You really liked Heart-Shaped Box ? I had a really hard time getting through that for some reason. I even ended up putting it down for a little while. Maybe its just me, because my friend that borrowed it raved about it.

Christine Hello all:

I am new to this group but wanted to post that I am reading the new Bentley Little book "The Disappearance". Just got it yesterday. It's starting out pretty good. Do any of you like Bentley Little?? He is one of my favorites besides Stephen King.

I read The Revelation by Bentley Little a couple months ago and I have The Return by Bentley Little and another one, can't remember what it's called, on my to-read shelf, I liked The Revelation, it was a quick paced story, and not too bad, though a little gross at times...

message 405: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments I finished The Drawing of the Three last night. This was much better than the first book so I will continue to read the series.

Now I have to finish 20th Century Ghost before the library takes takes it from my Nook.

message 406: by Brandon (new)

Brandon (brandonsears) Just finished Penny Dreadful. It was incredible, one of the best books I've read so far this year. Starting Hell's Half Acre tonight.

I have nothing really lined up after that, most of the books on my "to-read" list are not in my possession at the moment. Gotta pick some stuff up.

message 407: by Roberto (new)

Roberto Guzman (ciryus) | 2 comments Hi everyone, I am new on the group and I am currently reading The Fall and The Waste Lands
I so cool that I just joined the group and I saw that you all are also reading the Wasted Lands : D

message 408: by Jeff (new)

Jeff | 32 comments I got burned out on the books I was reading and took some time off, but just picked Under the Dome back up. I'm having a love/hate relationship with it, at times I can't put it down and other times I'm bored/disgusted with the story and I don't feel like reading it anymore. I hope the book ends well, I'd hate to have read a book this long just to be disappointed in the ending.

message 409: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 47 comments i just finished FDNS this afternoon and I think I'm going to read Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne and then go back to Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons.

Jennifer (jagerjenn_19) | 5 comments Jeff, I'm reading Under the Dome right now. I really like it, but there are parts that are making me mad. I have been tempted to put it down and read something else, but I haven't yet. I think it will end well.

Good evening, Michelle!! It's good to know that you finished FDNS!!

message 415: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading a book called Summer of secrets by Richie Tankersley Cusick.
It's from a collection called Point Horror, you've probably heard of them. Cool little books by loads of different authors.
I've almost finished it, they're like 150-250 pages long in each book and you normally read them in a day to 2. They're great books if you just want a quick burst of horror, that's kinda teenager-ish and fun to read.
I enjoy them.

message 417: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments I'm reading The Passage by Justin Cronin

message 418: by Dustin (new)

Dustin The Passage is a wonderful read, IMO! Are you enjoying it so far, Rachel?

As for me, I'm slowly making my way through Beloved, and I am also reading A Thousand Slendid Suns.

message 419: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments I'm enjoying it slowly I guess.

message 420: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Cool. I hope you love it as much as I (and everyone else) did!

message 421: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Not quite everyone, Dustin....

message 422: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Okay, not quite everyone... Bondama-did you not simply "love it," or did it just seem "okay"?

message 423: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments Oh I can't decide! I'm debating between either reading The Trap by Tabitha King which is easily accessible on my bookshelf, or going down to the basement and searching through my boxes for either Duma Key or something else as yet undecided....

message 424: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments I didn't dislike it, Dustin - it was a readable book - I simply have read so many apocalyptic novels that were really, really good - "The Stand", "Canticle for Liebowitz," - "The Swan," "A Boy and His Dog," - and several others, that I felt that "The Passage" was a lesser book, one that couldn't compare to these others in terms of quality and imagination.

message 425: by Chris (new)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 119 comments Thought I would throw my hat in and say I am starting The Drawing of the Three tonight. I am really looking forward to getting into book two of the Dark Tower Series since this is my first time reading it. I also hope to finish this and start book three before the monthly discussion group is over. Happy reading every one.

Oh, okay. Do you think you'd read the follow-up to The Passage? I, for one, am really looking forward to knowing which direction(s) the story will take.

Btw, I also love The Stand!

message 429: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments So I put off reading Duma Key (again) and decided to go with Kushiel's Dart (Kushiel's Legacy, #1) by Jacqueline Carey which is a challenge read in another group I'm in.

message 430: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Probably I will, Dustin - I won't BUY it, understand, but I will read it, because I will always read virtually ANYTHING of quality I can get my hands on!

I knew you loved "The Stand" - but you really should try some of the other books I mentioned. Each, in their own way, is every bit as memorable as "The Stand" (well....mostly so!)

message 431: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (slipsplash) So, I am working my way through the short stories in Four Past Midnight (I just finished the Langoliers), while simultaneously reading The Wolves of the Calla.

Okay. Thank you, Bondama. What's A Canticle for Leibowitz like? I've been curious about that one for a long time...

message 438: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Dustin --- You really ought to call Tech Support about your computer stutter.......:)

Anyway -- "A Canticle for Liebowitz" is a post-apocalyptic book, after the Big Bomb (or whatever has wiped out most of civilization. While on a fast in the (I think Utah) desert, a priest comes across some of the Old Knowledge (from before -) He agonizes over whether or not to spread this knowledge will simply start the same cycle over again -- I know I'm making it sound boring, and I don't mean to, because it's a book that meant a tremendous amount to me (and to others -- This book won the Hugo Award the year it was published. But you really owe it to yourself to read this one, and "A Boy and His Dog" -another Hugo winner - it's actually a novella, and it's by one of my BIG time (and SK's BIG time favorite writers) - Harlan Ellison. If you don't know him, he wrote the one and only original "Star Trek" episode to win an Emmy. He's absolutely brilliant.

message 439: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer I started listening to Dracula this morning on the way to work and am also finishing up The Cries Of Vampira which I won from Goodreads. :)

I know, my computer isn't the best, but I am grateful for what I have...

Anyway, I will definitely look into A Canticle For Liebowitz. I appreciate your input. Speaking of Sai King, didn't he recommend "A Canticle" in On Writing? I think it's in there. Btw, I have heard of Harlan Ellison, and knew that I wrote an episode for the original Star Trek. I did not realize that he wrote a novella, though.

Have a great day!!
