Hi Selena and Jean. Welcome to the group! I hope you'll find some new cozies to love and that you'll share your favorites with us.

Tisha (tishab) | 1 comments My name is Tisha and I'm a 43 year old housewife. Overall, I enjoy a large variety of genres, but my favorites are: cozy mysteries, paranormal and dark romance, horror, erotica, manga and graphic novels.

I also enjoy watching anime, mystery dramas, medical dramas, Asian dramas, British dramas and comedies and all kinds of movies...most especially horror...I tend to watch any ghost/haunting horrors I can get my hands on! I also enjoy computer and console gaming. My husband and I are both addicted to watching other gamers on YouTube and Twitch!!

My hobbies other than reading include: on-line surfing, hanging with friends, visiting the beach, and being with my family. I am an animal lover, currently I have a Pomeranian (Remy) and a chihuahua (Milo).

I am always looking for friends and reading recommendations, so feel free to friend me, and it's great to meet you! :)

Welcome to the group Tisha. You must keep busy with all the activities you list. You won't find horror, paranormal or other genres here but we are great for cozy recommendations.

Welcome Tisha! I hope you'll find some new cozies here. Have you read Ernest Cline's books, Ready Player One and Armada?

Janice Peacock (janicepeacock) | 3 comments Hi everyone! My name's Janice and I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm the author of the Glass Bead Mystery Series. I've been quietly lurking here for a while, but Jaxnsmom encouraged me to introduce myself!

I love reading cozy mysteries, but have been reading a lot of non-fiction books lately while actively writing the books in my series. (It's best if I don't have too many plots swirling around in my brain at once.)

Welcome to the group Tammie. Are you new to cozy mysteries?

message 1061: by Robert (new)

Robert (rdowens) I'm Bob from New Jersey. I don't think I have ever read a cozy mystery previously. It's definitely not a term I heard of before this morning.

I am in a reading position most I encounter here at GR are not: I am caught up. Yup, I have read everything I have. So, I am bouncing around reading whatever floats my boat at the moment.

Up early today, I decided to check out the book clubs here at GR. I always think being in an online book club would be fun, but I never do it. I poked around and finally decided this would be a good niche to settle into for 2016. You folks seem like an affable group. So, here I am!

I look forward to the discussion.

Welcome to the group Bob.

Cozy mysteries are also referred to as traditional mysteries. The focus is on the characters and the puzzle (who did it). The sleuth is often an amateur (not in law enforcement). The protagonist discovers the body but there is minimal violence - no blood and gore. Most of the books are part of on-going series where developments in the MC's personal life are part of the story along with the mystery itself.

Thank you. I associate these with the television show "Murder She Wrote". It sounds like all the things you mentioned and that I have read fit that genre.

I'm enjoying the one book I am reading right now. Thanks!

Just checking here and see that my last posts aren't showing up. I've been having some minor trouble with GR so I guess I'll have to go see if anything else is missing.

Anyway, welcome to the group, Janice, Tammie, and Bob! I hope you'll find lots of great new books and authors.

message 1065: by Angela (new)

Angela (angelic1ang) Hello! My name is Angela and I am from Michigan. I have enjoyed reading and absorbing as many books as I could get my hands on since junior high. I love a good mystery but I do not like gory details or extended smut scenes. I guess I am a bit prudish in that sense. My favorite books always have a female lead with well developed agency.

Hi Angela. I don't think it sounds prudish, there's romance and there's smut. Generally, I don't like romance to take over in cozies, I like when there's tension, but I want the mystery to be the predominate story.

Tina McCright (tinamccright) | 32 comments HI Angela! I'm with you on those gory details and extended smut scenes, although my good friends do write those smut scenes. :)

Beth | 206 comments A lot of new members have joined the group since I last checked this thread! Here's a warm welcome to Angela, Bob, Tammie, Janice, Tisha, Jean, and Salena. Salena, I, too, live in Colorado--Breckenridge to be exact. Being a mystery author, I know a lot of other Colorado mystery authors. If you'd like a list of recommended local authors to read, send a private message to my Goodreads page, and I'll give you a list of names.

Amy (amy_b) | 1 comments Hello! My name is Amy, and I am from Wisconsin. I stumbled upon this group while reading the first Aurora Teagarden mystery.

I am an avid reader, which comes in handy as I teach reading to middle schoolers. A lot of the books I have bedn reading lately are of the young adult genres, but I can't completely give up my cozy mysteries!

And this group's Book of the Month selection (for January)should be up shortly. Or go over to 2016 Books and Theme Selectors. Have fun!

Welcome Amy! Yes, you have to have a balance in reading. GR has brought me back to cozies, they used to be all I read but I burned out. Now I mix it up while being able to love cozies again.

message 1074: by Helen (new)

Helen (helennn) | 1020 comments Hello everyone, I've been lurking here for a while. My name is Helen, and I live in Lismore, just inland from Byron Bay in Australia.
Books are harder to get here, and more expensive, but in the days of ebooks and online bookstores I am finding this group has opened my eyes to many authors and titles I would otherwise have missed. Up till now, I had been finding most of my cozys at a second hand bookshop that imports them from the USA.
I have joined a couple of monthly challenges, and have just ordered the January 2016 books.

Welcome Helen. I've heard how expensive books are in Australia - thank goodness there are more options now. I love your giraffe!

Hello Cathy. I got back into cozies a few years ago and there are so many more to choose from now, but I'm glad to see some old favorites still around. I'm down the road from you in Charleston.

Hi Karen. Your cats look very comfy. One of my dogs has her own loveseat that she loves to stretch out on. Check out our 'What Cozy are You Reading' topic and see if there are any that catch your interest.

LOL! The biggest risk of this habit is literally being Buried in a Book.

Welcome to the group Marie. Have fun exploring the site. If you have lots of series to read, check out our monthly Serial Reader Challenge.

My name is Emma and I devour about two or three mysteries a week. My favorites are cozies and I especially enjoy books which are part of a series. I just adore Donna Andrews. In the last weeks I read everything by Sofie Kelly and Jenn McKinlay, so right now I have to get back to "Copy Cap Murder" - bye for now!

Welcome Sarah. The group bookshelf has cozies by theme - it's a starting point, not a complete list.

If you scroll down the main discussion page, you'll find a folder where authors can post information about their mysteries.

Karen, since you asked for friend requests, I sent you one. Marie, I'm sorry to say that I think your TBR list is going to grow quite a lot as a member of this group, but that's really not a bad thing, is it? ;-)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 14 comments Hi everyone, I'm Agnieszka. I'm just loving reading and there is not much I don't like (horror, paranormal, hard-core fantasy and Sci-Fi) but other than that I read it if I'm in the mood. Usually I'm alway in the mood for books that are fun and if there is some romance and or suspense/mystery I'm feeling like in heaven. Most days I prefer more the cozy suspense and mystery but I can also deal with the more thrilling stuff too :-)

message 1097: by Powder River Rose (last edited Jan 16, 2016 10:14PM) (new)

Powder River Rose (powderriverrose) Hello everyone I am Rose. I live on the beautiful Oregon coast where we are currently experiencing stormy weather, dangerously high surfs, possibly a bit of flooding and lots of the wet stuff ….all in all a pleasant January day. This morning when the thunder hit the "evil twins" lost their usual bravado at their "window to the world" and came running to join me in the studio.

I only read with audiobooks (unabridged versions only) as I just don’t have time to sit down with the written word; doing so has increased my reading from about one book a year to up to and over 100 books each year. Lovin’ it!

The only drawback at times is that I am not always able to find BOMs for some groups, especially if it's newly published. However the popularity of audio is increasing and authors are recognizing this very important format for telling their stories.

I've recently finished a great cozy mystery which you might also like to read/listen to. THE BALI MYSTERY Amelia Moore Detective Series by Linda Weaver Clarke and narrator Diane Lehman is easy on the ears and a great mystery voice.

Looking forward to joining in the discussions.

Tina, thank you. I make victorian clothing and all the trappings a woman could wish for as well as old west garments so when I found this lovely drawing it just called to me. I've tried to change it several times but when I do I forget where my posts are..hehehe It's the BIG hat that tells me where I am.

I haven't read any historical fiction in about 6 months but I'm looking forward to Paris by Edward Rutherfurd Paris this year. Anything by Rutherford is fabulous. I've committed to several challenges this year in the classics arena, but I always leave room for other genres. In fact I'll be reviewing a new cozy in about a week and I hope you will read that review when it comes out and see if the book peaks your interest. Please feel free to check out my reviews. Sometimes they are sparse but those are generally my personal choice/challenge books. Books offered for review can be rather lengthy.

Enjoy the week ahead.
