Jessy (snuggleglooms) | 381 comments My training nightly training I do is treadmill then swimming. Saturday mornings as a rehab session and for fun I do an aqua aerobics class. Sundays are my rest day. That's my off season work out. Although, come January there will be weight sessions added to that. When I am in season one week I do the above plus competition day the next week I do two days a week of shot put/hammer/discus or javelin training depending on where I am with all of them what needs the most work/fine tuning then also a competition day as well. Plus aqua aerobics on Saturday.

Thanks for my share of compliments, Brenda!

Isn't it awesome to know we're such a fit bunch: surrounded by athletes!

I train nearly every day in swimming, from mid September to mid-May: swimming an average of 750 metres per session. When I was young, I'd do a couple of kilometers a day, all year round.
It's fantastic to be fit!

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments Congratulations Margaret on a fabulous result and keep up the good work Jessy. I haven't been in any real training since I broke my back - prior to that I was a boxer and trained regularly. I'm hoping to get back to the gym soon to do some light weights and cardio and hopefully build back some of the fitness I've lost.

Terribly sad to hear about Bryce Courtenay although I understand he hasn't been well for some time so perhaps for him it is a blessing.

Hope everyone has a wonderful festive season without too much stress :)

Hi Tracey, it must have been awful for you to break your back. I hope you can get back into sport soon; Faye is so right when she talks about missing it.
Thanks for your congratulations!

message 6914: by Tracey (new)

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments Thanks Faye and Margaret - I do miss it even though I was only ever an amateur boxer. Ironically I never suffered any injuries in the ring but have had quite a few mishaps outside of the ring. I'll probably never be able to fight again but I do look forward to including some boxing in my training regime as I regain my fitness.

Terribly sad to hear of Larry Hagman's passing. I saw quite a few interviews he did and he always came across as a genuinely nice person.

So as many would know year 10 don't have a school certificate anymore! YAH! So instead of SC exams at my school we get yearly individual subject tests--- CHECK, FINISHED, DONE--- and an interview with three people asking you questions. I did mine about an hour ago. It wasn't that bad but I would have rather done the exams!

I know. It's really weird but it's because we're not allowed to leave at the end of year10 we have to go on to at least year11. So there was no use in the SC exams.

So it's illegal for you to leave at the end of year 10 now? I think I do remember hearing something about it, some time ago...

They had been saying it for years, back when I was in year6/7 and now they have decided to get rid of it and keep kids at school for longer.

We had Aussie author Jaye Ford at our bookclub tonight, and she was wonderful. Such an interesting lady, and she kept us enthralled for well over an hour. I can't wait for her new thriller, Blood Secret which will be released in September next year...just wish it wasn't so far away!!!

Really....??? How do you do that? Do you know them personally or do you invite them along and is it their book that you're reading for that particular meeting? That's so cool. Is your group one of those specially registered ones?

That's ok Elaine:) It actually started with this year being National Year of Reading, and Shelleyrae (who lives 2 hours from me) was made an ambassador for it. The ball started rolling when all the libraries began getting into the act of getting authors for meet and greets, plus signings all over the country. And when Shelleyrae organised with her local library to have one of my FAVOURITE authors appear, Helene Young, I went up for it, stayed overnight after going out to dinner with Helene, Lisa Heidke, Shelleyrae and some library people, and headed home the next day. I organised for Helene to come to my home town, which she did in August..a few of us went out to dinner after the meet and greet, there were 3 authors there, Helene, Wendy James and Jaye Ford. As you can imagine, I was star struck!! lol

We also had Wendy come to our library during the year, plus I've gone to other libraries and met quite a few more! So the national year of reading has been an immense boost for our local Aussie authors, and I just hope we continue to meet lovely authors next year and beyond, and it doesn't stop just because NYofR is over!

Tonight's visit by Jaye was my third time for meeting her, she is such a lovely person:)

Sorry, yes, we always read the author's book in the month before the meeting, so we can ask her lots of questions about it:) And no, we aren't a registered bookclub, just some like-minded readers who meet once a month to yak about books;)

Dean Mayes Hi guys,

I applied to be a part of a program call Read A Book Make A Difference (aka RABMAD) which is helmed by American author Rob Guthrie. I got a message this afternoon to say my application had been accepted. They just went live with my page tonight.

I'm pretty excited about this.

That's really awesome Brenda. I don't blame you for being "star struck" either. I would be. I know on the few occasions I've met the authors of some of my favourite books ( mind you they've usually been events I've paid for) it's been amazing.I know my local library does have authors come and speak now and again but so far no one that I know or whose books I've read. Obviously you live in the right part of the world for that type of thing!!!

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments I tried to get a book-club going locally but it fell rather flat, sadly. It seems in my part of the world that we have lots of book lovers but not many who're interested in the discipline of reading a set book each month - seems crazy to me but there you are :)

Congratulations Dean :)

That's a shame Tracey but I guess that's what's great about GR and being part of this group.I know it's not the same as having a real in the flesh group but it's still pretty awesome. I know with our book club it's become more of a dinner club and we barely talk about the book so this is much better for me.
