I've Started So I'll Finish

1st January to 31st December 2012

This is a year long challenge, for those of us that need to finish some series - or get up to date!

Looking at my list of series on FictFact, I was struck by the sheer number of series that i've started. I want to get some of these finished, or at least get up to date to the current release. So I wondered if anyone was interested in joining me?

The Rules
* There has to be at least 2 books that you need to read to get up to date/finish the series.
* If you're getting up to the current release in a series, then it should be current as at 30th November (that way if it has a book coming out in December it's your call whether or not to include it).

If cost or availability is a problem, then just get as far as you can.

You can include the short stories/novellas between books if you wish.

Audiobooks and re-reads are fine (as long as you read it properly - no skimming.

Add series as you go along if you want to.

Go for 5, 10, 15, 20+ series or 15, 20, 25, 30+ books

So I have a question.

I'm reading a published "series" that has 7 books. I put series in quotation marks because the author has them as two separate series in her website. The thing is that the last book in both series is the same one so in most places the series is combined as one, even though books #1 & #2 of series #2, don't have anything to do with the 4 books of series #1.

Now the famous last book is really hard to find (one of those that sells for $45 at Amazon). Could I just read the books that I can find and leave it at that? (The rest of the series I have yet to read is available at my library.) I'm really not up to paying that amount of money for an old regency.

It's the Dark Angel+Ideal Wife series by Mary Balogh. So here's the breakdown of the books according to the author's website:

Dark Angel Series
Dark Angel
Lord Carew's Bride
The Famous Heroine
The Plumed Bonnet

Ideal Wife Series
The Ideal Wife
A Precious Jewel

Then, the last book in both series is Dark Angel #5 and Ideal Wife #3: A Christmas Bride

But I guess to simplify matters, GR and Fict Fact has the Ideal Wife books as just continuation of the Dark Angel series as #5 and #6 and then Christmas Bride as #7.

$45, that's a lot for a book!!!

I'd say get as far as you can. I almost amended this last night when I saw how much the new Sookie hardback was going to be £14 is a lot for me.

The funny thing is that they are asking $45 for a small regency and it's not even new (no matter what they say...the book hasn't been reprinted in who knows how long so I know it can't be new.)

The author has been re-printing her old backlist so I may get my hands on the book some day but I'm not sure it will happen this year. :)

Great idea Charlotte! I started doing that already since last year after a similar shock while perusing my FictFact list. I've got a lot of series with only one book left to finish and I think I'll focus on those first, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to join you.
