Christine (christine007) | 28 comments I'm reading The Passage and American Gods. Not so much with the American Gods (I like it but I'm not in love with it) but so far The Passage is rocking my world!

message 152: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments I just finished The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest and now it's on to Dracula.

message 153: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (chkntza) I read Dracula this summer. It was great. I loved the story and the writing. Enjoy!

Nathalie (natjen29) Felina wrote: "Heart Shaped Box?"

Yeah that one. I'm reading it in Dutch and I confused the title. Literally translated from Dutch it would be Black Heart, I guess I got a bit confused.
It was splendid though!

Now I've moved on to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

This has been recommended to me before, but sometimes books get on my wishlist and tend to get forgotten. Thanks for the reminder!

Nathalie (natjen29) Rowena wrote: "I'm reading It...which is actually one of the best Stephen King books I've red so far."

One of the classic King novels. Not my favourite perse but still worth the effort. Read it twice already.

The passage didn't do it for me. Sloppy writing and he couldn't hold my attention once you get past the first quarter of the book.

Both excellent in my opinion. I loved Dracula. My pocket is almost read to shreds.

message 159: by Marina (new)

Marina (moonshine3991) | 1 comments I'm reading two books at same time... "Dark Tower - Wizard and Glass" and - for school - "O Filho Eterno" (Eternal Son) in Brazilian portuguese.
The Dark Tower series is the best thing I've ever read!!! But the other book is quite annoying...

message 160: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) Inspired by Danse Macabre, I'm now reading Lovecraft Tales. I'm already familiar with some of his more famous stories (The Dunwich Horror (my favorite), Rats In The Walls), but I forgot how florid his language is. It's hard to concentrate!

message 162: by Michael (new)

Michael | 6 comments the dark tower series and the stand(novel) graphic novels, diggin both

message 163: by Craig (new)

Craig Stratton | 9 comments Hearts In Atlantis. So far, its confirming my belief that King is just as talented writing stories that are not tradionally horror stories. Can't wait to finish it and start reading From A Buick 8.

message 164: by Jill (new)

Jill (bushbark) | 16 comments Just finished The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón as recommended by Mr King and I loved it.

message 165: by Holly (new)

Holly | 434 comments I'm reading The Firm by John Grisham

message 166: by Becky (last edited Sep 05, 2010 09:39PM) (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I just started reading The Haunting of Hill House... I'm only about 10 pages in, and so far I'm liking it, though it does remind me of Rose Red... (No doubt because RR was based on i, I'm guessing. LOL)

I can't wait to see where it goes.

message 167: by Steven (new)

Steven Belanger | 53 comments Just finished John Updike's Pigeon Feathers and Other Stories for a grad class. Very well-written, a bit misogynistic. Tends to catch the wispy nostalgic and the occasional True Life Moment very well. Great style.

message 168: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments I finished Dracula and this morning I started Island of the Sequined Love Nun. I need a light read before I start Under the Dome.

message 169: by Josh (new)

Josh (Edgecrusher) | 2 comments I'm reading IT and I love it. Next up after that is The Exorcist then The Long Walk.

message 170: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) The House Next Door, another book mentioned by SK in Danse Macabre.

message 171: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments Since last Friday, I have finished The Lathe of Heaven and Crown of Shadows, now rereading Heart-Shaped Box, still digging it the second time around.

message 172: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments Mary wrote: "The House Next Door, another book mentioned by SK in Danse Macabre."

Thanks for reminding me, I've been wanting to read this book since I read about it in Danse Macabre. Are you enjoying it?

message 173: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments I read part of The Long Walk on a boring Sunday at my old job in 6 hours. Kinda messed with my head.

message 174: by Alejandra (new)

Alejandra | 3 comments Rachel wrote: "I read part of The Long Walk on a boring Sunday at my old job in 6 hours. Kinda messed with my head."

I read some of the Bachman books--Rage, The Long Walk, Roadwork, and The Running Man--and found them enthralling. The Long Walk--in my opinion--has some of the most disturbing aspects of human psych.

If you liked that I recommend you read the other ones. ^_^

message 175: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments I read "The Long Walk" so long ago, but it blew me away so intensely that after I'd finished, I turned around and re-read it right away. And although I love to re-read, it's a rare book (or novella) that commands me to read it again immediately.

message 177: by Anna (new)

Anna | 64 comments I'm finishing up the Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, and then continue reading Dantes Club by Matthew Pearl.

I like to read 2 books at a time so once I'm done with one of the above I'll pick up another one...probably a SK book :)

Anna | 64 comments Booklover23 wrote: "Angels & Demons by Dan Brown"

This is my favorite from Dan Brown so far...I didn't enjoy the movie as much since it was so different than the book!

message 179: by Nicoletta (new)

Nicoletta Daum (daum9812) Currently reading Under the Dome!

message 180: by Erica (new)

Erica (bookpsycho) | 109 comments I am now reading The Elementals by Michael McDowell.

message 181: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I have just started reading The House of Spirits by Isabel Allende. Only 4 pgs in, but it's interesting so far!

message 182: by Christine (new)

Christine (christine007) | 28 comments Anna-the Uglies is probably one of my favorite books; how do you like it?

message 183: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Becky, I have a really close friend who shares a house w/ Isabel Allende in CA. I'm sure you know that Isabel's Uncle was the Head of State assassinated by the CIA..

message 184: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I did not know that, Bondama. That's crazy! I don't know anything about Allende at all, actually - the book that I'm reading was sent to me by a friend. I've never really thought that her books were my style, being magical realism (which I generally don't like), although I'm liking this so far.

message 185: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments She is a magnificent person, and even better writer - Actually, "House of Spirits" is the only magical realism that she wrote. Her Uncle, Salvador Allende, was the elected (but Leftist) leader of Chile when the CIA decide that he should disappear -- true story, they even admit to it now (apologize, that is!!)

message 186: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Very interesting!

message 187: by Felina (new)

Felina Because I'm crazy I just started The Stand during my lunch break which is adding a million pages to the already toppling pile of books I've committed to in the next few months. Its good things are slowing down here at the end of the summer.

message 188: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Nothing wrong with that, Felina. LOL I've committed to re-read the Dark Tower series on top of the ridiculous amount of reading that I have to do this month already.

I have 5 books that I need to read for Jackie's blog activity, The House of Spirits (which I just started, which is another Jackie book) and Everything's Eventual, so that I can read The Little Sisters of Eluria. Not to mention that I have 8 books that I have for review on my own blog that I need to read. LOL

message 189: by Felina (new)

Felina Yes but you can read 10 books in the same amount of time that it takes me to write my name at the top of the page. See...you just finished a book.

And another...

And another

message 190: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Not true. I've only finished one in that time!

message 191: by Felina (new)

Felina And another.

message 192: by Brandon (new)

Brandon (brandonsears) Finally picked up The Stand. Not sure why I waited so long - about 200 pages in and loving it.

message 193: by Erick (new)

Erick Burnham | 42 comments I am listening to Horns by Joe Hill by Joe Hill Joe Hill. I really like it and I have no idea how it is going to end. I listen to it in the car and I often sit in the parking lot at work so I can get a little further along.

Scott | 401 comments I'm going to start Under the Dome by Stephen King on the way home.

It is my favorite King book. I've read it a couple of times."

agreed. I love that book, but i haven't finished the dark tower series yet

message 197: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) I plucked my vintage copy of Night Shift off the bookshelf this morning, even though I'm reading 2 other books. SK is an addiction, I need a fix every month or so! All the kudzu vine everywhere made me think of the story "Gray Matter", is what happened.

I hope you enjoy it. I have found "Joe" to be, perhaps, even a little more twisted than his father.

I don't think MORE twisted, just twisted in different ways. :P
