How's this for an absolutely beautiful sunset at our front door last night!!

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments I don't know what it is but red skies make me nervous. It's obviously a stunning sunset but it just gives me the queasiest feeling when I look at it... It's probably some kind of hangover from my dad, who was a fisherman. He always used to recite the old rhyme 'red sky in the morning, sailor take warning' - perhaps I've forgotten everything except the red sky/warning reference???

Welcome back Jess - can't wait to hear about your adventures :)

The rest is 'red sky at night, sailors' delight' Tracey:)

Ian Stewart (goodreadercomIanStewart) | 213 comments Lovely sunset, Brenda. I have enjoyed some gorgeous crimson colours in the sky when the sun’s gone down over the last couple of weeks, looking out from my balcony. I find beautiful sunsets wonderfully calming. My most memorable sunsets were the ones my wife and I watched from our apartment at Repulse Bay in Hong Kong soon after we were married. Often, a long line of fishing junks heading back to Aberdeen were silhouetted against the red skyline.

That sounds beautiful Ian! Lots of photo material there.... unusual name for a Bay though!

You should put a book together containing a lot of your best (and I'm sure there would be heaps) photos...I'm sure it'd sell very well. Travel photos are great to look at:)

Haha! OK then Ian:) Is your son's book here on GR?

message 6715: by Ian (new)

Ian Stewart (goodreadercomIanStewart) | 213 comments Doesn't come up on a search. Available in many bookstores in Australia and Asia still although published in the 1980s. Also selling on Amazon, where the author (Ian Charles Stewart) rates a biog. It's called Indonesians - Portraits from an Archipelago.

I found it by going to World Cat first, getting the ISBN from there, then doing a GR search. Once I found it, I had to add extra data, plus the cover pic, as it was just a generic book, without any information:)

Thanks Brenda... as soon as I read it I remembered hearing it. Weird how certain things stick in your brain while others are completely forgotten. I remembered the 'warning' but forgot completely about the 'delight'... odd.

I had completely forgotten about daylight savings time but my computer, phone etc are all tuned to NSW time for some reason so I woke this morning feeling slightly confused... nothing too unusual there :)

Tahlia Newland (tahlian) | 90 comments I agree with everyone on the sunset. It's always nice to have some visuals in the group too.

I thought you might enjoy this video taken in my back yard, with the native animals that wander around it. It's called 'Why authors have spikes'. http://youtu.be/WOtN9PjxKJw

message 6732: by Tracey (new)

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments That's a great book trailer Tahlia. I wouldn't mind having an echidna wandering around in my backyard - although I don't know that my dogs would enjoy it as much as I would :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I only added the bit about the book at the end. The actual book trailer is different.

I don't have dogs. If I did, I suspect the echidnas and wallabys wouldn't come to visit.

message 6735: by Tracey (new)

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments Ahhh, I'll stick with my dogs then. I don't think an echidna would want to curl up in my lap to watch TV :)

Do you know Michael I honestly cannot remember the last time I wrote an actual letter. Obviously we sent out invitations to our engagement party, wedding etc but an actual letter? It's practically a dying art, if not already dead. I'm going to take the hint and write a letter to my best friend... it'll give her a shock if nothing else lol

message 6736: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80165 comments Mod
Ha Tracey, yes she will get a shock!! I think a 'real' letter is lovely, but with the invention of email, it's much easier and quicker:)

message 6737: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Sharp (margaretlynettesharp) | 1215 comments I don't remember the last time I wrote: or received: a 'real' letter. E-mails have taken written communication to another level.

I'd never thought about it before Jess - I do know that men seem to communicate with their friends completely differently than women do. My husband is an identical twin and when he's with his brother I'm honestly not sure they even hear each other speak... they seem to just keep talking! In my, limited, experience however, that seems to be the exception and not the rule ;)

And yes, I did send my friend a letter... now all I have to do is wait for the inevitable phone call or text message saying 'what the heck?' lol
