Faye (lastchapter) | 409 comments After me having such a lovely day yesterday. My son is on his learners and we had to drive a friend home last night, so he said "Oh can I drive" so off we go he is going along lovely when someone opens a car door into the traffic, we hit the car door with our side mirror. Fright! No one hurt and my son did very well not to panic. But it was an experience I could of done without.

Tui Allen (tuibird) | 143 comments Just reading your comments above about myna birds. We get them here too, not favourites of many people.
But the biggest nuisance birds in our part of the world are the wild turkeys. Huge birds that are far too confident, even though they really are wild. They sometimes come onto our deck and leave huge and horrible deposits, even sometimes right on the doormat! Yuk. One was spending its nights on our garage roof. Jeff found the guttering completely jammed with turkey-doodoos.
One lone wild turkey fell in love with our cat and wanted to move in with us. It would have come inside if we'd left the door open.

That's a shame Faye hope it doesn't put him off driving or you off teaching him. I'm too nervous to teach my girls to drive. I don't know how other people do it.

Woke up today to a sky completely filled with smoke. Our province is being plagued by fires due to a hot, dry summer. My house smells like a campfire.

I hope he isn't discouraged it happens to most of us at sometime. With my learners I panicked and accidentally gassed .. I ran right through my neighbor's driveway into their car [ended up on a rock]. Point is, we learn to chuckle about these things.

We have never had it this bad. We have over 100 active fires burning around this province currently. I thought the apocalypse had arrived when I saw the sky this morning :P

Indeed, they have evacuated houses that are in direct line of the fire. It is only July, so we are hoping for a good amount of rain soon *crossing my fingers*

It's tempting, but this entire country is a snake free zone. If they found out I had a python, I'd probably be sent to jail for the rest of my life. woopsy!

I knew NZ doesn't have any snakes but I didn't know you couldn't keep non poisonous ones as pets. Makes sense though. If they escaped and bred they'd clean out all the small cute mammals fairly quickly!

Yikes, I have no idea how that's happened. It looks like a new "preview" feature, so goodness knows how the whole book ended up available. Thanks for alerting me.

Anyway, the "read" button means you can read the book online in your browser and/or download it.

You'll also find a "Download eBook" button next to "Book links" if you can download the book in ePub e.g. I have Two Birds available for download.

No snakes and no foxes. But plenty of possums, which unlike here, are a pest in NZ.

And I think the Katipo is the only poisonous spider.
