Other first in series books read (during this challenge):

This was the only month I only read 1 first. 47 firsts from October to June. I think I've got enough series to keep me busy for awhile, lol.

WOW! 47! So gang...time to start posting your stats! I'm working on a group wrap up, too! I've been distracted by one or two things...not to mention some of those new series that have had wonderful continuing books published this month!

I read 12 firsts for the challenge; an additional 38 firsts read during the challenge. ..."
It's a good way for me to double-check my stats...and save myself from later embarrassment...OK~selfish streak showing!
Enjoy bragging about how many interesting series you've found! (Even if only half are worth reading further, that's impressive!!!)

It's here! Love or Hate @ FIRST

Here are my stats...
I read 12 firsts for the challenge; an additional 107 firsts read during the challenge (Mix of PNR & Mystery). For a total of 119 books!

SOS Group Firsts Challenge
July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011
Completed: 12/12

See post 322 for July - October

The Rest Falls Away, Colleen Gleason, 5-3-11 Really fun read. Comparisons to Buffy are inevitable: young girl called to be a vampire slayer, endowed with exceptional strength through "magical" means, struggling to balance a real life with that duty. Gleason manages to impart her own twist on the theme.
The Regency setting meant Victoria had to also deal with the limited freedom women were granted. Raised to aim for nothing more than a good marriage, Victoria is determined to achieve that aim in addition to fulfilling her destiny. Slowly realizing that it may not be as easy as she thinks, Victoria has some tough decisions to make.
I didn't really care for Victoria's main love interest; he came across as tame and boring. Sebastian and Max both had more presence. I will definitely be looking for the next book.
Also read:
Visions of Magic, Regan Hastings, 5-10-11 I was really impressed with Visions of Magic and the world building Hastings put into it. Magic has reemerged in a very public way, striking panic into ordinary humans. Witch hunts, internment camps and burnings are the all too plausible results as Hastings writes it. The characters are interesting also. Shea "Awakens" and her struggle to hide her powers ends. Instead, she must learn to use them as quickly as possible, search her surfacing memories of the first coven and overcome the temptation to seek power for its own sake. I was intrigued by the concept of Eternals, but I wanted a little more depth from Torin. Rune had less "screen time" and made more of an impression on me. I can't wait to read his story and will definitely continue reading this series.
Beyond the Night, Joss Ware, 5-21-11 For the most part this was a pretty decent first in series book. Set 50 years in the future, after massive ecological upheaval, Dr. Elliott Drake and a few friends wake up to a different world. We kind of learn the politics of this new world and what happened to cause the changes as they do. Jade's had a difficult life and because of years spent as a victim, she has a few control issues. Completely understandable. There was one scene that lowered this book to a 3 star rating, I was completely disgusted by one of the sex scenes in the book. (view spoiler) Not Sexy at all! The more I think about it, the more I debate. Maybe it's not even worth the 3 stars. I will give the series one more chance, but if there's another scene like this one, I won't continue.
Nightshade, Andrea Cremer, 5-26-11 3.5 Stars. I had a difficult time rating this book. It started off great, the world Cremer has created is fascinating and I was interested in the characters. I had to put the book aside halfway through to finish something else and instead of picking it back up as soon as possible, I found myself putting it off. I'm not really sure why, but it didn't demand my attention. Over a week later, I picked it back up and finshed in a couple days. The world was just as fascinating and I did want to know how things were going to turn out, but I think it was the love triangle that was putting me off. I will probably pick up the next book at some point, I'm very interested in how the overall conflict is going to progress.
Desire Untamed, Pamela Palmer, 5-29-11 Basically a good fun read. It will be interesting to see where the world goes from here. 3 stars.
Parallel Attraction, Deidre Knight, 5-30-11 Interesting concept and a solid start to a series.

June
Enchanted, Inc, Shanna Swendson, 6-5-11 Light and fun read. The characters were funny and I really enjoyed the concept of a completely normal human being so important and saving the day.
Also read:
Jacob, Jacquelyn Frank, 6-4-11 Still a good read the second time around. I read this ages ago and for some reason never made it past book 2 in the series. I want to finish it, but rereading 1 and 2 to pick up anything I might have missed.
Star of the Morning, Lynn Kurland, 6-10-11 Good solid start to a series. For a romantic fantasy, the romance part was slow moving. But it is only the first book and there's plenty of room for the relationship to grow. The characters are interesting, one in particular is obnoxious. I'm interested in seeing how things develop.
Wither, Lauren DeStefano, 6-16-11 Despite a few problems with the scientific/technical aspects, DeStefano's world building is interesting. I'm most likely going to continue reading.
Game Over, Taylor Keating, 6-19-11 Rough start, could have used a little more clarity. But once I got into it, I really enjoyed the story.
Daughter of the Forest, Juliet Marillier, 6-24-11 Slow starter. Had trouble getting into it, even though a beautiful retelling of the swan fairytale set against a historical backdrop.
Nightfall, Ellen Connor, 6-26-11 Couldn't put it down. Didn't realize til later that Anne Aguirre was one of the co-authors. Very dark paranormal/apocolyptic romance. Will definitely buy the rest of the trilogy.
The Remains of the Dead, Wendy Roberts, 6-27-11 Entertaining paranormal mystery.
The Name of the Wind, Patrick Rothfuss, 6-29-11 I really loved this book. My one big fear is since it took 4 years for book 2, how long until the third book will come out?

See you guys in round 2!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

You do know this series isn't over. Book 6, Adam, is coming out in Oct. I'm not sure if that will be the last one or not.
BTW, thanks for you mini-reviews throughout the challenge. I enjoyed reading them and added a few books to my TBR because of them. :)
