you have to go in an order that fits the rules. But you can rearrange the order you read and list them if they still fit the rules. Like I have several books with the word Game in the title. I can read and list them in any order I want. But with the author name one they have to listed in the order that they connect to each other.
Any chance we can get the participants thread stickied? Since we are editing our entries instead of adding new it will keep falling off the front page.
If we are reading an anthology in Author track is it only the main author we can use or can we link from any of the authors? Just incase it comes up, I'm starting one for my title relay the now and just wondered. :)
I'm holding for an answer to Michelle question. For my author string, I finish a book by Robyn Donald. The book I was thinking of reading is Invitations To Seduction by Vicki Lewis Thompson, Carly Phillips, and Janelle Denison. The Denison portion of the anthology would certainly qualify but Thompson is the author that comes up as main. Ruling?
Michelle and Photojim,I have to think about this one. : )
For anthologies, the whole book must be read. If that is done, you can use any of the authors featured in the anthology.
Photojim wrote: "Yz, Of course I read the whole book (even those naughty parts)."LOL!
The reason I said that because there are some people who only pick the novella/s they like in an anthology.
I saw in an earlier post you said they counted only if the whole thing was read so that's more than ok. I just wasn't sure on the author, helps open up a lot of possibilities though! I wouldn't count it if I wasn't reading it all, I'd only be cheating myself :)
Michelle wrote: "I saw in an earlier post you said they counted only if the whole thing was read so that's more than ok. I just wasn't sure on the author, helps open up a lot of possibilities though! Gah--I hate my computer not working right. Steph--if you think the 1978 up to 2009 is good--for MINE I have 1951 to 2002, and, making it even better--they are ALL BY THE SAME AUTHOR. ;oP
What about just initials for some names - like J.R. Ward and L.J. Smith? How would it work? Could you read a bunch by that author in a row using an initial?
Well, I went through all my Norton's along with the list that I found of her works through 2002. Put them in published date order. Then I took the ones that weren't mentioned in the list and, well, from 1951 to 2207 she only had ONE year she didn't have a book published. That was 2003. But I believe that was books that would have been written while she was in hospital recooperating from a stroke. So she had at a minimum 1 book a year for 55 years. Plus she'd had a few books published before that (her earliest that I have a copywrite date for in my personal library is 1929) But she only had I think it was 3 books published in that time period. (My list is sitting back on my bookcase so that I can use it for picking my next read when I get started on that section of the challenge)
it's so great that yz answered librarylass' question, i was wondering the same thing... there are authors like j.d. robb, l.a. banks etc., and it's great that we can use the initials.
Miss wrote: "it's so great that yz answered librarylass' question, i was wondering the same thing... there are authors like j.d. robb, l.a. banks etc., and it's great that we can use the initials."Be aware if there are two-letter initials, you can only use the second letter, so R from JR Ward, D from JD Robb, etc.

Wow. That's a lot of writing. Works out great for something like this though. :)

Thanks."
Yes, you can used the last letter of the middle name.
"
I assume this means we can also use the first letter of the middle name for the next author? Example: if my previous author had N and E for last letters and I want to use Carol Nelson Douglas for the next author that works?
hey Yz. i'm listed as #55 on the official thread list but Sara is using that number. my message is #54, so i'll just use that one. just letting ya know.
Was a decision ever made about plurals and possessives in the Word Relay? A couple of people have asked, but I can't seem to find any answer - I'm talking about Night, Nights or Night's for example.
I asked and I believe she said no to plurals/possesives and variations of words. Although she did say yes to splitting up a compound word. I asked about Dreamfever and she said I could use Dream or Fever but I guess I couldn't go from Dreamfever to Dreams or Dreamer.
Hi Yz,Can I change out a book in my relay if I haven't started reading it yet?
For my Copyright Year Relay, I have posted The Ice Man: Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer (2006), but I would like to replace it with The Thirteenth Tale (2006).

Sure you can.
Looking at the lists, I know a lot of people like putting bookcovers to show what they are reading, but for something like this - it might be a good idea to abstain, since lots of us are going to possibly have long lists as it is...
i don't want you to feel guilty...i was just thinking about the length - i mean i'm on book 3 of one of mine already and its only day 11...lol!
Delicious Dee the book slut wrote: "i don't want you to feel guilty...i was just thinking about the length - i mean i'm on book 3 of one of mine already and its only day 11...lol!"Yeah I thought I was on the fast track being on book 11, but there are a couple people with over 25 done already. I bow down in awe to them.
wow...That is insane...in my defense, my stats class is kicking me in the patootie...and it is severely interferring with my reading time...oh why must school do such a thing ;)
I just checked the Official thread and I almost have a heart attack. : )God, some of you people can read pretty fast.
Hmm...maybe I'll limit the next tournament to 3 months only.

I wouldn't mind if you changed the rules on this one to only 3 months.
Diane (deebotte) wrote: "I wouldn't mind if you changed the rules on this one to only 3 months."Me either. It's fun, for sure, so I'm up for either. Just throwin' in my 2¢ :)
I think some people posted a huge list ahead of time - I know someone is planning on reading the entire Agatha Christie back list
I'll let the 6-month period stand for this Tournament. Just keeping the option of a shorter time period when we do this again.
Wow, there are a couple people with 30 books read already (dated and rated) and I thought I was smoking with 10 done. Yz I think 3 months would be great.
Delicious Dee the book slut wrote: "I think some people posted a huge list ahead of time - I know someone is planning on reading the entire Agatha Christie back list"That's me, but I've only read 2 books so far and I didn't post AC's entire backlist because I don't want to scare myself, LOL.
LooLoo wrote: "Wow, there are a couple people with 30 books read already (dated and rated) and I thought I was smoking with 10 done."30 books?!? That's more than 2 books a day! Wow! Just... wow!
Sigh, I'm having SUCH a hard time getting into Robin Wells' Ooh, La La!. And I really need to get it finished so that I can go on to my NEXT Dante Valentine book. You see--I'm having a hard time with this one because while I have to go to another author in between each book--I'm limiting myself (as much as I can) to an author that will let me go to the NEXT Dante book. Fortunately, there are only 2 more of the Dante books, and after that, I'll have a lot more freedom for authors names. :o)
Yz the Whyz wrote: "LooLoo wrote: I'm considering this but have a question and I hope it hasn't been asked. For the author relay what if the author's first name is only initials? Like G.A. Aikens or L.J. McDonald and ..."Just for clarification that would mean that JD Robb you would be starting your next author with D or B? Correct? I'm looking for an author that leads me into my J's lol.
Heather wrote: Just for clarification that would mean that JD Robb you would be starting your next author with D or B? Correct? I'm looking for an author that leads me into my J's lol. ."That is correct.
I think J would be a hard letter to find...maybe look for a letter that the person's last name starts with
Ok just for clarification, cos I'm a bit slow If I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I can't link it with The dead Girl's dance. Just making sure.
Also what if its the same word, but a different spelling, like Fairy and Faerie?
nope and nope...they have to match exactly - the only variation according to Yz is something like dreamfever, where you can use dream or fever
I just got a couple of books from the library that I ordered and they are in large print putting them over 500 pages each, would this qualify them for the page count bonus or are we only counting books at normal print size? Just checking :) I don't want to put the page count down if it's going to be misleading for tallying up at the end.
Michelle wrote: "I just got a couple of books from the library that I ordered and they are in large print putting them over 500 pages each, would this qualify them for the page count bonus or are we only counting b..."I would look at the "regular version" of the book to see what the page count is...i.e. if you look up the book on Goodreads - see what the page count is listed as...if over 400 pages, then I would think that should count.
