How large is your TBR list? Does it have a mind of its own?

I like to challenge myself. If I feel like my list is getting too long, I need to read more :D

Of course sleep is over rated Lynxie!! O__O!!

On the plus side, Brenda - I would imagine you would never need to look outside your TBR to fill your challenge lists!!
And I can't say I agree with sleep being over-rated - if I haven't slept well or enough, I don't function so well the next day - and that can include not taking pleasure in what I'm reading!! So skipping sleep to read more is a bit counter-productive for me! Of course, sometimes missing out on sleep due to reading is unavoidable (well, sort of) if you're in the middle of something that you just can't put down, or don't realise how the time is passing!
You're right there Kathryn! My TBR goes down quite well with the challenges which is wonderful, but it still seems to go up too!!!!!
And I was joking about the sleep thingy!!! lol I can't function on too little sleep for very long;)

Brenda wrote: "And I was joking about the sleep thingy!!! lol I can't function on too little sleep for very long;)":-) I truly wish sleep was unnecessary - just imagine how much more productive we'd be! And it IS less necessary for some people - some people manage on about 4 hours a night - unfortunately that's not me :-(
Wouldn't that be good! But no, I enjoy my time in bed, especially to relax at the end of the day with a good book and read for a few hours;) Then those times when I wake early and pick up the book again, and off I go!
I try to keep my TBR to 5 max. I read voraciously so 5 is a good number for me - just enough to make me feel secure that I always have something decent to read, but not so much that reading ever becomes a chore. I'd hate to think I /had/ to read. :(
I've got something near 800 on my TBR. Might have to stop finding new things and just cut that down a bit next year.

Or maybe you could have a clear out once a year of all the books you added more than a certain number of years ago e.g. remove all books you added more than 3 (or some other timeframe) years ago - if they make their way back onto your list at some point, well and good, but if not, you may not be that interested in reading them!!
Loving the comments on here. For awhile I pretty much stopped reading...after joining GR I can say that's fixed. I currently have just under 1400 on my TBR list. At the start I was putting the whole series on my list, now I tend to just add the first book...which means the list is prob triple the size
Sounds like a lot of us Renae!! I notice you are a new member too, welcome to the group. It's great to have you:) Would you like to head over here http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/3... and introduce yourself - the others would love to say hi as well:)

I have to ask this of the people with ginormous TBRs - do you think you'll ever get through them all?
A.C. wrote: "I have to ask this of the people with ginormous TBRs - do you think you'll ever get through them all?"Only if people stopped writing. I keep adding new books, it's a never-ending cycle.

Right, it's a boring day at work, I have nothing to do, time to clean up my TBR. 750 books at the moment, lets see if we can cut that down.

Absolutely, Brenda, I live on 4hrs sleep a night. All that wonderful extra time to read.O_O

lol - I think you have a lifetime project going there. :)
I just had a LITTLE cull....from 1017 down to 962! Some of them had been put there 2 years ago!!
Mine is down to 560 now. I don't even remember what half of these are, so I'm skimming through their descriptions and if something doesn't grab me or I don't recognise the title/author, I delete it.
My tbr is at 465 at the moment but I can't really cull it because most of them I own!I also have another good couple of hundred I own that I haven't bothered to add to it yet which makes things much worse.
I don't think I have a hope in hell of getting through them all before I die, especially when I just keep getting more and more!!

I know the feeling Michelle :) Mine is at 412 and increasing all the time.
I have no idea how I can have over 300 books that I physically own and haven't read yet... and there are still times when I don't have anything I want to read :P
My TBR is now officially out of control at over 500 books. Tried to clip it back but I seriously can't find any books to delete off it. Looks like I'm gonna have to read them all:P
Oh dear, Bette! Are they all ones you own? I had a little trim of my TBR recently and most of the ones I couldn't lay my hands on with relative ease (because there are no copies in either of my local library systems) were the first to go...
I went through my TBR when I got on here to see which books I read while I wasn't updating the site. I got to add in a few completed books but didn't manage to make a huge difference because I kept adding more books to read...LOLThe cycle will never end! Hahaha
Excluding all the Babysitters Club books, it's probably about 480ish.
This threads inspired me to reduce my TBR ... It was 331 now down to 244

I suspect not long ... Surprise , surprise lol

I just had a ruthless cull! For the last few hours I have been going through my TBR which stood at 1014! I have deleted almost ALL on my wish-list, so that the remainder would be around 95% of the books I own (there are only 56 left on my wish-list now).. my TBR total is now 778! So with the amount I own, getting rid of 226 that I thought I might like to read one day, was quite ok...lol

Oh dear! I went crazy when I first found NetGalley, but found I had to cut myself down or I'd go crazy!
