LOL Southpaw! Seriously right? And here I was worried about my piddly pile.

I'm having similar concerns as you, will I be able to read series in order?? Dina made a good point about copyright yr v. word, so maybe ....

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Time to strategize folks. There are easy ways to do it. : )

southpaw285 | 588 comments Hey Steph, you could always do them both. Misery loves compnay.

My "mole hill" is only like 642, but I'm not looking to add...I'm looking to down size. Climbing this hill is hard work. I'm sure ya'll can hear my grunting and groaning and wheezing (from being out of breath) from here.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I don't know, Yz. This seems very complicated to me. I'm not sure I could manage this without hurting something. Like maybe my page turning finger. Then where would I be???

LOL...Hey, if you can't be a 'readathlete', be a 'readathlete' supporter. : )

Pick your candidate and cheer them on. : )

I know, I'm being silly, but I was looking at the list of participants, and I just realized I've assigned numbers to them that look like those numbers you place on runners in a marathon.

LOL, UM. You need to build up strength and endurance in those page turning fingers. It takes strength to hold those books. This is no time to be shy. We will all be here to cheer you on!

I'm doing 2 tracks and, to be honest, I think it's easier that way. I know that not every book I read is going to fit this challenge, but I have twice the chance of fitting them into this challenge. Did I make myself clear or am I too crazy to make sense? ;)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Yz and southpaw, LOL I know... I'm such a coward. Seriously, it takes me forever to figure things out. I'll watch and see how everyone else is doing it first. I don't want to trip and fall or something just sitting here at my computer!

message 110: by Dina (new)

Dina (missdina) | 807 comments UM, Yz will be doing the hard part - that is, scoring. All you have to do is choose your books and read, read, read... ;)

I'm sort of talking myself into just goin' for it (like Nike says "Just Do It!") and seeing how it goes. We might find out that we've worked ourselves into a tizzy planning and it's not all that hard to work out once we get goin'.... ??? Hoping? Maybe? Ya think? hehe

Ah, but southpaw & dina's conflicting comments are settin' my head to spinnin'. @:)

Thenia | 288 comments Question... I read the posts before mine but I'm still not clear if it's been answered: Could we have both "Word Relay" AND "Author Relay"/"Title Relay" AND "Copyright Year Relay" going at once is that not allowed? Could we have our two books belong to either the two options of Track One or Track Two?

Rule about using a book only once standing of course.

Anyway, details! I was thinking of abstaining from challenges until I finished some of the ones I'm already in but I don't think I can resist this one... I'm a "readathlete" at heart! :P I'm in!

Yz, great job, as usual! You rock! *bows in acknowledgment of Yz's awesomeness*

I'll try to do that. I'm editing the first post with changes every time a question is raised, so be sure to reread the first post just before the 15th as a refresher.

Yes, you can have two tracks going on at the same time. But for each track, you have to choose between the two relay options given.

Could we have our two books belong to either the two options of Track One or Track Two?

Not exactly sure what you mean here. You cannot used a book more than once for this tournament. You can focused and read for one track at a time but that would mean one book at a time since no there is no overlapping between beginning and end dates, or you can read two books at the same time, one for each track. Makes sense?

Rule about using a book only once standing of course.."

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Is it too late to join? Not sure which one I'd like do. I like the book title one but I'm worried about hitting a dead end and having to scramble to find a book with a word in the title.

So I think I will do the author one. I have 900 TBR books and that one will probably be somewhat easy to do unless I end up with an author name ending in all Z's or X's and I don't see that happening.

I'm assuming if we read a book that doesn't happen to fit in we just don't list it and just list the next book we read that fits right? Sorry if that was asked already-there's a lot of posts to read.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 140 comments Steph wrote: "I feel your pain, Macwolf! :( I want one of those library rooms with a rolling ladder and big, soft, cushy chairs to relax in ...."

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 140 comments Dina wrote: "southpaw, how about doing Track Two, Copyright Year Relay? That can go up and down (2010, 2009, 2010, 2009, ...) all the time and zoom through your TBR fairly quickly."

I am thinking about doing that too. I just need to compare my lists for other challenges and when they were written. I must be insane even considering doing this! I need to compare books before I even decide which tracks to attempt!

I am going to live dangerously and use the WORD one for track one. I may regret it. I have some listed already. I don't even OWN all the ones I have listed though. That is going to be a problem. But with the 2 tracks I can read a couple in one track then go to the other and so on.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I just want to make sure I have this right. So, for Word Relay, I can do this:

(Devlin, Delilah) Down in Texas, Texas Men, (Linda Howard) Texas Destiny, Texas Glory, Texas Splendor.

OR

(Jennifer Ashley) – The Pirate Hunter, The Pirate Next Door, The Care and Feeding of Pirates

Kresle y Cole, Rebecca Y ork

You take the last letter of either the first or last name of the author, and it should be the beginning letter of the first or last name of the next author.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments ok dumb question again-sorry if it was asked already but I didn't see it anywhere.

If I read Darkfever by KMM-can I use the Dark or the Fever by itself in the next title?

And do variations of a word count. Like if Lover is one title can the next book just have Love or Loving or a variation of the word? Or Dark to Darkness etc..,

Nope, variations are not acceptable

message 137: by LooLoo (new)

LooLoo What about plurals for words? If I'm using the word Night can I also use Nights or Night's?

message 138: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments OK I'm switching to connecting title words because I seem to have several series I can connect together (I hope) before I hit a snag. It's not like I can't find a connector from somewhere and just read something else while I wait for it to arrive.

message 139: by Mary X (last edited Jul 11, 2010 04:24PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Forgive me if this has been asked already, I don't see it-and yes I am the annoying question lady :-)

For the connecting title words-does series into count?

For example: And Only To Deceive (Lady Emily,Bk 1) by Tasha Alexander. Can we use Lady or Emily to connect to another book? The series info shows on my goodreads book list but now when I use the add a book link.

message 140: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I just reread the directions. I didn't realize that we could start over if we ran into a dead end and still keep the pts we earned. I mean I knew we could change tracks. But it just occurred to me that if I read 3 or 4 in a row with the titles and then can't connect one-I can just start a new chain. I didn't get that before. Duh. That makes it much easier and now I won't wast too much time plannign ahead. I did compile some book lists to go together. But now I know I don't have to scramble to find a connector if I don't have one. I can remove some books from my booksfree queue if I want.

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 409 comments hey gang. Yz this challenge is awesome. definitely proves if one is a reading athelete. i'd love to join this challenge. i have a quick question though; i hope it hasn't been asked before. i'm a little confused on the overlapping. we have the choice of doing one track, but if we choose to do two tracks, do we have to start them at the same time?

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Yz, odd question for you. I was looking at the participants list and you have skipped several numbers. Why is that?

message 143: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I think the overlapping thing means you can't read 2 books for the same track at the same time. But you can read a book for each track at the same time. Also I don't think you can use 1 book for both tracks.

I have yet another question. I might not have computer access for a few days when I move. Does that mean if I start a book during that time and can't log on to say I started it-that it doesn't count? I'll read books I can't work into a good chain during that time if that's the case.

message 144: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Photojim - i would guess the numbers are the posting which people are using to keep track, so if there are numbers skipped, it is for people like you and others who are using two threads

That sounds amazing LOL.

message 148: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments OK I just reread and saw that posting a book title before you start or right when you are starting isn't required as long as we provide it when we list them and don't overlap for the same track.

So now I have another question-you said variations don't count but what about plurals and possessive's. Like Knight then Knight's. Or Nights then Night?

message 149: by Mojca (new)

Mojca | 1414 comments Question: Do we really have to post the book before reading (However, you must post the book first before reading it, so we see the start date.). What if we post it after reading it, stating the start and end date?

I’m asking because I’m going on vacation at the end of the month and will be away from a computer screen for two weeks.

message 150: by KimWin (new)
