I'm sure your girls will have a wonderfully, magic Christmas.

My family stopped celebrating Christmas many years ago now and I've honestly never missed it. I can often be so engrossed in my own life that I almost forget it's on its' way :) I do remember that when we did celebrate Mum always seemed to be ready to go by about November - her closet and under her bed were her two favourite hiding spots for presents but my younger sister and I always found them lol I still think it's a great idea but it just became far too expensive and a little too commercial for my taste but I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas season :)

message 7018: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6949 comments I adore Christmas. The carols, time with family, decorating the tree though that doesn't happen till last week, the smell of pine tree throughout the house, and buying presents. On that note just my husband to finish shopping for.

Oh Tracey, that's sad:( Christmas is too expensive, yes, and too commercialized, yes, but the joy and delight on not just the kids faces makes it all worth while!! Such a special family time.

Jessy (snuggleglooms) | 381 comments I must admit I normally love Christmas but I find this chrissy I am having trouble getting excited about it. Were going to the in-laws and as we don't really get along its a tense situation but I do it for my husband. A part of me wished we could just stay home. I am nervous about leaving the house behind as Christmas is peak cyclone time and leaving our cats behind as well. I guess I am in denial mode if I don't think about it its not happening lol

It's a shame when there is a lot of tension within the family, I'm lucky that's never happened with our family:) I hope you enjoy it either way:)

Jessy (snuggleglooms) | 381 comments I married the golden haired boy of the family and I think I have never been forgiven for that. And we got together so young so I have said and did normal 18 year old silliness and old wounds have never been forgiven I think. There has been wrong on both sides and at this point I think there's been to much water under the bridge for there to ever be a relaxed relationship between me and his mother and sister.

Faye (lastchapter) | 409 comments This is the first year, we are being brave. We are actually doing what we want. We asked the kids (who are old enough to make up their mind), teenagers, they said, beach, bbq, home all day. I am being brave and going ahead with this request. See how I go by christmas. We always have a million dramas, every year. This might be the first without a problem. Jessy, do your own thing. This has taken me years to figure out.I don;t think christmas has to be difficult, everyone just makes it difficult.

I do agree.. Christmas sure does get expensive even more so every year. But It is nice to get the family together and just spend time together. Something about that time of the year.

It seems to be commercial for a lot of people. :) But as long as everyone is happy that is the main thing. :)

Not with a real tree, Michael. Dead pine needles everywhere is not fun. We put the nativity scene and a few other decorations up yesterday before visitors came last night. The nativity scene is always what goes up first.Just one of our traditions and we sang carols last night at our small party here with friends.

message 7034: by Tracey (new)

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments Sounds as though most are in line for a fabulous Christmas. I feel for you Jessy - I went through the same drama with my first husband. He was a professional football player and had a wonderful career in front of him, the year we met he was in a terrible accident which left most of the bones in his left leg shattered or broken - he could never play footy again and yet for some reason his family chose to blame me for that instead of the accident. It made Christmas' very rough - especially as I had not celebrated with my family for years at that stage. What my Mum decided to do instead of Christmas was have a family BBQ sometime each year - there was no pressure to buy gifts or decorate but we still got to have the family get-together. I loved it and my sisters and I have continued the tradition although we now meet three times a year with the whole family - a huge BBQ with aunts, uncles and cousins etc and then smaller celebrations consisting of my sisters and myself with all our spouses, kids etc on Mother's Day and Father's Day - we meet for breakfast and everyone brings something for the barbie [I usually bring the bacon ;) ] and spend the whole morning together - it's great fun and if you want to buy something for someone you can but you don't **have** to - this leaves me free to pick things up throughout the year for my sisters and nieces and nephews etc when I see something I think they'd like and I have the money to buy it.

It's an odd way of doing things but it's worked for us for a long time now :)

I remember as a child Dale, we always had a real tree, in a red bucket, with the most divine smell...but as days went by, the pine needles would drop..The getting rid of the tree after the celebrations wasn't fun, but I guess it was less fun for my Dad, who had to get it out of the house, then my poor Mum who had to clean up after it all!! But it was such a wonderful time...great memories:)

message 7037: by Amber (new)

Amber (elfkingdom) | 366 comments We had a real tree about 20 years ago, and one day my brother was sitting in the armchair next to it and caught movement out the corner of his eye. To say he panicked is an understatement. There were hundreds of redbacks making their webs from the rim of the pot to the base of the tree, and from the pot to the chair my brother was sitting on.

I remember clouds of flyspray after that, and the tree was out the back as far as possible from the house, still fully decorated and a thick fog of flyspray filling the loungeroom for hours afterward.

After that incident, everyone in the family has stuck to fake trees :) lol
