Lorna | 1273 comments I like it. Nothing wrong with manipulative bastards. It's the people who they manipulate who are stupid! But I like all the characters (except Alice).

message 702: by Niki (new)

Niki Why don't you like Alice? She was one of the only ones I could stand!

message 703: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments She's...just...so...annoying! Bounding around everywhere, acting cute, kissing Edward's arse, forcing Bella to be her doll, forcing her to do the party thing. And if she doesn't get her way, she sulks till she does!

message 704: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizgore) | 3163 comments true she is a sulker

message 705: by Niki (new)

Niki I thought she was kind of funny, for those exact reasons. I liked Carlisle the best, though.

message 706: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Yeah, me too. And Jessica! She's hysterical!

message 707: by Niki (new)

Niki She's such a ness though.

message 708: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments ...ness?

message 709: by Niki (new)

Niki Oh, sorry. It's a word my friends and i use to describe someone who is really difficult and hard to get along with. It must have slipped out. Ooops

message 710: by Jeny (new)

Jeny (iluvgymnastics15) twilight was ok, eclipse was boring, breaking dawn was kinda good, but new moon was THE WORST! In that book, both edward & bella make the worst decisions and they're also very pathetic.

message 711: by Sheeky (new)

Sheeky (sheekster) Davis wrote: "Fuck those books. They aren't art, they're bullshit. "

We agree on something!

I liked new moon - after twilight its my fave - but I agree that eclipse was BORING!

message 713: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizgore) | 3163 comments i was PISSED off the whole book. (eclipse that is)

message 714: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Me too! I mean, NOTHING happened!

message 715: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizgore) | 3163 comments bella with jacob. i was like dumbass you already have edward. the book was toooo long for the events that happened.

message 716: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll admit that I was caught up in Twilight (actually before the craze hit) but now I think that it's a waste of time. I read a book that was published before twilight with several of the exact same ideas, and phrases. I think that Stephanie Meyer is a good writer but that her ideas are unoriginal and that she doesn't follow the same values in her books as she represents as an LDS writer.

message 717: by Davis (last edited Jul 23, 2009 07:50PM) (new)

Davis (davismattek) | 3837 comments She is bullshit, and her being Mormon just makes her a worse human being.

message 718: by [deleted user] (new)

Is it just her being mormon, or that she doesn't act mormon?

message 719: by Davis (new)

Davis (davismattek) | 3837 comments Her being Mormon. One of the most backward branches of Christianity (which is backwards enough on it’s own)

message 720: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey, I believe in all the principles of mormonism right down to Joseph Smith seeing God and Jesus Christ.

message 721: by Davis (new)

Davis (davismattek) | 3837 comments Wow. I feel so sorry for people like you.

message 722: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 23, 2009 07:56PM) (new)

I feel sorry for people like you, who keep denying it

message 723: by Davis (new)

Davis (davismattek) | 3837 comments You really believe in The Book Of Mormon? A book so full of lies and fallacy that most Christians regard you as a cult? That all of society looks down on you as ignorant buffoons? Yeah, right.

message 724: by Jayda (new)

Jayda All religion are cults, by definition.

And not all society looks at us that way.

message 725: by Davis (new)

Davis (davismattek) | 3837 comments We've had this talk, Jayda. Mormonism is not a legit religion, it's so not even plausible, it's a tool for ultra-conservatives.

message 726: by Jayda (new)

Jayda I don't see why it's not a legit religion. And we haven't had this talk before.

message 727: by Davis (new)

Davis (davismattek) | 3837 comments The reason I personally think it's so much bullshit is that essentially, it's just these super neo-con's way of advocating their harmful policies. Joseph Smith was, most scientists believe, a schizophrenic, with grandiose visions, thinking he saw/talked to God.

message 728: by Davis (new)

Davis (davismattek) | 3837 comments 1. Linguistics. Why, if the American Indians were descended from Lehi, was there such diversity in their languages, and why were there no vestiges of Hebrew in any of them?
2. Why does the Book of Mormon say that Lehi found horses when he arrived in America? The horse did not exist in the Americas until the Spaniards brought them over in the sixteenth century.
3. Why was Nephi stated to have a bow of steel? Jews did not have steel at that time, and no iron was smelted in the Americas until the Spanish colonization.
4. Why does the Book of Mormon mention “swords and cimeters” when scimitars (the current spelling) did not come about until the rise of Islam after 500 A.D.?
5. Why does the Book of Mormon mention silk, when silk did not exist in the Americas at that time?

Answer those please.

message 729: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Wow...they were really very ahead of their time...

(joking, just so you know)

message 730: by Davis (new)

Davis (davismattek) | 3837 comments Mormons are liars.

message 731: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Seems so. Or just excitable storytellers..hehe

message 732: by Jayda (new)

Jayda I'll answer those when I have the time, Davis. It probably won't be tomorrow since I'm going to a party that starts in the morning and goes until late at night. Until then, here's the literal definition of religion:

1 a: the state of a religious b (1): the service and worship of God or the supernatural (2): commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance
2: a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices

I'd say that we are, indeed, a religion.
Good night!

message 733: by Davis (new)

Davis (davismattek) | 3837 comments Well, Brigham Roberts couldn't answer them, so I doubt you'll be able too.

message 734: by Jayda (new)

Jayda Brigham Roberts was alive in the late 1800's, early 1900's... We've had more revelations since then, though I'm sure you won't believe them to be revelations.

message 735: by Davis (new)

Davis (davismattek) | 3837 comments If it has anything to do with a prophecy or a vision from God, then your right, I'm not going to believe in them. You can't just wish history to go away.

To Mexico, no less, not even into America.

The problem is in those 3 books and 2,000 pages she DOESN'T mature. Things kinda just take their own course, and she pretty much just sits back and waits for things to be decided for her.

I found the answers to all of your questions at this site and they have references if you want to "Check the information" But I want to say that I believe very strongly in the LDS church and will not be swayed. I KNOW that it is the only true church on the earth. I KNOW that Joseph Smith was really a prophet who saw God and Jesus Christ. I KNOW that he translated the Book of Mormon from the Gold Plates, with Gods help, and that everything writted in that book is true, and NOT a lie. I KNOW all of this and more, and nothing you say will make me ashamed of it or make me take it back.

know |nō|
verb ( past knew |n(y)oō|; past part. known |nōn|)
1 [with clause :] be aware of through observation, inquiry, or information

And what are said observations, inquiry and information that leads you to believe any of that could possibly be true?

message 742: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 25, 2009 12:05PM) (new)

I've read the Book of Mormon, and I've done as Moroni told us to to, pray and ask if it is true, and I recieved an assurance that it is. And because the Book of Mormon is true, everything else HAS to be true. (But I have also prayed and recieved an assurance about the truthfulness of everything else.)

message 743: by Jayda (last edited Jul 25, 2009 12:08PM) (new)

Jayda Gwen, I'm just as you and have done just as you have. As much as I do believe you, others won't and they'll probably call you crazy. Don't take it personally - they do that to just about anyone who doesn't agree with them, sadly.

I'm glad that you have the courage to stand-up for what you believe in, though! :) It's always nice to see other Mormons who believe as I do.

"And because the Book of Mormon is true, everything else HAS to be true."

What exactly constitutes "everything else?"

message 746: by [deleted user] (new)

The fact that Joseph Smith saw God and Jesus Christ and that he translated it. AND the whole principles and teachings of the LDS church

message 747: by Davis (new)

Davis (davismattek) | 3837 comments The Book Of Mormon isn't true and Joseph Smith never saw God.
