Michelle | 47 comments I just got a Kindle for my birthday ... love it. I found a site wowio.com where I recently got Brian Freemsn's book The Painted Darkness. I had no problems putting this book on my Kindle and the book is great so far. Reminds me a little of Duma Key.

Erica (bookpsycho) | 109 comments Am still trying to read "The Child Thief" and just finished "The Haunted Vagina". Wierd premise, great book.

Scott | 401 comments I finished Horns on Friday. What a great book. I thought it was better than Heart-Shaped Box.

Now I started The Synthesis.

message 256: by Nilofer (new)

Nilofer (nilofers) | 84 comments Finished 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill, The Ragwitch by Garth Nix, one of my fav authors, and the first Sookie Stackhouse novel by Charlaine Harris, which was quite a page-turner, but maybe too much sex vs. plot for me. Planning to get her next book, but after I read Under the dome which I got recently. I was intimidated by its size, knowing once I start I'd want to read it all at once, which would seriously screw up my life :) so had been holding off. And not to mention picking up Gunslinger too, for a refresher.

Better than Heart-Shaped Box? I loved Heart-Shaped Box. I'll have to move Horns up the TBR pile.

message 258: by Felina (new)

Felina Nilofer - What did you think of 20th Century Ghosts? I'm currently reading it and while I'm loving the writing some of the abrupt endings are getting to me.

That is a good choice to start with. Neverwhere is a great book. If you end up liking that, try American Gods, my personal favorite by Gaiman.

It and Swan Song plus rest of Dark tower series are books I have been saving to read at a special time lol. I think now it's been too many years that I have been putting it off and need to start reading them.

message 276: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Hello, Lou!

message 278: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments I've been on a round of Polish lit -- recommended by Maciek - the book I'm currently "living in" - is called "Miss Nobody"- it's a coming of age book, but so vividly imagined and voiced so impeccably I can't seem to get into reading anything else until I finish it.

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 64 comments Right now I'm listening to the audio version of Duma Key, and I absolutely love it so far. Next up I'll be reading The Drawing of the Three.

★ Jess | 49 comments Insomnia -page 596

I loved this, thinking it to be a 4.5 star book. But I have hated the majority of the last 100 pages.
As of (SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS: the part just after the women-care house shooting by Charlie Pickering. When Ralph and Lois go off with Old Dor, the book totally slipped away from me then.) END SPOILERS

Nilofer (nilofers) | 84 comments Felina wrote: "Nilofer - What did you think of 20th Century Ghosts? I'm currently reading it and while I'm loving the writing some of the abrupt endings are getting to me."

This is the only book of his that I've read, so his style was new to me. Yes, I did find most of his endings quite abrupt, like in the story about the boy turning into an insect, Pop Art, (which was my favourite, what an amazing story!) and My Father's Mask. He leaves alot up to the reader to work out, giving bits and pieces here and there, which I liked, but sometimes it felt like there needed to be more to the story, that it ended kindof mid-sentance, so to speak.

What did you think of it? The first story just hit me like a brick wall, it was such a shocker of a tale. I have thought about them quite a bit, once I finished the lot, which has to be the mark of a great writer.

I just started reading The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow yesterday ... almost immediately after finishing The Fall.

message 294: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Dustin, I was a bit disappointed by "The Fall", particularly as compared to "The Strain" -- middle books of a trilogy often do suffer from the comparison, as their primary object is just to keep the story going, but overall, I did enjoy it enough to keep anxiously waiting for the last one.

Hi Michael,

The Waste Lands was my favorite book of the series. You have so much more good reading to look forward to though ... enjoy!

message 297: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Nilofer - I just wanted to thank you for putting an indefinable feeling into just the right words. There is absolutely no feeling in the world better than to curl up to a fire, raining outside, with a brand new, never read Stephen King book to start to read. My idea of heaven, nirvana, the Summerlands, whatever one wishes to call it. Just perfect.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments OMG I finally finished The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters. Took me near 3 wks and that's the longest it has ever taken me to read one book. The action picked up in the second half, and it actually got interesting (though not awesome, or even great). I think I'm going to read Night Shift next, I need something a little more bite-sized :)
