8. space adventurers - The Power of Two by Patti O’Shea
PARANORMAL CREATURES CHALLENGE - MARTINA'S PROGRESS: 7/10Finished reading The Gathering (Immortals, #4) by Jennifer Ashley (★★★★). This is another PNR series that has a UF-style series plot. It revolves around five immortals (sons of various world-religion goddesses) who are sworn to come to the world's aid during times of terrible strife. The balance of the world has shifted too far towards the evil side, so a coven of white witches call for the aid of the immortals.
This book is primarily about the immortal brother, Hunter, and the witch he meets, Leda. Though, it's also a pivotal book in the series plot because, as the title suggests, the immortal brothers are finally gathered together for the first time in the series.
This *could* be the last in the series as it seems to wrap up the series plot from the first three books, but it does leave a few minor questions, and there's one brother and some secondary characters who are still un-mated, so of course there are four more books. :-)
I may read the next three as they feature characters we've come to know (and love) from the previous books. However, the fourth seems to be a short story compilation, so I might not get to that one.
This series is a good alternative for readers who have run out of warrior-type books and who like Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series, or Cheyenne McCray's Magic series, or even Alyssa Day's Warriors of Atlantis series.

PARANORMAL CREATURES CHALLENGE - MARTINA'S PROGRESS: 8/10Finished reading Desire Unchained (Demonica, #2) by Larissa Ione (★★★★). This series is PNR, but leaning toward the erotica side. There's a lot of gratuitous sex and, in this book, at least one scene of BDSM. It's well-done, justifiable within the story and not totally tasteless, but it is in there and may offend some readers.
The series has a UF-like setting - the regular world just with lots of paranormal creatures secretly running around. It takes place in NYC where three brother incubus-demons run an underground demon hospital together. This particular book is about Shade, one of the brothers.
Shade has been captured by a group of demons who have been harvesting the organs of paranormal creatures and selling them on the black market. He wakes up in a dungeon to find himself chained next to former lover - a human woman named Runa. Only Runa isn't human anymore, she's a werewolf and she's still seriously pissed off at Shade and there's a full-moon on the rise.
I really liked this book and the world that Ione has created. I'll definitely be reading the next one, which deals with the brother, Wraith. There are five books in total out in this series right now.

And I KNOW I like this book (I decided on a re-read since the one I'd requested from the library shows no signs of ever getting here--the previous borrower has had it over-due for 3 weeks now) but I just do NOT want to read a sci fi. Well, I'll get it read before the end of the month, even if I have to change which book I'm using for the category.
