1. Clockwork Angel The Infernal Devices 1 by Cassandra Clare: YA-sci-fi / fantasy & first in the series with 481 pages. It's considered YA bcause Protagonists are approx 17-18 yo and they were definitely not considered adults yet in the book; fantasy involving supernatural figures & magic.
2. The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E Lockhart: YA-Coming of Age with 342 pages. This book is a stand alone. It's considered YA because protagonist is approx 15 yo and is struggling with an issue of being underestimated (in terms of age / maturity / intellectual / sex etc)

5.1 Short and Sweet
84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff
Shortest book on my TBR list. Story of her 20 year correspondence with the British book store, Marks & Co. Eventually became a novel, play and a very successful movie. Also borrowed the movie from the library and it was sensational.
5.10 About the Author
Q's Legacy by Helene Hanff
Her autobiography about the writing of 84, Charing Cross Road and her participation in the plays that followed.
15.10 Keep It Simple
The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street by Helene Hanff
This was a "read what you want" task - so I read another of the Helene Hanff series about her correspondence with British booksellers Marks & Co. This book was her journal of the visit she made to London after the closing of Marks & Co. Was fun and entertaining.
20.5 Bigger is Better, and Larger than Life (Unconventional Woman)
Polar Dream: The Heroic Saga of the First Solo Journey by a Woman and Her Dog to the Pole by Helen Thayer
This was an amazing book. 50-year-old woman with an Eskimo dog she just acquired traveling alone for over 200 miles around the North Pole and back. The book was primarily her journal of the adventure - frozen tundra, major storms, attacked by polar bears, personal injuries - partially blinded, etc, etc. I'd say that qualifies as unconvential.

One of my favorite authors is Michael Crichton. Sadly, he died in 2008 and I've read all his books, but I used him for this task.
I rolled a 5 and a 6.
5. Read a book originally published in the same year your favorite author died (2008) -- The Holiday Visitor by Tara Taylor Quinn
6. When I put Michael Crichton's name into the Literature map, one of the authors that came up was James Rollins so I read Altar of Eden.
I'm so happy to find a new (to me) author who's work is similar to Crichton's! Not quite as smooth maybe, but he certainly has the science fact/fiction line-blurring that I love so much in Crichton's work. I'll definitely be reading more by this author.

20.5 Bigger Is Better & Larger Than LIfe
Read G is for Gumshoe by Sue Grafton
The character, Kinsey Milhone, the central character in all of Sue Grafton's alphabet series, is certainly the unconventional sort. She's in her 30's and feels lucky to be single and childless. She is a private eye who was orphaned early in life then raised by an eccentric old aunt. Kinsey is extremely independent and simplistic. She has what she needs and no more. She cuts her own hair, doesn't care about nails, clothing or makeup...and doesn't gossip for the sake of gossiping. She communicates to get a job done. She's sort of a loner, but is eager to help another.

I read Case Histories by Kate Atkinson
I enjoyed it - I've read some complaints about how the book skipped around among the various cases, as well as skipping around in time, but I didn't find that a
problem. I did think it ended a little hastily, though - things seemed to get tied up a little too abruptly.
