Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments Do you mean the yearly Ministers Cat challenge?

message 202: by Heather (new)

Heather Bailey | 132 comments Not sure... I keep seeing people reference the outlander challenge when they are talking about certain books they are currently reading

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments Here's the link. It's almost over now, but I'm pretty sure we're doing the same one again for the 2013 year.

Joyce Burns | 16 comments I have a question but I have never posted before and do not want to add a spoiler? I am going to try so this is a warning that it may not work! I have a question about Lord John Did Diana ever write any details about the circumstances leading up to his marriage? I thought this would be interesting. I know who everyone is but no details? Did I miss something? Hope I did that correctly!

message 205: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments It didn't work, Joyce. It's not too much of a spoiler though.

Just to make it easier. This is how your spoiler text should look:

Wendy, yell at me if you must... I don't really think this is a spoiler, but if it is, I'll fix it.

Joyce, Diana hasn't revealed the full circumstances of Lord John Grey's marriage, nor much about the marriage, itself. In fact, the last I'd read when she was questioned about this very thing was that she didn't know. The way that she writes tends to be in scenes; and so far, she hadn't really written or paid much attention to the marriage, other than the fact of it.

I will put this in a spoiler tag, though: (view spoiler)

But I do hope that DG illuminates us on LJ's marriage, some day. Why? I guess "inquiring minds want to know"! ;-)

Joyce Burns | 16 comments Thank you! It is all just what I thought but I also thought I could be missing something. I just read the elopement scene and loved it. The old Jamie coming to the rescue! I think all I have left is "Lord John and the Hand of the Devils". There were times I rushed to find out what happened and times I read into the middle of the night half asleep. So I would hate to have missed this. Thank you again.

Heather in FL (heather_fl) Interesting! I just got my Claire ring the other day. :-) My hubs would just roll his eyes if I said I was making *food* from the books now. Lol!

Yay, another person with a Claire ring! Aren't they beautiful? I've been wearing mine for almost 2 years now and it gotten dinged up (I wear it every day), but it's still awesome :)

message 213: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) I saw it and thought it would be a good Christmas present and then set it aside... I only got the silver one, but yes, I love it! It's much heavier/thicker than I thought it would be.

What is a Claire ring?

Brunhilde | 158 comments Totally crazy random question--I was just wondering if any of you have read the Jack Reacher books by Lee Child. They aren't romance more like suspense and mystery. They are not what I usually read but a good friend turned me onto them. And I have tons of questions and everyone here in Outlander world has been so amazing about answering question and analyzing I was hoping someone might have read them and could discuss them with me.

message 218: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments I haven't - i think the first one is on my pile somewhere - but there might be a lee child group here on GR you can check out

message 219: by Brunhilde (new)

Brunhilde | 158 comments thanks Dee, I have checked with the group. I think these particular books appeal more to men who are mostly interested in the main character fighting ability and less interested in his brother's love life, which I think is turning into a sub plot. So I thought maybe some wonderful Outlander people could help me past together the romantic plot.
If you ever get to it on your pile, let me know. I am quite addicted to them.

message 220: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments i have to admit that right now i'm in no rush to pick them up because of the movie previews I saw with Tom Cruise in it - I might not have read the books, but I know enough about the character to know the TC is ntohing like LD...

if you are looking for something similar, you could try john stanford

you are so right about TC being nothing like Jack Reacher. I think it is great that someone who hasn't even read the books can know that but Hollywood didn't. The movie would have been so much better with better casting. TC was not believable as Jack Reacher.
I will check out John Stanford. Thanks again.

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments whoops I meant reacher, I typed Davenport who is John stanford

message 223: by Monica (new)

Monica | 5 comments Does anyone remember in A Breath of Snow and Ashes when Claire, Jamie and the family had to attend the funeral for the old woman and the "sin-eater" comes in. Diana describes him very well and Claire has this off feeling about him then passes out I guess. Dose anyone know who he is? I can't remember reading anything that would tell of who he is. I have read the series more than once and now I am listening to it. This part just came up and I am trying my best to think if she ever told us who this is or why she reacted that way to him? Thanks for any help. I would have posted this under the book section for this book however couldn't find it under topics?!?!

the other courtney | 162 comments He was the guy that Malva later got fluids from (for germs) to get Claire sick. Don't know who he was exactly - some mountain man that lived on his own and was deformed or ill, based on Claire's description of him at the wake. But you're right: there seemed to be a very obvious, deliberate recognition - the color of his eyes, her thinking that it was like looking in a distorted mirror. No idea what it could mean though.

I love the Jack Reacher books! Unless something has come out in the last couple of months I have read them all. I have at least 3 female friends who read the Lee Child books. Yes! TC was wrong, wrong, wrong for the part of JR. I always say Jamie is my man in the past, jack reacher is my man of today and Roarke is my man of the future.

Who is Roarke?
I am reading book 8 now and it goes to the past and I love the bit with his brother and mother. I am hopeful we can learn more about Joe.

message 228: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments Roarke is the main male character in JD Robb's in death series - futuristic police procedurals/romance - JD Robb is also known as Nora roberts

message 229: by Brunhilde (new)

Brunhilde | 158 comments I just ordered the first book. It seems to be highly praised, loved, and appreciated. I will have to check it out. Thanks.

message 230: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments I'll tell you that it took me a couple of books to warmup to eve - in fact, I think I put the first book aside 2 or 3 times, and then grabbed the audiobook at a sale - that is what hooked me

message 231: by Brunhilde (new)

Brunhilde | 158 comments I tend to be overly hard on women characters in books. I didn't like Claire at first, but now I love her. I am mentally preparing to set aside my overly critically analytically obsessed brain.
Thanks a lot again. I finished all my jigsaw puzzles and really need some more good books.

message 232: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) In Death should last you a while... they're on what, #36? :-)

message 233: by Patty (new)

Patty | 190 comments Heather in FL wrote: "In Death should last you a while... they're on what, #36? :-)"

I have been reading/listening to them for a long time and at one point I could not figured out the last book I listen to so I just started at the beginning again and that was fun because it had been so long since I had started the series. I listen to a lot of audiobooks because I can listen to them at work. They are just fun books and a easy read, and I just love the characters in the books.

message 234: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments I'm up to #17 in the series I think - but I have all but 35, 36 in audiobook - audible did a sale last year with each of them being on 7.95

message 235: by Brunhilde (new)

Brunhilde | 158 comments I was wondering if anyone knows if there is an Into the Wilderness Group? I have started reading it and it I am filled with questions and thoughts.
Thanks

I tried searching but came up with nothing, but I am not the best searcher.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I do not know of one, but we do have the 'Other notable series' thread, and I created a spot for Into the Wilderness. I know a lot of the ladies in here have read it.

I avoid all Tom Cruise movies automatically, but I particularly would not see Reacher because I have read the first book and loved JR. Did not want my image spoiled by TC - who is *so* not Jack Reacher.

message 240: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments I haven't read any of the Reacher books, but did read where many of the fans of these books were very upset that Tom Cruise would be playing the part. Isn't the character of Reacher like over 6' and really built?
Like I said, never read any of them.
By the way I, too, avoid anyting with Tom Cruise. Although I did see his War of the Worlds and thought the two kids playing his kids were superior actors to him.

Sara (saragr) | 96 comments Thought some of you might find it interesting, especially the ones who may know Gaelic, that my sister is getting a tattoo right now of "Creideamh" on her wrist. It means faith. At least that's what she said! lol...No, I looked it up and found a blog by a minister in Scotland that has it spelled that way. Becky(my sister) wanted me to ask you guys anyway just to see. Even though it's too late. Ha

I love your choices of men. I, too, love all of those. I was disgusted when I heard that TC was chosen for Jack Reacher. (Personally, I don't like him in anything - just don't get all the hype.) I would have liked to see the movie - but not with TC in it.

Did I conjure this up or did this actually happen and if it did was it Jamie?
