Wow, that didn't take you very long, Michelle!

Thanks Bondama! SK is one of the very few authors I trust not to let me down when I try something new, so I can relax when I start reading instead of holding back a little and having to assess whether or not its good.
I tried pacing UTD, reading just half an hour or so, but broke down and did an allnighter near the middle. Am having to use alot of self-restraint right now :)

Surprise surprise. It is the book of the month after all. LOL. :D
I'd read the original version a few years ago but I'm glad to jump into our Dark Tower book of the month selections.

I just read it like a year ago or so, so I remember it well enough to skip it. It is not my favorite in the series. On my second reread of DT I read The Gunslinger last, which was kind of a cool way to do it. Something different anyway...

This is the only book..."
There were a few of the stories that I loved like Pop Art. But for the most part I don't think his short stories compare to his full length stories. I haven't read Horns but I have read Heart-Shaped Box and it was really good. I think all his stories were well written but most of them just didn't strike the cord. I hated the bug boy one. I don't think I finished it. And on the first one 'Best New Horror' I was a little more interested in reading the 'Button Boy' story in the story than the actual story but it was really good.
Hope you like Under the Dome. I loved that book.

And its interesting to finally see where most of the mythology and pop culture stuff on vampires comes from. There were things I didn't even know were parodying Dracula until I started reading it.

I love the book because, as you point out, virtually every pop culture reference to vamps comes originally from this one book. One of the very first movies ever made of "Dracula" was called "Nosferatu" (they couldn't get the rights to the name from Stoker's widow) -- At any rate, "Nosferatu" is one HELL of a scary movie - it's a silent, but I had nightmares for years!

I've never seen Nosferatu although I am a big fan of the Dracula with Gary Oldman (sexy much). On another note, I love the power Dracula has over the wolves. So cool.

Hope to finish the whole series before the movie comes out.
Bondama, ever seen Shadow of the Vampire? It was a pretty cool movie about the filming of Nosferatu.

Chris --I certainly did - the minute I heard it was being made, I couldn't imagine ANYONE but Willem Defoe in the part of Nosferatu!

Thanks Bondama! Do you remember what title was? I might go to the library this week.

Hi, Felina! I'm glad that you're enjoying Dracula. Coincidentally, I recently started to read it for the first time, and I am also surprised by how much I like it. Stoker's writing is amazingly descriptive...and vivid!

Ha ha. I'll try it anyways.

Its really chilling to. When Dracula does his 'lizard' crawl down the castle towers it totally gives me the wigs.

I haven't read these but a quick search turned up two which both got decent reviews on Amazon:
Infamous Lady: The True Story of Countess Erzsébet Báthory
Countess Dracula: Life and Times of Elisabeth Bathory, the Blood Countess

You're welcome. I love 'shopping' for books almost as much as I love reading them :)

Now I am reading The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements.

Oh, I love the Count's lizard crawl!!

Don't you think that might be considered a UTD spoiler? I've never read UTD and had planned to... But now I feel like the ending is pretty much ruined.

And yes, I do think that Nilofer's posting was a Spoiler if I ever saw one. -- But DO read the book anyway, Dawn, it's well worth it.

I was thinking the same thing as I read that post. I know that I would have been pissed off if I would not have just finished reading UTD a couple of months ago.

Nilofer, when you see this, PLEASE remember that when you talk about book plots or main points or details of a book, you need to mark it as a spoiler. This is the second time this morning I've had to "edit" a post of yours for this reason.

This ..."
I haven't read any of Joe Hill's full length works, so unfortunately can't compare. Hope to do so soon, have heard a lot of good things about Horns.
___________UTD SPOILER__________
Finished UTD last week, started slow then took on speed like a runaway train, ending in a crash-bang. Loved the characters, and the ending, but couldn't get my head around the aliens thing, seemed like an easy way out, to explain something inexplicable, like it was "all a dream". Wasn't expecting Barbie to survive so long, I must admit.
________End Spoiler___________
Going to reread Drawing of the Three for the book read this month, introduces so many important themes of the DT world."

I have decided to reread The Gunslinger. It has been revised since the last time I read it. I didn't like it the first time.
