The murder and its investigation take place in an English boarding school. More than a simple murder mystery, this book considers the social attitudes and values found in such institutions. This edition has two very interesting afterwords by the author - one written in 1989, and one written in 2010 - in which he discusses his own feelings about the English Public School system.
(Here in the UK a Public school is in fact a private, fee paying school!)

Notes:
Together the both audio books I listened to for this task are Die Herren von Winterfell, the German edition of the first half of A Game of Thrones.
It fits the task because some of the characters find and take in young wolves. They raise them and the wolves are of importance to the plot in several places.
The German paperback edition (linked above) has 543 pages, so this qualifies as a Big Book .
