Audrey's Picture Books | 28 comments Please remove the following books from this list:

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

#54 Tsunami! By Kimiko Kajikawa is fiction
#288 Dream Something Big appears to be historical fiction.
#372 The Upside Down Turn Around Alphabet is a grey area. Alphabet books and other preschool skill concept books are typically not put in the nonfiction category, unless their primary purpose is to provide information about something else (as in the case of Jerry Pallotta's many animal books that are written in an alphabet book format). Personally, I'd say that alphabet books don't fit the intent of the list.

Thanks!

Audrey's Picture Books | 28 comments Emily wrote: "If the description should be changed to something else for more clarity we can certainly do that."

I just saw this reply, after months.... Yes, can we do that with this list:

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/5...

Sorry for the long lapse of time. To refresh your memory after MONTHS, the issue is that the instructions on the list are vague, asking for books with less than 10,000 votes, but saying they will be removed if they have more than 40,000. Can we change it to removal above the stated list goal of 10,000 ratings? Sticking with a 40,000 cut-off has allowed undeniably well-known books like The Story of Ping and The Adventures of Pippi Longstocking to rise to the top of a list that was explicitly created to honor obscure books.

[This was originally brought up in posts 546, 547, and 548.]

message 553: by Audrey's Picture Books (last edited May 19, 2019 08:31PM) (new)

Audrey's Picture Books | 28 comments While we're at it, can we clarify the issue of publication date? The list creator asked for "books that really are classics," established the inconsistently recent cut-off of 5 years ago, then stated that books from after 2010 would be removed. The list was created several years ago, and 2010 is now 9 years in the past. If the list creator's working definition of "classic" is a book that's more than 5 years old, then the cut-off date should surely move forward as time elapses. In that case, it would make the most sense to remove the specific date and leave it at "Books should be older than five years." As I said, I think this is still inconsistent (How can something less than 10 years old be a classic?), but it strikes me as the most consistent way to reconcile everything to the stated intentions of the list. Thoughts?

Face It doesn't belong because (view spoiler).

Emily | 17470 comments #552 Got it, thanks!

#555-7 Audrey, I updated the description:
Lesser known or forgotten children's books that are potential classics. Books should be older than five years.

Books should have less than 10,000 ratings. Books with more than 10,000 ratings will be removed.
---
I agree that is more in line with the point of the list. I will work on removing the books that don't apply. I think by "really are classics" was meant to say, "books we think should be considered classic because they are so good." I changed it to say "potential classics" to clarify that. If you think of a different way to word it, just let me know!

Leah (flying_monkeys) | 45 comments On the Can't Wait Books of 2019 list https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1... please remove the following which have 2020 (or later) publication dates.

Chain of Gold (The Last Hours #1) by Cassandra Clare currently on page 1 at #3 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City #1) by Sarah J. Maas currently on page 1 at #4 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...

Untitled (Six of Crows #3) by Leigh Bardugo currently on page 1 at #17 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4... - no publication date and the author and her publisher have both commented that it will be years until its release. Per list description, books must have at least a set year of release to be included on this Can't Wait list.

Deathless Divide by Justina Ireland currently on page 3 at #281 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

Ms. Woc Reader | 34 comments Can you please remove Broken Places (A Chicago Mystery #1) #31 from the list of black cozy mysteries. It's not a cozy mystery it's a thriller with graphic violence.

Same with Trail of Echoes which is #33 and Skies of Ash #5

Emily | 17470 comments #562 Looks like someone did this in the list's discussion thread instead

#563 done
#564 You may want to change the description to read something like "releasing for the first time" or "first printings only." "2019 releases" could imply "anything being released."

message 562: by Audrey's Picture Books (last edited Jun 11, 2019 09:28PM) (new)

Audrey's Picture Books | 28 comments Could you remove #158 President Taft is Stuck in the Bath from this list? https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Reason: not nonfiction

From the back matter : "No newspapers or diaries confirm that Taft ever lodged himself in the White House tub. So, did President Taft actually get stuck in the bath? Maybe. Maybe not. But more than a century later, this is the story we're still telling. And to people like me, that's all that matters."

The story is clearly being told more as a legend than as history.

Audrey's Picture Books | 28 comments Also, #108 At the Same Moment, Around the World is educational fiction, not nonfiction. Given the list's stated request not to add historical fiction, the purpose of the list seems to be to collect works that are straight nonfiction.

Covers by Charlie Bowater

Skyward (currently #8 on the list) is the correct book,

Can someone help remove my books from the following list? https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

My three angel paranormal books aren't the right genre for this list:
#17 Claimed By Power
#20 Ruined By Power
#22 Awakened By Power

And my other books are not erotica but romance:
All the Myth of Omega books

It seems that the creator just went and clicked everything in my catalogue without looking at it.

Thanks to anyone that can help.

Maraud3r | 3 comments Could someone PLEASE have a look at this list?https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

There is a whole host of books being added that either have nothing at all to do with the list such as "Glittering World" or outright go against the very description of the list. Helles Belles, Alternate Places, Good Intentions and Purgatory Wars all have graphic cheating/cuckoldry and infidelity for example.

Can someone remove Paladin of Souls here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

It is book 2 in a series which is against the list rules.

There are a couple of titles which are possibly YA too, Sabriel and Poison Study?

Why can't list creators delete books from their lists? 5/6 books that weren't added by me were off-topic.

Can someone please delete:

The Man Who Knew Infinity: A Life of the Genius Ramanujan

Prime Obsession: Bernhard Riemann and the Greatest Unsolved Problem in Mathematics

The Mystery of the Aleph: Mathematics, the Kabbalah, and the Search for Infinity

Incompleteness: The Proof and Paradox of Kurt Gödel

The Man Who Loved Only Numbers: The Story of Paul Erdős and the Search for Mathematical Truth

message 576: by Emily (new)

Emily | 17470 comments #578 and 579 I have removed those books.

I imagine that list creators cannot remove books because some people may remove books that *do* belong on the list but they just didn't want them there. At any rate, I've removed the ones you listed.

Leonhard Euler by Emil A. Fellmann

So, I created this list just 24 hours ago and it was meant to be personal (said so in the tags but people didn't notice, my bad) but people have started to add more books and I'd like to have some help and have them removed.

This is the list I made: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

And these are the books I want removed:

The Delusion: We All Have Our Demons

The Occupied

The Gospel & Abortion

A Life That Matters: The Legacy of Terri Schiavo -- A Lesson for Us All

Sacred Sex

Thanks in advance!

I would recommend that you make a shelf for these books if you find people keep adding to the list. We will not be able to continue removing books from it. People may think it is a list for any book they found great in 2018, even if the list is labeled personal in the description. The lists are meant for everyone to add to them.

While not having been published yet, it is shelved as both YA and romance, and the first book in the series as YA (about 780), romance (about 110) and contemporary (12).

Omer (classicsreader) | 1 comments I don't know why, as the creator of the list, can't remove some books. For this reason I don't want to make a list.
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Someone apparently added the book on #1 (Mr Either/Or), which was voted by 6 people and I have no idea about its author, nor if it is an epic poem. I don't also know about #10 (Plutonic Sonnets) and #13 (The Prophet) is not an epic/long narrative poem.

List:

message 594: by Emily (new)

Emily | 17470 comments #593 Divena wrote: "This list is for contemporary YA Asian romances."

While the primary nature of the book is not romance, it seems to be a side plot in the other books. I don't know that we have enough evidence about the plot to remove it at this time.

#594 Omer wrote: "Someone apparently added the book on #1 (Mr Either/Or), which was voted by 6 people and I have no idea about its author, nor if it is an epic poem. I don't also know about #10 (Plutonic Sonnets) and #13 (The Prophet) is not an epic/long narrative poem."

After looking at Mr. Either/Or here and on Amazon, it appears to fit the list. I removed Platonic Sonnets and The Prophet.

Audrey's Picture Books | 28 comments Please remove the following books from this list:
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/8...

Reason: They are juvenile or YA fiction, and therefore do not fit the criteria for the list.

#8 Asashin
#10 Little White Duck
#13 American Born Chinese
#14 Allergic to Girls, School, and Other Scary Things
#19 The Gift of the Fox
#21 The Nameless City
#24 Bronze and Sunflower
#51 Hong Kong for Kids (it's a travel guide)
#63 Katie Woo and Friends
#104 The Odyssey of a Manchurian
#108 All About China
#121 Hong Kong for Kids: A Parent's Guide
#123 Tales About China and the Chinese
#125 China (Kaleidoscope Kids)
#126 What was it Like, Mr. Emperor?
#128 Not For Parents China
#131 Tasty Baby Belly Buttons (a Japanese, not a Chinese, story)
#133 You Wouldn't Want to Work on the Great Wall of China!
#148 The Chinese Egg
#158 Chinese Cinderella

Grey Area: They're definitely not books for pre-readers or early readers, as specified in the list description. They appear to be simple instructional texts for grade school age children.

#87 My First Book of Chinese Calligraphy.
#119 My Little Book of Chinese Words

Another Grey Area: There are several collections of folk tales. I don't personally tend to think of these as picture books, though they can be told orally to picture book age children.

#43 Auntie Tigress
#73 Chinese Children's Favorite Stories
#115 [Chinese title]: Fables and Fairy Tales from Ancient China
#117 Spitting on Ghosts
#134 Chinese Fairy Tales
#149 Shen of the Sea
