sort of all my owned paper books....

I knew it was high, but here, now, unread and crying out for attention are 242 paper books that I own, plus 8 borrowed books as well!!!! I don't think I missed any;) And I am not going to count my owned, unread kindle books!!

message 412: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79989 comments Mod
No I am NOT going to do that Michael - not right now - I just don't want to know...but I guess as my TBR is over 900 and most of them are owned, it'd be safe to say I own more kindle than paper though;P

message 413: by Zoey (new)

Zoey (rozannen) | 1045 comments I have about 212 (give or take 1 or 2) unread books sitting on my bookshelf, so your just a bit in front of me there Brenda, but you definitely beat on the unread kindles, I only (HA only) have about 120 of them.
No I dont have a problem - MUCH!!!! :)

Doesnt matter, could have a lot worse of an addiction than book buying.

message 414: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79989 comments Mod
Oh dear Zoey..we're a worry aren't we! But you're right, this is an addiction I don't mind having;)

message 415: by Peter (new)

Peter Stone (sevensidedcube) I don't really use the TBR list on Goodreads, I just add books I'm considering in my Amazon's wishlist. There's about 45+ books in there, which I'm slowly buying and reading. Just wish I had more time. (To read, to write, to everything...except work.)

message 416: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) My TBR is getting pretty horrible; it's up above 750 at the moment. My reaction to that is always twofold; 1) excited that I have so many books I want to read and 2) nervous as to whether I will get thru them all:)

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) I'm calling it. This year, unless it isn't possible, my books read and my Aussie Readers and SFF Bookclub challenges are going to be exclusively books on my TBR list. In addition I am going to hold myself to 2 TBR adds a week to prevent it from exploding out of control any further.

My first book read this year, The Carpet Makers, is a book that wasn't on my TBR list. Off to a good start >.>

Suz | 4428 comments I'm attempting to cull a few off my tbr every time I go onto GR, but as I mostly use my iPhone, it's time consuming. And it's taking reading time away. Can't have everything though ;) I have probably culled 80 in the last week or two. Also considering opening my own thread asking Aussie Readers what they'd take off. I think it would be fun and I'd take no offence.

If it makes you feel any better Brenda my unread TBR list numbers in the thousands. In total I have approx 2790 books, just over 1500 in print and the rest digital, and add more every month! Probably a good half of that total are unread

message 428: by Lynxie (last edited Jan 07, 2015 10:43PM) (new)

Lynxie | 715 comments I'm sort of taking a leaf out of Liam's book. No 'buying' books this year.

From now till 31st December I will only obtain free copies of books, use gift vouchers purchased for me for birthdays/xmas, and review copies.

Add to that, that every reading challenge I do this year will be completely constructed of books I already own, I am hoping to have my TBR under 1300 by this time in 2016.

It will be a challenge, but I'm up for it.

That's a great idea Suzanne! If you get three or more ppl who suggest you give a particular book a miss you could consider removing it. I often think about this when I 'compare books' with someone and see they have marked a book I hated as to-read.

It would be fun to do but I bet for every person who tells you to dump a book another person will tell you you must read it at once because it is fantastic:)

message 434: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 1176 comments In another group, we had a suggestion thread for reading or dumping freebies - I found it useless especially after a favourite book was recommended for dumping - people's tastes are so diverse.

The best way is to find those friends who have a very similar reading style and dump those that they hated. LOL.

message 435: by Mary (new)

Mary (bookworm60) | 367 comments I've got my GR TBR list to under 300 but I'm moving house again so i am donating books to the library -including some of my TBR pile. I just can't take them. BUT that doesn't mean i don't still want to read them. Plus I've recently been reading books that have been on my TBR list for 10 years or more. And I've realized that I need TBR list attitude adjustment. What is the point of feeling anxious and guilty about the number of books i am interested in reading but not getting to? It just shows that there are heaps of potentially wonderful books in the world. Lucky me!

Regina My TBR list isn't actually too bad, I have around 24 on there.

I can't have too many, otherwise I get stressed and panic that I don't have enough time to read them all....

This group heightens my anxiety as so many books are brought to my attention and I'm like 'so many books, so little time, aaaarrrgghhh'.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) 891 currently on the TBR. Assuming I read nothing but TBR books this year, I'll probably have... 891 books on my TBR this time next year :/

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Okay in the midst of a cull on my TBR again. Starting off with 900 on the list, let's see how compressed I can get this.
