What are you reading right now?
Hey Lisa. I'd be interested in seeing what you think of A Dark Matter. We've been talking about Straub a bit in here lately.
WoW, just finished The Drawing of the Three and absolutely loved it. Gonna have to start reading The Wastelands right away!
OK... I have to share this. King fans should appreciate the reference. :Dhttp://www.bugcomic.com/comics/cats-e...
I'm rereading The Shining at the moment because I love it. Have to go to the library soon though and find some new books. Any recommendations?
Jane --- If you love playing with words, and hilarious love of books, try Jasper Fforde. He's brilliant, funny, and just plain good. Try "The Eyre Affair" or "Lost in a Good Book" (literally lost) -- I know that you'll enjoy him very, very much.

So FUNNY! I'm now following bug comic on Twitter.
I have no idea with which SK to continue. Any ideas? (I've read so far: DT series, IT, THE STAND, DEAD ZONE, PET SEMATARY, ON WRITING, TALISMAN + BLACK HOUSE)
Katniss wrote: "I have no idea with which SK to continue. Any ideas? (I've read so far: DT series, IT, THE STAND, DEAD ZONE, PET SEMATARY, ON WRITING, TALISMAN + BLACK HOUSE)"My next top 3 (in no particular order) would be:
The Shining
Salem's Lot
The Eyes of the Dragon
Hi again Katniss! One more thing...after you finished reading THE SHINING, better see Stanley Kubrick's movie adaptation. Jack Nicholson's portrayal as Jack Torrence is scarrrrrry!!!Be prepared....Here comes Johnny!!!!
Jo, you are in for a treat! I got a friend at work to start reading The Stand this week... it'll be his first Stephen King book.
Chris wrote: "Jo, you are in for a treat! I got a friend at work to start reading The Stand this week... it'll be his first Stephen King book."Absolutely! I'm about to start it for my 3rd read! It just gets better and better! Enjoy! :)
i just finished Broken By Kelley Armstrong and will be starting her next book No Humans Involved soon
The Rose Labyrinth by Titania HardieI'm enjoying this-it's quite interesting although not completely holding my attention. A bit DanBrownesque. Not bad though.
"The Passage" By Justin Cronin and "The Black Angel" by John Connolly.Big fan of Conolly's Charlie Parker series. Liking The Passage so far - about 400 pages in - flipping back and forth on my opinion. Haven't heard good things about the final act of the book..but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Brandon, I loved ALL of The Passage! Even the last part. No complaints here at all!
I just finished a James Patterson book, Run For Your LIfe.I've been putting off reading "The Wind-Up Chronicle" by Haruki Murakami. Because it doesn't look like a page-turner. It looks like it could be more effort. Trying to make up my mind right now, I think I'm gonna dig into this one.
The Wind-Up Chronicle.

Good to hear! I hope I can find some time to finish it up this weekend.
Let's see...The Power, follow-up to The Secret (I am not ashamed). Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. Lit by Mary Karr (though I want to read The Liar's Club first. Should I? Any advice?). Standing in the Rainbow by Fannie Flagg. Now Write! Nonfiction and Now Write! Fiction, both edited by Sherry Ellis. Yeah, 6 books at once. I don't know why, but it works for me. Anyone else out there read (many) more than one book at a time? If so, why?
Alfred wrote: "Got Fragile Things and 20th Century Ghosts on my bookshelf. Can't seem to settle into a novel just now, so maybe time for a short story or two. Also read a few of Darren Shan. Have fun with Lord Loss."Thanks! We've read thru the first 3 books of the Demonata series, my son's finished the fourth, Bec, which I just started tonight. I read the first page of 20th Century Ghosts, and stopped - liked it so much that I froze, thinking it will be over so soon if I rush into it and read it all in one night, as I'm tempted to, so am taking it as slow as I can - silly, huh?
And Steve, about reading more than one book at a time - I'm on four right now, just depends which one I'm in the mood of reading that night
Finally starting The Waste Lands, now that all the big layoffs at work have settled and I am still currently employed.
I just finished The Waste Lands and now I am reading Wizard and Glass. This is my summer reading. I'm not sure I'll make it to book 7 so I'll continue into fall.
I read the Dark Tower series over the summer a couple years ago and it was a project that lasted from May-early October.
I was going to read The Stand directly after finishing The Passage but I didn't want to burn myself out. Therefore, I picked up The Black Angel.
Great, so far.
I'm about to start The Laughing Corpse (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #2) by Laurell K. Hamilton. I'm also reading Who Do I Talk To? by Neta Jackson. And yes, I know I'm strange :-D
Finished Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story and now I have to find out what happens to Lisbeth in The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.
Reading Jonathan Lethem's humorous literary noir Motherless Brooklyn, with features a "detective" with Tourette's syndrome. Well done.Scott Nicholson

I’m currently reading So Cold the River, by Michael Koryta. It feels very much like a Joe Hill book.
Beverly wrote: "I'm about to start The Laughing Corpse (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #2) by Laurell K. Hamilton. Beverly - Up until "Narcissus in Chains" Laurell K. Hamilton was a writer to truly be reckoned with. Sadly, after "Narcissus..." came out, all of her books (with the exception of the Merry Gentry series) are sex, sex, more sex, plot, sex, little plot, and then more sex. She, sadly, has taken her wonderful creation, Anita Blake, and turned her into a hard-core sybarite with nothing but sex on her mind. It damn near broke my heart, because other than the Comte de St. Germain series by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, Hamilton's were my favorite vampire books.
Rowena wrote: "I'm reading It...which is actually one of the best Stephen King books I've red so far."It is my favorite King book. I've read it a couple of times.

Thank you sooooo much for the heads up. I hate it when authors stray from what attracted readers in the first place. I'll also look into the Comte de St. Germain series.

I have a few books from the past that quite literally scared the hell out of me: one of them we'll be reading soon -- "The Haunting of Hill House" -- and one of the others is the Matheson you mentioned, "Hell House" - I read it when it was first published and although I was already good and hooked on horror and sci-fi, I remember thinking that "Hell House" was probably one of the MOST frightening books I EVER read!
