Caleb (ccp981) Sounds like fun, I will have to think about what track to go with...I like challenges! (Just wish that I could finish one...lol!)

Yep that is what I meant exactly!!! I don't want to not read a book cos it doesn't fit

message 56: by Mojca (new)

Mojca | 1414 comments A helluva challenge, Yz. Pity we can't use both relays in one track, though.
I'm most certainly in.

Example of a chain: Kresley Cole; Rebecca York; Angela Knight; Tessa Dare; Elizabeth Lowell"

So that would man we can use the same author over and over again, since the first letters of the name and surname are the same.
Example: Lisa Kleypas, Lisa Kleypas, Lisa Kleypas...etc.

message 58: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments its the last letter of either the first or last name...so if you read one by Lisa Kleypas, then you could read an author starting with A or S for your next book...make sense?

message 59: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments another quick question...if I am doing a track 1 and a track 2 can I have two books goign simultaneously? since you can only count a book for a single track

Didn't see the "last letter only" part. Thanks, Dee.

I think you're right and we can do it that way. I was still half sleeping this morning :)

2. Blood and Chocolate by by Annette Curtis Klause (288 pages) 07/21 - 07/25

AND

TRACK TWO:
Title Relay
1. Moon Called (2 words) by Patricia Briggs (292 pages) 07/15 - 07/20
2. Blood and Chocolate (3 words) by by Annette Curtis Klause (288 pages) 07/21 - 07/25
3.

I'd have to pick and choose, right?"

I'm wondering the same thing, Kristi, since the rules state that "Books read can be used in other challenges outside of this tournament but not within the same track.".
Since we can do two tracks at the same time we're allowed to have the same book in two tracks?

Yep, you can take breaks between your books. You can disappear, come back, pick up your track, and continue. I will simply total your points for whatever books you have listed in your tracks when the tournament ends.

Good question. I have to think about this.

I've edited my first post, and I will go with you have to pick and choose. You can only use a book once for this tournament, so you have to decide which track you are putting it in.

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Michelle wrote: I just have to remember to post prior to reading. You can switch between your two threads and back again as many times as you like? Books over 400 pages get you extra points. Can you read 2 books at a time ONLY if one is from each thread? (I very rarely do this but just incase!).

I will not be very strict about posting before reading, but I will like to see start date and end date, to make sure there is no overlapping. Due to the consecutive and cumulative nature of the tournament, you will be reading at maximum only two books at a time for this challenge.

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Michelle wrote: And you have to choose:

That is correct. One Relay from each Track. You can change midstream if you like. If you do so, I will get your total score from the earlier Track, then your new track will start from 5 pts going up again. Makes sense?

Would be ideal, but I will not be strict about it, as long as start and finish dates are shown and do not overlap.

Mojca | 1414 comments Question about the Title Relay...

If a title is hyphenated, how to we count the words?

For example: Able-Bodied by Karen Foley. Do we count one or two words?

Should we be anal or practical?

I would count it as one, personally. But I will go for practical, rather than anal. : ) So if the poster really needs to get creative, will I really make a big deal if it is counted two instead of one? Probably not. : )

Thanks, I was just checking my books, saw a few hyphenated title, and needed to be sure.

Mojca | 1414 comments Another Tile Relay question...

How do we count words in titles like Death Angel: A Novel or The Intern Affair: Dynasties: The Elliotts?
Personally I'd go with just the title, but for those more creative ones? ;)

I think I answered a similar question in msg#24. I say its up for the poster.

Although (A Novel) for Death Angel is not part of the title nor a subtitle, so that should not count.

message 74: by Dina (new)

Dina (missdina) | 807 comments I read Agatha Christie's entire backlist in Portuguese in my teens and I've always wanted to reread her books in English. This tournament will give me the push I need, as long as I can fit that in Track One - Author Relay. Since Agatha starts and ends with the letter 'a', will it be OK to use her books one after the other? Different books, same author. :)

message 76: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 4260 comments Yz, the "A Novel" is an import from Amazon, (I think publishers think it looks impressive?), us librarians usually go out of our way to remove it, and so Death Angel is now free to fly.

LooLoo Wow Yz this challenge is pretty amazing. You are so creative.

I'm considering this but have a question and I hope it hasn't been asked. For the author relay what if the author's first name is only initials? Like G.A. Aikens or L.J. McDonald and so on. Can we use one of the initials for the next one or are we stuck using only the last letter in the last name?

Great question, Looloo. I will include the second letter in the initials.

message 88: by Wallace (new)

Wallace I'm not fully understanding the point system. I get that books are 5pt more each level you go up (unless the book is more than 400 and then we add 5 pts).

But how do we get to the point that the fourth book is between 30-50 pts?

Good question. Let me make my explanation clearer.

First books 5 pts - Total 5 pts
2nd book 10 pts - Total 15 pts
3rd book 15 pts - Total 30 pts
4th book 20 pts - Total 50 pts
5th book 25 pts - Total 75 pts

and so on and so forth...

Let me know if its still confusing.

Barbara ★ | 3901 comments Yz,
Since this challenge lasts for 6 months, if we do both tracks all the books aren't going to fit in one post. Should we do a post for each track? See Photojim's #9 and #10 posts.

LOL....You can take two posts ahead of time or if your list won't fit later in the game, just pm me, and I will total what you have, and you can start a new one.

Whichever works. But I have a feeling the fast ones will definitely need two posts. : )

message 94: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ | 3901 comments Yz, I know we can't read little books like novellas and graphic novels but what is the lowest page number we can read? And does an anthology count since it his a bunch of novellas? And ebooks, most are very short, can we count these?

I was thinking anything that has less than 100 pages should not be included in this tournament. I would leave it to the participants's sense of fairness since I will not be checking how many pages each book that they post have.

I would count anthologies as a complete book. eBooks usually have a page count, so I'm going to stick to the 100-pages or more, to qualify for the tournament.

southpaw285 | 588 comments I'm really wanting to do this challenge but am stuck on which one I want to do. There is no question of me doing two because I just don't have the time.

I really want to do Track One, Word Relay, so I went to my TBR and started trying to put a list together, thinking it would be relatively easy...wrong!

I ran into a couple of problems:
(1)I will probably have to read series books out of order - *shudder* or (2) I will probably have to add new books to my TBR.

So now...I'm not sure what to do.

message 99: by Dina (new)

Dina (missdina) | 807 comments southpaw, how about doing Track Two, Copyright Year Relay? That can go up and down (2010, 2009, 2010, 2009, ...) all the time and zoom through your TBR fairly quickly.

message 100: by southpaw285 (new)

southpaw285 | 588 comments Yeah, Dina, I'm really thinking about that one. I really want to do something with my "mole hill" of a TBR pile. I say "mole hill" in comparison to Shawna's "6,000+ Mountzilla"...lol
