First let me say that I really enjoyed going through your bookshelves. My to-be-read list is much longer now!

We've both read most of the books we have in common, but all of these are on my TBR shelf, too:

TBR shelf (romantic suspense/mystery/thriller):
1. The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson -- I can't wait to read this one to finish up the trilogy.
2. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins -- I just finished reading Hunger Games for another challenge and found it disturbing and fascinating. I'm looking forward to reading this second book.
3. Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison -- I'm not a huge paranormal fan, but I do like witches (and ghosts). I have this on my TBR shelf, too. It looks really good.
4. Forget Me Not by Marliss Melton -- another TBR we have in common that looks like a good mystery.

Additional TBR (not suspense):
There are a few books on your TBR shelf that I've read and would highly recommend, but they aren't mysteries or romantic suspense:
1. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee -- one of my favorite books, ever.
2. Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer -- I really enjoyed this YA dystopian novel
3. Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson -- I'm not much of a fantasy romance reader, but this was a fabulous book and I really enjoyed it. I have the next two in the series on my TBR shelf, too.

New to you:
1. Don't Tell by Karen Rose -- romantic suspense with an incredibly evil villain. Read it with the lights on ;o).
2. Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning -- I noticed that you'd read another book by Karen Marie Moning. I started this paranormal series last year and liked it a lot.
3. Tell No One by Harlan Coben -- this is a fast-paced suspense with some great twists.
4. Black Hills by Nora Roberts -- I noticed you had some Nora Roberts books on your list, too. I read this one last year and thought it was a great read.
5. Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane -- I haven't read this one yet, but I've heard great things about it. Sounds spooky.
6. Kill Me Twice by Roxanne St. Claire -- the first book in the Bullet Catchers series.

Hope you can find something on this list that appeals to you! If not, let me know and I'll try again ;o).

message 158: by Nicole (last edited Jun 30, 2010 12:39PM) (new)

Nicole (nicolerene) Tatiana,
After looking over your TBR list, it looks like we enjoy a lot of the same books.
I saw that you had already read Moon Called by Patricia Briggs and didn’t care for it. I know I am taking a chance with this one, but I would like to suggest reading her Alpha Omega Series. It is a little bit different than the Mercy Series and deals more with pack dynamics. The Anthology “On the Prowl” has the short story prequel “Alpha Omega”, which might give you an idea of what the series is like. The first novel in the series is “Cry Wolf” and picks up where the short story left off.
The rest of my recommendations are listed below. I hope you find something you like!

FROM TBR:

Dead Witch Walkingby Kim Harrison (love this series, very gritty)
Personal Demon by Kelley Armstrong (a great addition to this series)
Touch the Dark by Karen Chance (extensive world building can be confusing at times, but a really unique take on UF)
Blood and Chocolate by Annette Klause (great stand alone novel)

NEW TO YOU:
Strayby Rachel Vincent (probably my fav UF-PR series of all time, next to the Sookie Stackhouse Series. Love it!)

Kitty and the Midnight Hour by Carrie Vaughn
Ill Windby Rachel Caine (The Weather Warden books are totally different than any other books I have read.)
“Alpha Omega” by Patricia Briggs in the On the Prowl Anthology and Cry Wolf also by Patricia Briggs.

Michelle B (meesh_ox) | 42 comments Hi Buggy!

Here are my recs for you. Hope you find something you like! I tried to give you a little bit of everything since you said you liked anything.

TBR

1. The Host by Stephenie Meyer - Great book, I couldn't help but to fall in love with all the characters.

2. Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris - I see you enjoyed the first book of the series so I went ahead and threw this one in. I'm on #5 and it just keeps getting better.

3. One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost - This is on my TBR list too. We all need a little Bones in our life.

4. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini - Amazing book. Worth rereading in my opinion, which I don't do often. I warn you it can be sad at times.

NEW

1. Graceling by Kristin Cashore - Loved this book. Can't wait for the next one coming out soon.

2. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon - Time travel and romance in one. Plus, I promise after meeting Irish hunk, Jamie Fraser, you will fall in love.

3. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder - Fantasy. Great read about a girl who has to taste and detect any poison in her Commander's food. No romance until the end and through the next book.

4. The Body Farm by Patricia Cornwell - Mystery. I like how Cornwell writes it keeps you turning the pages.

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments hi Carolyn F.
You have a lot of great books, I had a great time looking through your library, but this one was tough - you have read so many of the same PNR books as me.

from your TBR list:
Lover Enshrined - Love the brothers, noticed you have read some and if you liked some, I highly recommend you read the rest.
Blood Brothers - This is more supernatural than paranormal, but it is still a great series.
The Darkest Night - again I saw that you have read one of these, but this is the first and I think it is one of the better ones.
The Duke - As far as historicals goes, it is a basic one, but it is also a good beginning for a good series if you like series.

New to You list:
The Iron Hunt - Very different in the world of PNR even, not quite vamps or weres, but something quite different.
Royal's Bride - I recently read this and just fell in love with these brothers and the people around them.
Midnight Angel - Gotta love Lisa Kleypas and this is a good one too.
Mine Till Midnight - another first in a series that you have already read a few of, and worth going back to the beginning to read.

Under the Blood Red Moon - This one is different, it is both PNR and Historical romance. I was surprised at the combination and how they were mixed together. Much better than I expected.

Good luck, I hope you find something in this list you are in the mood to read this month.

Ang -PNR Book Lover Reviews (pnrbookloverreviews) | 324 comments Kaila lovely to meet you!!

message 169: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Anderson | 182 comments Hi Rachel,

Here are my picks. you had so many good choices it was hard for me to narrow it down.

From Your TBR List:

Glass Houses(YA Romance-ish) - this is a great series. It has an original storyline, and the characters are great.

Evernight (YA Romance) - I really liked this one. I love the spin Gray put on the vampire theme.

The Lightning Thief (YA) - This is one book you can't miss. It's full of action, and the two leading kids have a budding relationship even this early in the game.

Wild Card (Romantic Suspense) - I'll warn you ahead of time that Lora likes her sex often and naughty, so this choice isn't for the faint of heart.

Darkfever (Urban Fantasy) - I recommend this series to everyone. Not only is it original and surprising, the sexual tension between the hero/heroine is incredible and they don't even kiss until the second book. It's amazing.

Random Picks:
Scribbler of Dreams (YA romance) - This was probably the sweetest romance I read as a kid. A modern day Romeo and Juliet theme.

Jinx (YA Romance) - Cute and sweet, with a hero that'll make you toes curl.

Angels Fall (Romantic Suspense) - No body does this genre better than Nora in my opinion. The killers always surprise me, and the characters are to die for.

Naked in Death (Romantic Suspense) - Another Nora.

Taken (Romantic Suspense) - This is a good fast paced love story; a bit original in it's plotline

Full Moon Rising (UR/Romantic Suspense) - Though this one is an urban fantasy, the "who done it?" makes it mixed genre in my opinion.

message 177: by Annie (new)

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Hi Cynthia

As you don't have a goodreads TBR list - I've gone with 8 books I've read and enjoyed that are in the mystery/romantic suspense line. I hope you can find something in the list you can get hold of, haven't read, and enjoy!
I noticed a few Regencies and other historicals on your shelf - so that's the tack I went with.

In no particular order:
1. Interred with Their Bones by JJ Carrell. Who wrote Shakespeare - with a twist and a few bodies.

2. Mistress of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin. 1st in a series, set in Medieval England, under Henry II, starring a female coroner.

3. The Lady Killer - 1st in a trilogy. A Regency spy novel - with female operatives.

4. The Pretender - first in a series. Another Regency spy series, but worth it!

5. Northern Lights by Nora Roberts. My fav Roberts so far. And, it's a standalone, if you don't want to be sucked into a series.

6. Naked in Death by JD Robb. I'm a latecomer to this series - feel free to join me in working your way through them.

7. Slightly Shady by Amanda Quick. 1st about Lavinia Lake & Tobias March. Early 19th century.

8. The Silver Pigs by Lindsay Davis. 1st in a series set in Rome under Vespasian (70AD-ish). I love the relationship between Falco and Helena.

One more... The Secret History of the Pink Carnation by Lauren Willig. Ok, I haven't read this one - but I lent it to my sister, who is now devouring the rest of the series! Think Scarlet Pimpernel, with historic research now.

I'm leaning towards Maggie Shayne's Wings in the Night since I have it in my possession right now.

Hey Yz the Whyz, Wings in the Night is a contemporary PNR. I think that one will be a lot of fun because its the first 3 stories of the series in one book. I really like Maggie Shayne and I hope you do too.

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Hi Sandy,

Here are the recs for you.

From your TBR,

1. Night Pleasures By Sherilyn Kenyon. I saw that you didn't enjoy her first novel of the Dark hunter series but it does get better. This is the second book in the series and my favorite.

2. Mine Till Midnight by Lisa Kleypas. A great historical romance author, this book is the first in the Hathaway series.

3. Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri. - Its a collection of short stories, some are better than others.

4. Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. A good classic, mystery novel.

I realized that we have very similar taste in reading and have so many of the same books on our list, so it was hard to find something completely new to you.

New or Somewhat new to you:

1. To Wed a Scandalous Spy by Celeste Bradley. Its a historical romance spy novel. This was my first spy novel, and I was hooked.

2. Devil's Bride by Stephanie Laurens. One of my favorite author, first book in a series, I just love them.

3. Krakatoa: The Day the World Exploded: August 27, 1883 - Since you like history, I thought you might enjoy this one.

4. A People's History of the United States: 1492 to Present - Another history book, but good writing by the author.

Don't Tell-Again highly recommended and i'm waiting to get the last book before i start the series.
Coming Undone-My OCD is fighting to recommend the first book, but am not sure if you'd mind a menage story. This book though was really great and i think you would enjoy it.
Duncan's Bride-This is a contemporary with a historical twist. I love the main characters though, and i think you would too.
I just started reading historicals, so i can't give you big recommendations on that genre. This is a book though that comes so highly recommended, i just have to mention it: Secrets of a Summer Night

On your TBR:
The Sword-This was recommended to me a few months ago through this challenge and i loved it.
Extreme Exposure-Have not read it, but as am sure it was your case comes highly recommended and i plan on reading it soon.

2. Halfway to the Grave + One of my NEW favorite series. This is the 1st book of the series. It is PNR/CR.

3. Dark Lover + Another PNR/CR. But I'm thinking if you are planning to read Lover Mine, you might as well read the 1st book in the series( Black Dagger Brotherhood ). I really liked it.

4. The Politics of Love + An IR Contemporary Romance. This one is also on my list to read this month. The back cover reads really good.

And I can`t resist giving you one more rec...
5. The Sweet Spot + Also on my list to read this month. IR book, CR genre. I think you will enjoy it too.

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost The Politics of Love (Noire Fever) by Giselle Carmichael The Sweet Spot by Kimberly Kaye Terry

Hope these do well for you. Let me know what you think. Good reading!!!...

You have so many of my favorite books on your bookshelfs I felt right at home browsing through them, heh...

From your to-read shelf:
Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh - terrific concept and worldbuilding
Sunshine by Robin McKinley - very bizzare world that somehow manage to feel normal
Soulless by Gail Carriger - funny and very different from anything I've read previously
The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter - pleasant one if you don't min cro-magnon mentality in your heroes.
also - if you'd rather laugh to your prn/uf - Howling at the Moon by Karen MacInerney is quite fun.

New/other:
Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh - this one is more UF than PNR and equally good if not better, IMO
Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews - I've read it in June and liked it so much I've completed the series in less than a week
Skinwalkerby Faith Hunter - I love heroine in this one. Also it presents curious concept of shapeshifting. As for the plot - decent enough for me to enjoy it very much.
Lover Eternalby J.R. Ward - I noticed you've read first book in BDB series, but not progressed. This one is my favorite, heh...

If you'd like some more choices, give me a word :)
Enjoy!

From your TBR:
-Wings by Aprilynne Pike- I've been meaning to read this forever, it sounds good!
-Tantalize by Cynthia Leitich Smith- I just finished this and it was much better than I expected. Very sexy and the vampires are really evil :)
-Sleeping with the Fishes by MaryJanice Davidson- Very cute mermaid story. Her writing is really fast and light, you could whip this one out in a day!
-A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray- This book honestly starts very blah, but it's such a creative, amazing world once you get into it!

New to you:
-Spooky Little Girl by Laurie Notaro- This is a novel by one of my fave non-fiction authors. It's a cute take on ghosts.
-Date Me, Baby, One More Time by Stephanie Rowe- Totally dumb title, but I loved this series.
-The Kitchen Witch (Accidental Witch Trilogy, #1) by Annette Blair - Cute witchy romance!
-Key of Light by Nora Roberts - Old school PNR, quick read!

Sorry, you have so much on your TBR, it was hard to find things that weren't on there! :)

First let me say that I really enjoyed going through your bookshelves. My to-be-read list is much longer now!

Kristi,
I love your picks! I wan't to read them all, but I'm afraid I won't be able to do so, ehh... I'd like to read Larsson's The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Also, I'm very tempted by Black Hills by Nora Roberts and Lehane's Shutter Island... I promise I'll read at least one of those four, but I'll try to read more, hah :D
Thanks!

Lili | 343 comments Hey Ang… I loved your shelves and couldn’t help to pick up a few books there… after giving it a little thought here are my options for you.

From yout TBR.
1. Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh. The first book of a GREAT series, if you liked BDB, the psy-changeling is a close second.
2. Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night by Kresley Cole. A great series, one of my favorites and this one is the story of Bowen and Mariketa.
3. Lover Revealed by J.R. Ward. I noticed you’re reading Zsadist story… this is Butch’s and is also great.
4. Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton. Haven’t read it but it’s been on my TBR for a while now.

New to you.
1. Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs by Molly Harper. The story of Jane Jameson becoming a vampire. A very very funny book.
2. Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz. This one for a different approach to vampires.
3. Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione. A new series for you with demons and three brothers you can’t help but to love.
4. Full Moon Rising by Keri Arthur. The story of Riley Jenson who’s a hybrid of a vampire and a werewolf.

Take your pick!, I hope you can find something you like… happy reading Ang!

Gigi you made this hard for me. Tall Dark and Cajun, Vows and Morrigan's Cross are on one of my lists for the month. From the recs, I think I'm going to read A Personal Matter. I wanted to read The Color of Love but I can't find a copy *sniff*. I'm going to keep looking though

You have a really good list of choices and I had a hard time deciding, along with the ones I wanted to recommend to you...so I've given you 5 from your TBR and 5 new ones (I've read all but two of them and one is in my TBR pile!)

TBR
Surrender - Lora Leigh - You had read and liked some of her Breeds series, this is the first in her bound hearts which I really enjoyed
Talk Me Down - Victoria Dahl
It Had to Be You - Susan Elizabeth Phillips - I enjoyed this book and the dog definately steals the show occasionally
Club Shadowlands - Cherise Sinclair - I had this on my list to recommend to you before I even looked at your TBR pile, so I thought I would go ahead
Love in the Afternoon - Lisa Kleypas - I know you wanted Contemp, but since this one just came out, I thought I would throw it on the list for you

New
Long Hard Ride - Lorelei James - this is the first in the rough riders series and all I can say is hot cowboys!! (there are a few M/M scenes in this one)
Faith & Fidelity - Tere Michaels - this one may be pushing the boundaries for you a bit because it is M/M, but I really enjoyed it and its not as explicit and fairly sweet
Come Monday - Mari Carr - this is the first in a series about brothers and sisters who work in the family bar in Baltimore Maryland - there are three others in the series out currently (I'm not sure if Amazon has this one, but I know Ellora's Cave does) - it has some BDSM to it, but nothing really intense
Just One Of The Guys - Kristin Higgins - this is a contemp romance/chick lit, but its really cute - I just finished reading it a couple of weeks ago
Mad, Bad and Blonde - Cathie Linz - I haven't read this one, but i've seen it recommended on Amazon boards a few times!

I hope there is something there you are interested in reading - if not let me know and i'll put my thinking cap back on!

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments hey Chelsea - thanks for the choices - I think I might stick to the ones of my TBR list for now (since i'm re-doing my bathroom and its going to cost more than anticipating which is cutting into my book buying budget). So i'm going to try and read pack challenge and how to marry a millionaire vampire. If I do end up getting some new ones, I'll probably try to read Its kind of a funny story because it sounds interesting and up my alley.
