Dustin A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini!

message 454: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments I finished The Waste Lands earlier today.

On the way home I'm going to start The Graveyard Book.

message 456: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Scott - are you sure you don't want to start W&G!?!

message 457: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Dustin, how are you liking A Thousand Splendid Suns? I thought it was amazing.

I just finished Mockingjay, which most definitely was NOT amazing. Booo! :(

message 458: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Hi, Becky. Thank you for your comment. I've heard a lot of good things about Mockingjay, so I am surprised you didn't enjoy it.

So far, A Thousand Splendid Suns has been an amazing read. For the most part, I really like Khaled's writing!

message 459: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Have you read The Kite Runner?

message 460: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Dustin wrote: "Have you read The Kite Runner?"

Yes... I read The Kite Runner first and loved it, but I loved Suns even more.

Mockingjay... Well, I liked the dystopian aspects, but I didn't like how the characters were portrayed. So much seemed out of character from the first books. I'm sure that I'm in the minority in not liking it though.

I liked Mockingjay, just not as well as the first two books.

message 462: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments A Thousand Splendid Suns is a million times better than The Kite Runner and I thought very highly of the Kite Runner as well.

message 463: by Dustin (new)

Dustin From what I've read so far (p.268,) A Thousand Splendid Suns is more enjoyable that The Kite Runner.

I was bummed by the way Mockingjay went. After Catching Fire it felt like a let down, especially the ending. Can't win them all I suppose.

Jc11king | 103 comments I've read the Kite Runner, and I loved it.

Still haven't read ATS Suns, even though I have it.

Scott | 401 comments Dustin wrote: "Scott - are you sure you don't want to start W&G!?!"

I want to but I have a couple of library books that came available for my Nook so I need to read those first.

message 467: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Oh, okay, Scott.

message 468: by Morris (new)

Morris (maciomhair) | 1 comments Although I've been reading Stephen King for years, I had never gotten round to reading the Shining - until now. I am enjoying every minute of the book and I have really no idea why I didn't tackle it before.

message 469: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) The Shining is one of my FAVORITE books... I love it.

★ Jess | 49 comments Maciek, that made me laugh SO hard!

Im reading Specials-the final book in the Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. Next I am going to read something from The Bachman Books

message 474: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Hi, Booklover! You should read The Backman Books in its entirety, IMO!

message 475: by Elena (last edited Dec 21, 2010 02:11PM) (new)

Elena | 50 comments I am in the middle of The Waste Lands The Waste Lands (The Dark Tower, #3) by Stephen King . So far, the best in the series. It really takes me out of this world. I wish I didn't have anything to do but read....

message 476: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments I just finished The Graveyard Book. It was excellent.

Now I am reading The Innocent.

message 477: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Hi, Elena! I'm glad you're thoroughly enjoying The Waste Lands!!

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments Finally starting my re-read of Duma Key, eagerly anticipating Christmas because I know I'm getting Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King and 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill . Man I can't wait lol, I feel like a kid. :)

message 479: by Dustin (new)

Dustin AWESOME!

message 480: by Dustin (last edited Dec 24, 2010 10:30AM) (new)

Dustin I finished A Thousand Splendid Suns! I'm not sure what I'll be reading next, it's a toss-up between Alice McDermott's Charming Billy and re-reading To Kill A Mockingbird.

message 481: by Dustin (new)

Dustin I decided to go with Charming Billy. So far, it's a little slow. But it has piqued my interest, and I think the pace will pick up fairly shortly!
Has anyone read it?

message 482: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) | 64 comments Kit, I'm hoping to get Full Dark, No Stars for Christmas, too! I feel like a kid again...I'm so excited wishing for it!

message 483: by Chuck (new)

Chuck You'll love it - One of my favorite King works. It's darker than any thing he has written. "1922" is my favorite of the 4 novellas. Enjoy!

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) I am reading a non King book Delver Magic Book I: Sanctum's Breach by Jeff Inlo. I am really enjoying it and have the others in the series too all on my ereader and downloaded free from manybooks.net.

message 485: by Erica (new)

Erica (bookpsycho) | 109 comments I am now reading "Full Dark, No Stars". I am trying to take my time with it, but it is very hard.

I am saving that for the new year when I have to work my night shift again on New Years Eve.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments Just finished Duma Key, now I'm going to finish checking my email, then it's on to Full Dark, No Stars. Yay :)

message 488: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Did you love Duma?

message 489: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments Yes, I did. Edgar was great, and Wireman, and Libbit and the paintings, oh I wanted to see them! Big Pink reminded me of an R.L. Stine story about a beach house that scared the crap out of me when I was in 5th grade... I wanted more details though, the end came too soon lol

message 490: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Duma made it instantly into my favorites short list... I listened to the audio, and it was amazing. John Slattery did a wonderful job with it. I'm going to listen again at some point this year. It's so good.

message 493: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (chkntza) I just finished the Dark Tower series for the first time. It took from July until December. I loved all the books. I wanted to dive right into my next Stephen King book but I also enjoy reading other authors, even though Stephen King is my favorite author. So, I'm taking a break and that just makes my next King read sweeter. I'm reading a book on teaching writing to children by the guru of children's writing, Lucy Calkins and I'm also reading a short story by Alice Munro and listening to an audio book by Meg Cabot in the car. Happy New Year and Happy Reading to one and all!

message 494: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments Finished FDNS, oh wow, I loved it!
Now I'm onto 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill , and I'm sure it'll go quick.

message 495: by Dustin (last edited Jan 01, 2011 05:15PM) (new)

Dustin I've also started to re-read To Kill A Mockingbird...I am trying to take it slow, so that I'll get as much out of it as possible (re-reads should be taken at a much slower pace, anyway, IMO.)

I loved The Passage but The Stand is a thousand times better in my opinion.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments Finished 20th Century Ghosts and it was 5 stars for sure! Loved it.
Then I read The TRAP by Tabitha King just finished it a few minutes ago, and I was hooked from the beginning. It was really good. Well, the stuff that happened to the characters wasn't all good, but the book was good :) I also liked this one tiny part where it mentioned Haven and Derry being up the road. I was like "woo! Derry!" lol
Not sure what I'm going to read next, debating between Different Seasons by Stephen King , The Colorado Kid (Hard Case Crime, #13) by Stephen King and The Shining by Stephen King .
