Richard W | 3 comments We hello all-this is my first post on this site and I must tell u all a little about me before I write my comment on this.

To start I'm a 44 year old male, and I have been a reader all my life. I read 375 words a min. with 85% percent compertion (but I can't spell lol). I have over 500 books on the vampire subject alone and I have read them all. Well saying all that to say this.

I LOVE ALL THE TWLIGHT BOOKS-THE FIRST ONE AS MUCH AS THE LAST.

message 803: by Richard (new)

Richard W | 3 comments To tell you how much I love these books I'm 1/2 thru the series for the 3rd time in the last 6 months and a soon as I finish New Moon I started Twight with in 1 hour.

There so much I don't what to bore you

message 806: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Anne Rice! Another fan, at last. I worship the woman's vampire chronicles.

message 807: by David (new)

David (primemover) Twilight is badly written, and simply scucks for oh so many reasons.

message 808: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Well, for teenage fiction or 'YA' as you Americans call it, Twilight is average.

message 809: by [deleted user] (new)

ummm for one, Twilight has strong characters and a steady plot. It gives every girl a reason to fantasize and keeps you reading so whats not to like? Twilight is awsome!

message 810: by jessi (new)

jessi (infinitevantage) | 437 comments Strong characters? Bella is not strong in any sense of the word. And a more accurate assessment would be that it encourages every girl to act like a shallow moron who only worries obsessively over hot dudes (even stalker-ish ones who are 100+ years old).

Heck yes! That's hilarious and he's so right. Bella is just an annoying whiny cougar. Ed is over one-hundred!

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 222 comments I am in love with Dan. XD

message 815: by Amber (new)

Amber (iceapple95) | 79 comments In fact, have any of you watched New Moon? Probably, anyway my friends and I watched it the day it came out and were cracking up the entire time. YOu know the sparks notes 'I wannna touch your face so badd!' from Ed? A creepy old guy is touching her face! We cracked up the entire time.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 222 comments Yes, twice. (two groups of Twi-obsessed friends)

It wasn't as bad as I expected. I got to be the only on in the theatre fangirling after Jamie Campbell Bower (I'm in love with his voice!).

I kept remembering the bit about Marcus's 'power' of noticing relationships.

message 817: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments I liked it. To be honest, I think it's become 'uncool' to like anything Twilight, and half the people who criticise it have never even read it. They just...bag it to be 'cool'.

And a woman is a couger when she prays on YOUNGER men, not OLDER.

jessi (infinitevantage) | 437 comments Pssh, I tried to like those books. I really did. I can't help that the characters were awful, that there were plot holes, that the writing was mediocre......

message 824: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Yah, it's not everyone's cup of tea. It's just the people who haven't even given it a chance and hate on it that piss me off.

message 825: by [deleted user] (new)

Plus, it's just a nice story that has the theme of 'true love will prevail.' Who doesn't like that?

message 826: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Universally satisfying. (or nauseating...)

Speaking of unhappy endings, I saw New Moon, yes I did, for the lulz, it was so fun to make fun of Edward the entire time. Besides that, he's a creeper stalker weirdo, and she gets married to him, not Jacob, so that's a very unhappy ending indeed.

message 829: by Michael (new)

Michael Well, she shouldn't get with Jacob, though...he's only in love with her for her ovaries.

A lot of stories do the "true love" thing much better than Twilight...calling it true love when the girl can't decide who she's in love with (the tall dead guy or the hunky bipolar dude), that just doesn't WORK for me as a "true love" kinda thing.

It's more like the average lame teenage relationship, only it's not plausible as one of those because the teenage boy is hundreds of years old. Also unplausible: the boy (i.e. old man) is the one who wants to hold off on the sex. I'm still not buying that part, either.

Well now you just sound ignorant. He won't have sex with her because he might hurt her. Just like he can't really kiss her intimately.

Read the books before you pass judgment...

Seriously. I hate it when people say "This and this and this is so STUPID." When all of those things are completely explained if they just paid attention.

And to the people who go see it to make fun of it: Get a life. Not that the two series are comparable, but I don't like Harry Potter, I think it's a bit boring. But do I go see the movies to make fun of them? No. That would be idiotic. You go see Twilight because you want to go see it.

Well it's not that. It's just, if he loses control or concentration for a bit he could get carried away. And sex is a good way to get carried away. SO YEAH.

message 849: by Michael (new)

Michael *SPOILER ALERT*

Lauren, I think it's in book four when Jacob finds out that he was imprinting on Bella's daughter all along, and hadn't really been in love with Bella.

That said, J and Lorna, I haven't read the whole series, just Twilight, so I'm sure plenty is explained later that hasn't come out yet by the end of book one. I know a lot of the other stuff that happens because my wife read the whole series and told me about it as she went along. But, the part of my argument you're responding to ("Also unplausible: the boy (i.e. old man) is the one who wants to hold off on the sex. I'm still not buying that part, either.") was supposed to be funny. It's debatable how funny it was, but anyway, it wasn't the bulk of my argument.

I was simply arguing that Bella and Edward do the break-up/make-up thing a bit much if this is an example of "true love will prevail." Usually, true love has to overcome outside forces. In the Twilight series, it sounds like a lot of the time, they're fighting with each other, or Bella can't make up her mind who she wants to be with. I don't see how those particular plotlines say anything about "true love" prevailing.

And J, you are reading a DEBATE forum with the topic being whether Twilight is good or not. Not everyone who goes to see New Moon is going to think the series is awesome; everybody is allowed to watch it. And those of us who think it's not all that special are allowed to contribute in the debate...That's kind of what makes the debate a debate.

message 850: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Michael, they only break-up and make-up once...in New Moon.

A DEBATE forum, I am aware. Like in any other DEBATE, I simply want people to do the research before blabbering about something they haven't actually read :)
