I think everyone at this site has one of those Vicki! It's just the size of it that varies :)

Carolyn | 9868 comments It's wattle time already! This morning I noticed that my neighbour's wattle tree which overhangs our garden has burst into bright yellow fluff balls of flower this week.

Apparently an expert told me there is a variety of wattle that flowers in any given month, so not all the same. But I wouldn't be a bit surprised if plants are confused by weather patterns too.

Our frangipani is flowering!!! As well as losing its leaves! Definitely confused!

Vicki Tyley (vickityley) | 1732 comments It's not just the wattle that's confused. The magpies are already collecting nesting materials. What do they know that we don't, I wonder.

Have a terrific weekend, all!

I came into our family room today after being out and through the glass doors could see two little blue wrens (male plus female) hopping around on our deck. They were pecking at our doormat and looked as if they were pulling off strands of matting. I wondered if they were collecting nesting material, but it seemed way too early for that. But maybe not if Vicki's magpies are nesting already.

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3569 comments Brrrrr......a cold and frosty morning here in the Upper Hunter, followed by a chilly day. On the plus side, I got a nice bit of writing done :)

We popped up to Denman for brekkie and the markets this morning, and it was still only 2 degrees when we left at 10.30am to come home!

We have a couple of birds nesting in next door's roof. Today they were taking in a piece of bubble wrap. We thought they might be waterproofing:)

They love those coir fibres for nesting. And anything else they can get their tiny beaks on. We watched them last year pulling out the stuffing of the barbecue cover.

message 21220: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9868 comments Hope they don't lay their eggs too soon. They'll freeze, although they could insulate with some of Phrynne's bubblewrap :)

Carolyn | 9868 comments My cats are terrified of the bad mynahs as whenever they spot the cats in the garden they squawk so loudly and make such a racket that the cats go beetling back indoors.

Chloe (my dog) hates them too - she barks and growls when they screech, jumps at them and tries to get them. They even torment her by stealing her dry food!

In my garden they terrify the kookaburras , the cockatoos and the magpies. At this rate we won't have any birds left except Mynahs.

Hi Brenda,
Sad but true and probably requiring a more book loving post...
Arrived back in Oz for a brief sojourn and discovered Westfield bondi junction - one of the biggest shopping mecas in the world, you won't find a bigger mall in North America- has one book shop... The ABC, which has about 6 shelves of books! Ok so as an expat I rely on ereaders but I still love a bookshop. Obviously not to be found,

message 21234: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) @SK That is bad news indeed. Probably Westfield's rents were so high that a bookshop couldn't possibly afford it.

I'm afraid you will have to go into the city S.K, where I can assure you won't be disappointed...however our book prices are ridiculously high! Hence no more suburban bookstores...or very few now :(

Faye (lastchapter) | 409 comments Hi all, just wanted to share with you what I did today. A friend of mine was turning 50, so she is a very clever artistic, crafty person. She decided to have a craft day (I am not crafty at all). So she had hired a local hall, set up felting, silk scarf printing, and colouring. But most of all about twenty women sat and drank tea, ate beautiful food, did whichever craft took their fancy but chatted to each other about their personal experiences, in life or craft or whatever. It was a very calm and happy day. I have eaten too much. But it was a lovely, friendly day. I now feel like a little nap.

message 21238: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4436 comments That is such a fabulous idea Faye, I love it! I am not crafty either. My sister in laws used to have craft evenings and I'd put photos in albums! It sounds like such a good day.

I've never noticed this button before, up under the 'want to read' button on the book profile page is a new button 'read book' where you can read the whole book? Is this new...and permanent or??
I only noticed it tonight for the first time on two different books, Brittle Shadows by Vicki Tyley and All Good Deeds by Stacy Green.

Have only noticed it on these two so far Michael, but have never seen it before today...nice surprise if they are freebies? Don't know if the audio on All Good Deeds is also in full or just the usual sample.
We might need to start a thread listing all the freebies if this is a new and permanent feature?
