Dustin, how are you liking A Thousand Splendid Suns? I thought it was amazing. I just finished Mockingjay, which most definitely was NOT amazing. Booo! :(
Hi, Becky. Thank you for your comment. I've heard a lot of good things about Mockingjay, so I am surprised you didn't enjoy it.So far, A Thousand Splendid Suns has been an amazing read. For the most part, I really like Khaled's writing!
Dustin wrote: "Have you read The Kite Runner?"Yes... I read The Kite Runner first and loved it, but I loved Suns even more.
Mockingjay... Well, I liked the dystopian aspects, but I didn't like how the characters were portrayed. So much seemed out of character from the first books. I'm sure that I'm in the minority in not liking it though.
A Thousand Splendid Suns is a million times better than The Kite Runner and I thought very highly of the Kite Runner as well.
From what I've read so far (p.268,) A Thousand Splendid Suns is more enjoyable that The Kite Runner.
Chris wrote: "I liked Mockingjay, just not as well as the first two books."I was bummed by the way Mockingjay went. After Catching Fire it felt like a let down, especially the ending. Can't win them all I suppose.
Dustin wrote: "Scott - are you sure you don't want to start W&G!?!"I want to but I have a couple of library books that came available for my Nook so I need to read those first.
Although I've been reading Stephen King for years, I had never gotten round to reading the Shining - until now. I am enjoying every minute of the book and I have really no idea why I didn't tackle it before.
Jc11king wrote: "Fahrenheit 451"Instead of reading this, I'll first read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
I am finishing off books I have bookmarks in!She by H. Rider Haggard
Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel
Delver Magic Book I: Sanctum's Breach by Jeff Inlo
The Gates of Rome by Conn Iggulden
Maciek, that made me laugh SO hard! Im reading Specials-the final book in the Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. Next I am going to read something from The Bachman Books
I am in the middle of The Waste Lands
. So far, the best in the series. It really takes me out of this world. I wish I didn't have anything to do but read....
Finally starting my re-read of Duma Key, eagerly anticipating Christmas because I know I'm getting
and
. Man I can't wait lol, I feel like a kid. :)
I finished A Thousand Splendid Suns! I'm not sure what I'll be reading next, it's a toss-up between Alice McDermott's Charming Billy and re-reading To Kill A Mockingbird.
I decided to go with Charming Billy. So far, it's a little slow. But it has piqued my interest, and I think the pace will pick up fairly shortly!Has anyone read it?
Kit, I'm hoping to get Full Dark, No Stars for Christmas, too! I feel like a kid again...I'm so excited wishing for it!
You'll love it - One of my favorite King works. It's darker than any thing he has written. "1922" is my favorite of the 4 novellas. Enjoy!
I am reading a non King book Delver Magic Book I: Sanctum's Breach by Jeff Inlo. I am really enjoying it and have the others in the series too all on my ereader and downloaded free from manybooks.net.
Erica wrote: "I am now reading "Full Dark, No Stars". I am trying to take my time with it, but it is very hard."I am saving that for the new year when I have to work my night shift again on New Years Eve.
Just finished Duma Key, now I'm going to finish checking my email, then it's on to Full Dark, No Stars. Yay :)
Yes, I did. Edgar was great, and Wireman, and Libbit and the paintings, oh I wanted to see them! Big Pink reminded me of an R.L. Stine story about a beach house that scared the crap out of me when I was in 5th grade... I wanted more details though, the end came too soon lol
Duma made it instantly into my favorites short list... I listened to the audio, and it was amazing. John Slattery did a wonderful job with it. I'm going to listen again at some point this year. It's so good.
I finished The Innocent and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass.Now I started Wizard and Glass.
I finished The Stand and I started Outlander and The Bone Woman: A Forensic Anthropologist's Search for Truth in the Mass Graves of Rwanda, Bosnia, Croatia, and Kosovo. Love both of them so far.
I just finished the Dark Tower series for the first time. It took from July until December. I loved all the books. I wanted to dive right into my next Stephen King book but I also enjoy reading other authors, even though Stephen King is my favorite author. So, I'm taking a break and that just makes my next King read sweeter. I'm reading a book on teaching writing to children by the guru of children's writing, Lucy Calkins and I'm also reading a short story by Alice Munro and listening to an audio book by Meg Cabot in the car. Happy New Year and Happy Reading to one and all!
I've also started to re-read To Kill A Mockingbird...I am trying to take it slow, so that I'll get as much out of it as possible (re-reads should be taken at a much slower pace, anyway, IMO.)
Kit wrote: "Finished FDNS, oh wow, I loved it!Now I'm onto
, and I'm sure it'll go quick."oooh enjoy 20thCG!
I am reading Wolf Hall, Dry Season, Doctor At Large, The Little Stranger and House of Reckoning: A Novel
BonFire wrote: "I just started reading
, which is pretty good so far. I was glad to read he was scared by The Blair Witch Project. It gets a lot of crap which I don't think it dese..."That movie scared me so bad it change me.
Felina wrote: "I'm reading The Passage. Very good so far. I've heard a lot of people comparing it to The Stand. Which means I'll probably be reading The Stand next."I loved The Passage but The Stand is a thousand times better in my opinion.
Finished 20th Century Ghosts and it was 5 stars for sure! Loved it.Then I read
just finished it a few minutes ago, and I was hooked from the beginning. It was really good. Well, the stuff that happened to the characters wasn't all good, but the book was good :) I also liked this one tiny part where it mentioned Haven and Derry being up the road. I was like "woo! Derry!" lolNot sure what I'm going to read next, debating between
,
and
.
