It does make sense. Sometimes there's nothing in a book that makes it bad, but nothing that makes it really good. I'm not buying books this year so I think I'll wait till next year for that one :)

Laura, you might also want to try the HeartMate series by Robin D. Owens, or the Ghost Hunter series by Jayne Castle. They both take place on other planets ages after being settled by humans, but the story themselves don't have much of the alien or sci-fi element to them, they're more romance with paranormal powers mixed in (and a little bit of a culture-shift).

Finished reading The Darkest Lie (Lords of the Underworld, #6) by Gena Showalter (★★★★). This is a PNR series with an UF-like multi-book story arc. The hero & heroine have their personal HEA at the end of each book, but they're still around (to a lesser extent) in subsequent books to help fight the big, bad, evil of the series story-line.
The background is that when Pandora's box was opened the demons (represending the evils of the world) escaped, but were placed by the gods into the bodies of the warriors who were responsible for keeping the box safe. Thousands of years later the warriors are being hunted by a faction of humans who think all the problems of the world will be solved by killing the warriors. Each book is the story of an individual warrior as they meet their mate.
This book is about Gideon, keeper of Lies, who can't speak even the most simple of truths without being brought to his knees with pain & agony. In the previous book the Lords captured a woman named Scarlet who they discovered was the keeper of Nightmares. She claims to be Gideon's wife - a wife he has absolutely no memories of. And worse yet - Gideon's demon can't tell if Scarlet is lying to him . . . or telling the truth.
This book is kinda tricky to read because of Gideon's inability to speak the truth - meaning he speaks a lot in opposites. Once I got past that, I kinda enjoyed it. The series storyline is getting more complicated with some interference from the Titans, but so far it's totally working for me. I look forward to reading the next book, The Darkest Secret (Amun's Story) when it comes out in March 2011.
The Darkest Surrender (Strider's story) is also expected in October 2011.
The Darkest Seduction (Paris' story) is also in the works, but with no publication date listed yet. Kane's book is also expected in 2012.

Gah, I am having SSOOOO much trouble deciding what to read NOW. I have the new Lupi book, the new Blood Coven book (YA series) The new Madelyn Alt, a book by Kelly Gay that I just discovered for possibly my aliens book, the new Angela Knight book, a new Ilona Andrews, the new Chloe Neil (again, YA series). . . What to read, what to read, what to READ????????
I can't make up my mind, so I'm reading 25 pages of one, switching to another, reading it for 25 pages, switching to another. Its gonna take me FOREVER--plus I'm starting to get the plot threads confused. . .
I can't make up my mind, so I'm reading 25 pages of one, switching to another, reading it for 25 pages, switching to another. Its gonna take me FOREVER--plus I'm starting to get the plot threads confused. . .

That's my Peer Pressure Wenching done for today!

9.psychics/ghosts/humans with paranormal abilities The Better Part of Darkness by Kelly Gay
10.hunters/warriors/slayers/guardians Mercy Blade by Faith Hunter
The Better Part of Darkness was one of those books that I found by accident. I think someone on one of my lists posted a recommendation for it. Its an UF series, that is set in an Earth that is not quite ours. Charlie Madigan is an Atlanta detective who's part of a special task force that deals with alien/human interactions. In this case, the aliens seem to be the equivalent of demons and fae. At least, that's what their names for their dimensions seem to translate to.

Finished reading Naked Dragon (Works Like Magic, #1) by Annette Blair (★★★★). This is definitely a PNR series of the lighter chick-lit variety.
The series premise is that in Salem, MA, there's an employment agency, Works Like Magick, where the owner has a special gift for perfectly - and magically - matching clients & temps.
This book is about McKenna Greylock, a woman who will lose her family heritage - a large Victorian home that she's trying to turn into a Bed & Breakfast. She only has 90 days to meet the inspector's approval or the house will be repossessed and purchased by a smarmy developer. She goes to Works Like Magic to find a handyman to help her with this task, but finds the gorgeous Bastian Dragonelli, who coincidentally is a REAL dragon, instead.
I really enjoyed this book with it's very witty scene descriptions and banter between the lead characters. Readers who enjoyed Blair's previous two connected series will also love this one. There's even a cameo by the Kitchen Witch, herself. :-)
I'll definitely continue reading this series. Book #2, Bedeviled Angel is out now, with Book #3, Vampire Dragon coming April 2011.
