Carren Kay | 953 comments My husband's an avid reader. Unfortunately, it's usually historical non fiction that he reads. Ask him about the Civil War or WWII and he's all over it.

Oh Well...

Thanks Peggy! I'm so glad that we met up and get together whenever I'm in town :D Yes, the picture came out but I don't remember the waitress taking the shot at a lower angle looking up at us...weird, but it's in focus yay. I'll try to add it here by using the How To thingy. But will print one off for you and mail it.

Everybody - Peggy is LOTS of fun and knows her music!

Nope, the adding an image won't work. I'll use it as my avatar, if that's okay Peggy? It could make a good avatar for Thanksgiving - being thankful for friends - GR friends :D

I caught that the other night! I'm trying to remember that history and had to dig out my Britannica encyclopedia (yeah, we still have a set that dates back to the 60s LOL - kept it for the kids and now I'm keeping it for me). I wonder how close the show will stick to the true history? Geez. I like the wardrobe and the location scenery.

Ahh sorry that the adding image didn't work. Would love to see the pic as your avatar this month, although I love your current avatar, such a beautiful photo! Also very thankful for our friendship :D

Keep forgetting to watch "Reign" so not sure if I'll catch up with it or not. I finally watched the final episode of Castle from last season so now I can start watching this season's episodes that I've recorded.

Her true story is pretty tragic! Just like most historicals! The second episode was better than the first! More intrigue and less fluff!

Hey! I didn't even flinch when you said "Britannica encyclopedia" LOL!

Did you see the post from DG that MOBY has been delayed with no release date yet announced? She says it's to make the book better and to tie it in with the release of the TV show. I'm ok with the first reason, but I wish the TV show didn't dictate when the book could come out.

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments Link?

message 317: by Katie (new)

Katie Raeder (raederkatie) | 153 comments I just looked it up on amazon and it still has the March release. I am not sure she can change the date now that it has been pre-ordered by so many. If she has changed it I am glad I have not ordered yet as I hope to move between march and next summer.

message 318: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments i knew it was originally scheduled for like now, and got delayed - so it could have been that, vice the march release

message 319: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments ok, found it, she posted it on her facebook - she isn't sure when it is going to be out - its up to the publishers her reasons were 1) knowing she needed more time to get it right, that she could get words on the page, but that wouldn't be right and 2) that she is a consultant for the show and has obligations which is eating into her writing time

message 320: by Katie (new)

Katie Raeder (raederkatie) | 153 comments Here it is:

Well. I _really_ hate writing this, and I do apologize….but the pub date for MOBY is moving.

Two reasons for this:

1. The first—and by far the most important—is that I began to realize about a month ago that I needed a little more time in order to finish the book the way it needs to be done. I could get the necessary wordage on paper by the end of the year—but it wouldn’t be _good_. Good takes more time. And I’m really sorry, but you’re not getting a book that’s less than the best I can do.

2. The second thing has to do with the new Starz tv show. Two things about _that_:

a. While the original guess as to the date for the series release was April, that _was_ only a guess. In New York last month, the Starz people were telling me (and the assorted fans present; it’s not a secret) that it will be (take your pick), “June,” “July,” “August,” or “summer.” So, you know…later.

b. While I don’t have (and don’t want) “control” over anything to do with the show, I actually am (by contract) a consultant. And while I told the production people that I considered my main job to be staying out of their way, they are amazingly generous about including and involving me. And I am actually required to do promotional things for the PR side of the production. Sooo….am I going to say, “Sorry, I can’t be paying attention to all this fascinating stuff going on, and I’m not going to New York Comic Con, because I have to stay home and finish my novel?” Errr….no. (I mean, really—would _you_?)

So. I would have told you this a week or so ago, but once I’d made the decision that I needed an extra two months to do the book properly, all of the publishers needed to be officially informed. (Publishers hate finding out important things on Twitter or Facebook.)

Now, it’s up _to_ those publishers now to decide on a new pub date. They need to take into consideration all kinds of things, including the new date for the tv show’s release (not that there is an _official_ date as yet—and even if there was, it could move. Stuff Happens, as I’ve told you before), plus the usual considerations—where they can find a good slot in their existing schedule, what’s a good time of year for it, and so on.

I don’t have any idea what the new pub date might be. I’ll tell you the minute we know. But my immediate concern is for all the people I’ve seen this week excitedly making plans to come and see me in Portland or wherever.

Since the pub date is moving….I’m afraid (and my Deep Apologies to the poor publicists) all the tour events will have to be rescheduled, once a new date is chosen.

Now, I know a lot of you have been ordering tickets to the Portland event on April 6th. I’ll talk to the Random House people and the Portland people, and see what can be worked out. I’m happy to go and do that event, even if it’s not part of the official book-tour, if the organizers want that. But that’s up to them. I _will_ do my best to make sure you aren’t harmed by the change, though.

I’m sorry about this, and I thank you for your patience and understanding.

Heather in FL (heather_fl) Bummer :-( But hey... it gives me extra time (I guess) to get in my re-listen of the series. :-)

message 322: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments Yeah, it wasn't so much about wanting to release the book with the show, but more about how her obligations to Starz as a consultant cause conflict with her ability to meet the deadline.

As much as it stinks, I can understand it.

message 323: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments At least as a consultant on the series, we know the producers are going to do right by the books.
I can wait for the book. The wait makes it a little more exciting.
Just a little, though.

message 324: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) ARGH! I know, I know... I appreciate DG's reasons. I just HATE WAITING!

Joanna, you are DEFINITELY not alone! There's a roller coaster of emotions and life packed into this series. And DG is the kind of writer that makes you FEEL them all.

Guess I'll have to seriously reconsider re-reading the series with the interspersed LJG books (all in DG series order) as I wait for the new MOBY date. AND the new Starz series release date.

As to Sam H and BF or GF... no idea. I suspect he'd hold off on any announcements or acknowledgements until after the series airs. After all, if he is gay, that could affect viewers accepting him as Jamie, who definitely doesn't understand or accept gay POV. (Not that it would matter to me; if he plays Jamie the way DG said she felt it in his audition tapes, then he becomes Jamie. And that's that. Just not sure that all fans would agree and be able to separate Sam from Jamie. Many don't seem to be able to do that now - LOL!)

message 325: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_b) | 429 comments I bought tickets to see her here in Portland. I REALLY hope she keeps the date--I'd like to see her regardless of whether MOBY is out yet.

message 326: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Kimberly, oh yeah - what a wonderful opportunity to meet DG in person!

message 327: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 345 comments Well shoot. What's 2 months or 5 tacked on, after waiting this long? I'll keep in mind it will be a better story this way :D

Forgot DG was planning on a Portland date and that I had considered going. Maybe. Because I didn't see a Seattle date back when I last checked. But Portland sounds kind of iffy at this point.

Oops, just checked our encyclopedia set and they're World Book, not Brittanica and Scott's parents must've got them in the early 60s because there's annual updated info books, starting with 1964 thru 1970. They're fascinating to read with all that 60s stuff that happened. I was just a little kid then (Scott is 5 years older than me so I like to rub in that when he graduated from HS in 68, I was in the 8th gr. LOL). Our kids actually used the encyclopedias a lot for school until we got the internet. Right after we got a private phone line (no longer on the party line system). Oh man... please excuse this blast from the past. Must be the caffeine.

Reign - I forgot to watch it for 2 weeks now! Have some catching up to do.

message 329: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1239 comments I've been waiting since the release of Echo so a little longer wont kill me but dang man, this just stinks!

message 330: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_b) | 429 comments I think the main problem with the Portland appearance is that the ticket price is supposed to include a copy of MOBY. Since it won't be out yet, I don't know how that'll work.

message 331: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1239 comments Where did you find info about the portland appearance?

message 332: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_b) | 429 comments I live in Portland and I heard about it initially through my local independent bookstore. Then, I heard about the possible cancellation from DG's Facebook page. I'm really hoping she'll still come. Maybe some ARCs would be available by then even if the finished copies of MOBY aren't. I'd be happy getting an ARC.

message 333: by [deleted user] (new)

I can't believe that people are still sending Diana FB messages telling her that Chris Hemsworth should be cast as Jamie. She just commented on yet another one someone just sent last night. Give it a rest! It's kind of embarrassing that the casting drama is still going on--especially after she sent out that message saying to stop telling her about it as they are not going to make changes to the casting at this point (which they shouldn't since they've done a great job so far). People are so funny.

message 334: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments I always pictured CH as Jamie, but once I say Sam, that sealed it.

message 335: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments Me too, I always pictured CH as Jamie too. But if someone had shown me a picture of Sam I would have been just as thrilled with him. I have absolutely NO complaints.

Honestly, I've been avoiding the naysayers. I find myself gettign all heated and pissed off, and I just don't want anything to bring me down.

Katie Raeder (raederkatie) | 153 comments I read through one of the "debates" that involved buttons. Needless to say there was one person that commented that had the person that was pitching the fit, eating dust. LOVED IT!! I was on one of the 3 daily lines on FB. I am proud that I did not read the daily lines no matter how tempting 3 of them were today.

there is a reason why the date has not changed on Amazon ... because Herself has not released a new date

of course she can change the date .. if the book isn't done it isn't done and if you have preordered the book it will stay in preordered state until it is released.

message 341: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_b) | 429 comments Diana's Portland event is officially canceled and they're projecting the book to be out next fall now...

message 342: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments Next fall :( sad panda. Last year they were saying fall 2013 - that is a whole year difference, I know we all cannot wait for it but it is for good reasons we are not getting it sooner. We want it to be her best and nothing else. We want to see the series take off and get the ratings to keep it going season after season. That takes time and some PR on her part so we will be patient and keep waiting and talking about it.

message 343: by Sara (new)

Sara (saragr) | 96 comments Oh man, why won't these people give it a rest??? What's the point in complaining now lmao. I always imagined Chris at Jamie too but I wouldn't dare try to insinuate I know Jamie better than the author! Crazy pants.

message 345: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 549 comments I just want to say, the more I see Sam, the more I can see Jamie in him. To me it is his eyes. They have that relaxed look that mirrors Jamie's attitude. Also, they have a look like he is lost in deep thoughts of deep feelings. His eyes really do it for me. I think he will be a great Jamie.

Thanks for posting this, Katie! Watching it brought chills and tears. Considering when it took place. The sword dance was my fav part. I loved the shots of the Black Watch with the White House hazy in the background. I wonder if they still allow performances there so close to the White House? I'm guessing not, with security reasons and all.

message 349: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk | 957 comments Katie, that was amazing! Quite profound actually! Plus, I used to be a huge JFK and Jackie fan. It was awesome to hear JFK speak, see the kids on the balcony....and sadly JFK was assassinated just 9 days later.....

message 350: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1239 comments Love that video... JFK was always spoken about highly in my family, being a big catholic family. I remember my mother telling me about the day he was assassinated and how the nuns were so upset and crying. My mother thought the world was over that day and in a sense it was the end of her innocence.
