You and Your Books!

How large is your TBR list? Does it have a mind of its own?
I had a seizure and landed on my face on the footpath. I was on my way to the shop. The two people who were walking past called the ambulance.
Oh wow! That's awful! So good you had some helpful people nearby. You take care, and get better quickly...enjoy reducing your TBR while you can;)
I have a rapidly growing Mt. TBR. It doesn't matter how many books I read, I've always seems like I've got more unread stuff waiting. It's not so bad with my kindle - you can easily hide all the books. Although all the free books don't help! I did a quick count. I've got 94 books on my iBooks app; 375 books on my kindle - I've only read 120 so that's 349 ebook books on Mt. TBR. But I can't go past a book store without having a look and it doesn't help that most of the authors I love write series rather than standalone books. I'm not going to count actual books - there are too many!! But I'd have a few hundred unread :( I wish I could take a year off to catch up on my reading.

I think we are all a bit like that! I'll have to live to at least 150 to read all of mine;)

Uh my TBR is like 600 I think? And working at a library, it grows by an average of like 4 books every shift :P
You sure are going to be busy Lynxie with that many to read. And I have a feeling it will get bigger than 1750 :) Enjoy and good luck
It's currently at 1710, I still have 40-odd left to go on my reading challenge this year so if I don't add any more I should get it below 1700 for the first time in ages!It is a neverending battle :) a good one though.
Mine is also growing and growing...! It's just under 200 at the moment - and I'm trying not to add to it any faster than I'm reading them, but it's hard!!I often forget what made me add a book to my list - I wish the GR app let you type private comments about books because I could keep track that way. I guess I could have different shelves for different recommendations, but I think I'd end up with lots and lots of shelves, some with only a few books on them. Does forgetting why you wanted to read a book annoy anyone else? And if so, how do you manage it?
Kathryn, it annoys me too, which is why I have a large number of shelves. You can add private notes in the advanced view when reviewing the book, but that might not be useful before you've read the book.
No, and I know I can do it on the computer, but don't seem to be able to get to it on the app... Nor can I view private comments on the app.
I haven't tried it on the app. I don't use it. I found it too glitchy on the iPhone. I just use the website instead on the iPhone. It's tiny, but it works :)
Having discovered lists, recommendations, friends lists, randoms lists..... I have decided:Control is most needed while driving or sneezing
Reading/Books - finally, a habit I don't have to give up!
My TBR is at a modest 150 and I no longer fret at it growing.
I have 111 on myTBR list......the trouble with good reads (& by trouble I mean LOVE) is that everytime I pop in to see a discussion or something, I end up finding at least 2 more books to add to my list! I have my shelves as authors or series at the moment, but when adding to my TBR list if I don't have the book yet, it also goes on my wish list. A friend told me that it's too much work to maintain lol, I don't agree! I do look forward to an update for the app though, I cant insert a link to the book I'm talking about, which would be handy!
My TBR took a pretty nasty blow today! I cleared out 100 books that I just won't get around to, so it's now down to a still rather unruly 1608.

My list is still growing on the 2nd of June it was 148 it's now at 234. And I'm sure by this time next month it will have doubled again.
But I do love finding new books and authors :)

It's scary how fast it grows isn't it Sharon!

It sure is Brenda :)
Of course if I stayed off this site that would help. But not likely to happen ;)
315 is this morning's current total. It's always growing as I see what great books others in this group are reading. And of course, from Goodreads Recommendation Page.
670 to-read at the moment. I think I might have to make my challenge for next year "Get that number down"..
Liam wrote: "670 to-read at the moment. I think I might have to make my challenge for next year "Get that number down".."Yes I think so you will Liam. Other wise it will be as big as Brenda's :)
Liam wrote: "670 to-read at the moment. I think I might have to make my challenge for next year "Get that number down".."omg! And I thought mine was big. You're going to be 'buried' in books at home as well as work.

The trouble with books is it takes seconds to add to one's TBR but hours/days to subtract because subtracting mostly involves reading the book. So unless I stop buying altogether, it's going to keep expanding, isn't it? I have a system of reading: series alternated with literature, non-fiction, Aussie, etc and have the books piled up on the TBR bookcase in that order but then books that arrive at the library or in the mail might well jump the queue.....I couldn't begin to count the mount, it would take up valuable reading time!
Wow, mine is like less than a 100. I try to use my library instead of buying to save money. I got rid of a lot of books that I never bothered to read. I had 3 66 qt containers full of the books that I sold to a used book store.
The internet is definitely making the situation worse! You think you’ll look at one book, and the next thing you know you’ve added ten to your TBR shelf!I can't keep up with all my books. I just can't anymore. Now that I'm sent so many review copies from publishers I keep discovering I've missed release dates by weeks or months because I forgot - or didn't have time - to read the things!
The other day I read a book I actually bought for myself. It was the first one of its kind in a long time!
I've just spring cleaned my TBR. Taken out books I cannot access through the library or ones I really don't think I'll like enough to buy. I've cut it down from about 315 to around 240. Although I have a sneaking suspicion it will grow again pretty quickly:)

I blame the awesomeness that is GoodReads and the freebies on Amazon! My TBR list is back over 1600 now, but only just...

And it is really scary, originally they thought I broke the bony part around my eye (my eye socket) because it was so bruised and swollen. But when they did a CT scan I hadn't broken any bones. The swelling has gone right down and it has only been 4 days since I was discharged. Still alot of bruising. But it looks worse than it is. I went to see an optometrist just in case on Wednesday. If my eye is still very blood shot next week then I have to go back. Not sure what they will do though.
