Bethany It seems that a lot of them are hard to put down these days. There are some really awesome PA novels coming out.

I grabbed Tiger's Curse (Tiger Series, #1) by Colleen Houck from the library today...anyone read it??

message 802: by Julie (new)

Julie I'd say Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by Kendare Blake would be worth the purchase. I also really loved Blood Red Road (Dustlands, #1) by Moira Young except I didn't really buy the worm part, I thought that was a bit much but definitely can't wait to see what they will do with a movie.

I started Gil's All Fright Diner by A. Lee Martinez but I just picked up World War Z An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks so I can't decide if I want to read that instead. I'm trying to do a bit of a themed October since Halloween has always been a favorite of mine.

message 803: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I just got to the worm part. Like, I'm literally on the page where Jack lifts up his shirt, shows them the scar and says "does that answer yer question?" So, I haven't quite formed my opinion yet about said worm, but I will definitely let you know what I think when I'm done with the book...which will probably be in an hour or two. ;)

So what is the verdict? :)

message 805: by Bethany (last edited Oct 15, 2011 08:48PM) (new)

Bethany Well...haha. I definitely understand why you didn't buy the worms. A lot of times when I read a novel and there are creatures in it, I find it hard to imagine/picture them unless the author is like, amazingly descriptive. So, my biggest issue was that the thing that I pictured based on the descriptions looks really funny. I couldn't really identify them with anything in the real world and that makes them less believable. But, overall, I seriously enjoyed this book!

I also just finished Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky and it was really good too!

message 806: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amonika) I just finished Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater and Forever (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #3) by Maggie Stiefvater . I wish I would have just stuck to my original plan to read the first book of the series and not finish.

I'm now reading Torment (Fallen, #2) by Lauren Kate .

Haha...that's funny. Well, I loved Shiver and Linger, but I was definitely underwhelmed with Forever. I wanted more from it. So, I can kinda indentify with you there.

I despised Torment. But, then I wasn't crazy about Fallen. Hopefully you enjoy it more than I did. It's funny because I really liked the 3rd book in the series, Passion. Because it's totally different. Anyway, let us know what you think.

I'm reading Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1) by Juliet Marillier which is all out fantasy and it's wonderful so far. I've been dyyyying for good fantasy lately and I have definitely found it.

message 808: by Julie (new)

Julie I got Enclave (Razorland, #1) by Ann Aguirre and Ashes, Ashes by Jo Treggiari for my birthday and I had to start Enclave right away! :)

Oh, Enclave. You're gonna Looooove it!!!

I've finished Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1) by Juliet Marillier and I'm kinda speechless. I have seriously been in need of good fantasy. This author is a great storyteller. I loved every minute of it. I don't normally fly through 5o0 pagers, but this book was seriously hard to put down and I can't wait to get the next book!

message 810: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 18 comments I finished Glow and The Death Cure. Glow was OK, but the Death Cure was great! Read it in a day - it kinda felt too short, I wanted more to happen, but I guess I'll take what I can get. Not sure what to read now.

message 811: by Carey (new)

Carey | 100 comments Deat Cure was definitely great!! Totally agree! It ended how I felt it should've been from the middle of The Scorch Trials. Awesome!

I just started The Eleventh Plague and love how the words flow. Can't wait to get through more of it.

Kinda off subject here, but has anyone read Graceling and Fire (how do you guys get the book covers to show up here?)? Those are amazing fantasies.

Carey, when you are typing in the comment box, there is an "add book/author" link right above the comment box. If you click on it, search for the book, and then click the cover radial button, the book will appear in the post.

I'm still reading Torment (Fallen, #2) by Lauren Kate and I now understand why the book was named this. I should just quit now and go back to Dystopian books.

message 813: by Carey (new)

Carey | 100 comments Amanda - HA!! True. It is a Torment. ;). They all drive you nuts in that one.
Thanks for the help. I'll try to find it next time.

message 814: by Bethany (new)

Bethany HAHA...Amanda, I couldn't agree more. I think the fourth book should be called TORTURE! Strangely enough, I will admit that I actually enjoyed the third book, Passion. It was very different from the first two. But, I hated Torment.

Carey - I just read the Eleventh Plague. It wasn't great, for me, but it was a good story. Not the best or most creative PA, but it definitely wasn't bad. And I love Graceling. It was one of the first books I came across when I got into this whole 'reading' thing. I love it. Didn't care as much for Fire. However, the third book, Bitterblue (The Seven Kingdoms, #3) by Kristin Cashore is coming out soon and I'm quite ecstatic about that one.

message 815: by Julie (new)

Julie I'm working on World War Z An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks right now. I just picked up The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson from the library and bought Dearly, Departed (Dearly, #1) by Lia Habel , I'm pretty excited about those. :)

message 816: by Bethany (last edited Oct 20, 2011 12:36PM) (new)

Bethany I'm on to Tiger's Quest (Tiger Series, #2) by Colleen Houck and Child of the Prophecy (Sevenwaters, #3) by Juliet Marillier .

Julie, let me know what you think of World War Z. I saw it at the library, but I wasn't sure it would be something I would be interested in.

Will do. It's different so far.

message 818: by Carey (new)

Carey | 100 comments Bethany- I liked Tigers Quest much better than the 1st book. Hope you enjoy

message 819: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Yeah, I think I'm forming the same opinion. So far I like this one better.

message 820: by Carey (new)

Carey | 100 comments The Eleventh Plague seemed more real to me. I really liked the feeling of the rhythm. It wasn't as good as Hunger Games, etc...but I liked it

message 821: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I just finished Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green which was not my favorite, but it was pretty hilarious. My other bookclub does a featured author of the month thing and October is John Green. I also grabbed Paper Towns by John Green and Looking for Alaska by John Green .

message 822: by Amber (new)

Amber | 13 comments I'm currently reading The Iron Knight (Iron Fey, #4) by Julie Kagawa and The Ask and the Answer (Chaos Walking, #2) by Patrick Ness . The Iron Knight, fourth in the Iron Fey series, makes me want to keep reading even though my eyes are burning for me to stop. Everything I expected so far and more. The Ask and the Answer, sequel to The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness , is awesome. So far, it's twisted my feelings just as it does Todd and Viola's. It's different from anything I've ever read and I like when a book makes you uncertain and it's unpredictable. I'm curious to see where it's heading, and it bums me out that it kept being not chosen as a book of the month.

message 823: by Julie (new)

Julie Just finished World War Z An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks , it was pretty interesting but not really what I was expecting.

Bethany, I'm not sure you would enjoy it, unless you like history books. It's exactly what the title says it is "An Oral History of the Zombie War" lol. So unless you like books like that I probably wouldn't read it.

I got a bunch of non-fiction books from the library, not necessarily for enjoyment so I'm trying to decide whether I want to start those or Dearly, Departed (Dearly, #1) by Lia Habel

Wasn't Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1) by Juliet Marillier amazing?!?! That one is definitely going to stick with me forever. I'm glad others are just discovering it like me. I hope they re-issue a hardback version with a new beautiful cover someday so I can buy it. I haven't moved on to the others in the series yet. I'm worried it will wreck the perfectness. What if they are not as good? What if my favorite characters are old and I can't handle it? Ha ha! But I will get there eventually. Marillier is a genius.

message 825: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 27 comments Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by Kendare Blake was a great read! Fantastic creepiness and I loved the male POV with Cas. Very cool and funny.

I had my problems with Ashes (Ashes Trilogy #1) by Ilsa J. Bick but it was definitely worth reading. Very realistic PA scenario, lots of suspense, and I really cared about the characters.

Has anyone else read Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor yet? I thought it was incredible! At first it can seem a little weird, but stick it out, it's worth it!

Haha, you're so funny. I will tell you that the second book was really amazing..I may have even enjoyed it more than the first, but the third book dissapointed me a little. In the second book Sorcha and Red are older and the story is actually about their children, but it is really, REALLY good! I highly recommend that you read it. I wanna read Cybele's Secret and Wildwood Dancing next. I agree, Juliet Marillier is an awesome fantasy writer!!

Yay...I'm excited! Anna dressed in Blood sounds so good. I actually read the first couple chaps of S&B. I got the sample on my Nook and it seemed very promising. I've heard so many good reveiws about that book that I will definitely read it.

message 828: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I'm starting The Iron Thorn (Iron Codex, #1) by Caitlin Kittredge

message 829: by Carey (new)

Carey | 100 comments I just finished Destined...which was so good. Loved it so much more than all the other House of Night books. And now reading The Iron Knight. Ah, Ash and Puck. Can't get enough of those two.

message 830: by Candice (new)

Candice (thecrj) Just finished Witchlanders by Lena Coakley . It was good, different from what I was expecting. It was a solid fantasy novel.

message 831: by Chels M. (last edited Oct 31, 2011 11:37AM) (new)

Chels M. (farewell-autumn) I´m starting The Line (The Line, #1) by Teri Hall . I bought it some months ago and I thought it would be a good idea to read some in English (I´m Spanish). Wish me luck with this one! :)

message 832: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I started The Death Cure (Maze Runner, #3) by James Dashner and so far I am LOVING it!!!

message 833: by Teresa (last edited Nov 01, 2011 10:01AM) (new)

Teresa Myers (teresamyers) Just finished Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins and can I just say that, for me, it was so much better than the first. I stayed up until 3 in the morning cause I reached a point where I couldn't fall asleep without knowing what happened. I rated Hunger Games a 3 but this one is getting a 5. Can't wait to get the other one now.

So now I need to finish both The Iron Knight (Iron Fey, #4) by Julie Kagawa and Misguided Angel (Blue Bloods, #5) by Melissa de la Cruz because I'm halfway through both of them but I really want to read Mastiff (Beka Cooper, #3) by Tamora Pierce instead since it just came in the mail this morning.

message 834: by Andrew (new)

Andrew | 22 comments Finish Dust & Decay by Jonathan Maberry which was awesome! Just as good as the first, if not better. I really hope there is going to be a third. Also finished The Scorch Trials (Maze Runner, #2) by James Dashner . Wasnt as into it as I was with The Maze Runner.

Starting The Death Cure (Maze Runner, #3) by James Dashner which I keep hearing good things about. I really hope it makes up for a frustrating book 2.

Also started The Giver (The Giver, #1) by Lois Lowry . It's been on my to-read shelf forever and I was finally able to borrow it from a friend.

message 835: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 3 comments I just finished It's the first book I've read twice in a row this year! Definite keeper!

message 836: by Devon (new)

Devon (booksandbeyond28) I am 67% done with DELIRIUM and i am absolutely loving it. Its one of my favorite books this year =)

message 837: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I just started The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns #1) by Rae Carson . I'd heard really good things about it. It's good so far, but I'm kinda waiting for it to get great.

message 838: by Giselle (new)

Giselle (itsmegiselle) Just started Delirium by Lauren Oliver

message 839: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (goodreadscomsteph_cross) | 2 comments I just finished Solitary (Escape from Furnace, #2) by Alexander Gordon Smith wasn't to thrilled with it like I was the first, but I'll probably read the third just to find out what happened. Now I've moved on to The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and so far so good!

message 840: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 18 comments Just finished a bunch:
When She Woke (took a little while to get going, but turned out amazing),
The Eleventh Plague (ehh..it was OK, nothing fabulous),
Crossed (I think this one is better than Matched),
Now I'm reading: All These Things I've Done

message 841: by Julie (new)

Julie I'm reading Dearly, Departed (Gone With the Respiration, #1) by Lia Habel and The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #1) by Michelle Hodkin I don't normally get crushes on book characters but right now I'm really loving Bram from Dearly, Departed and Noah from The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. Bram is such a gentleman and the sweetest zombie, and Noah is a cocky ass but I like it. Haha.

I'm feeling a little like I'm on book overload right now, reading these two then Birthmarked (Birthmarked, #1) by Caragh M. O'Brien for the monthly read and Ashes (Ashes Trilogy, #1) by Ilsa J. Bick and Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie that will need to get back to the library.

message 842: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I know just how you feel Julie! I've kinda been overloaded too. I actually took a couple books back to the library...unfinished!! I hate doing that, but I had so much to read and they just weren't the front runners. I'm still trying to finish The Death Cure (Maze Runner, #3) by James Dashner and sadly, it's just not all that I hoped it would be. Perhaps it will pick up. I just picked up The Son of Neptune (Heroes of Olympus, #2) by Rick Riordan Beautiful Chaos (Caster Chronicles, #3) by Kami Garcia & Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson from the library.

message 843: by Carey (new)

Carey | 100 comments I've started The Fourth Eye and then moving onto Tiger's Voyage. And of course Birthmarked for the monthly read.

message 844: by Julie (new)

Yeah, I liked that one too. Unusual but in a good way I've decided. The ideas really stuck with me and there was great world-building. I hope they do a sequel.

message 847: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 27 comments Just finished Bad Taste in Boys by Carrie Harris which was great. It is not a serious zombie book by any stretch of the imagination so don't expect an airtight plot or angsty philosophizing about the nature of humanity. This is just fluffy, gory, B-movie, can-the-nerdy-girl-save-the-jocks-from-becoming-zombies fun. Good if you want to laugh your butt off for three hours.

message 848: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (teoe) I just finished Matched. It's plot was rather similar to The Giver, imho. I did like it, I hope Crossed is better, though. I just started Anna Dressed in Blood.

message 849: by Liz (new)

Liz Mann | 1 comments Hi everyone - I just started Helper12 by Jack Blaine. So far - it is pretty interesting. The last book I read was the Galahad Series by Dom Testa - starting with The Comet's Curse---great series!

message 850: by Carey (new)

Carey | 100 comments I'm reading Tiger's Voyage and LOVING it! But I do love this series. And the new character, Wes, is yummy and hilarious!!! :D
