15.7 A Passage to India I would change how schools are funded in Wisconsin. Directly linking property taxes to school funding is hurting the schools and making it hard for retirees to remain in WI. I help this by supporting school tax reform.
10.9 How to Trim Sails by Don Guillette - this is the one I read on vacation. We were sailing on Lake Carlyle in Illinois for a week. It was fabulous!

A. My favourite genre is historical fiction so I read World Without End by Ken Follett (1000+ pages). I have always had an interest in history and reading historical fiction brings, for me, the events of the past to life. It lends a human aspect to what is normally considered in abstract terms and I love this genre of writing.
B. My second favourite genre is mystery/thriller so I read The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón (500+ pages). I love novels that require me to think. I love guessing what happens next, who did what and why???
Total so far: 65 points :)

For Task 5.9 (Get Caught Reading), I read Lady Killer by Lisa Scottoline (**GOODREADS AUTHOR**). Due to American Airlines turning my 6 hour trip into one that took TWO DAYS, I read the whole darn book in public (planes, airports, etc.). Book was disappointing; I usually like her stuff better than this one.
For Task 20.5 (Library Love) I read
The Body in the Library by Agatha Christie. This Miss Marple story was a lot of fun!!!
This brings me to:
Total: 260 Points

Big Books: 1

B) Evolution Beyond the Gene by Lee Alan Dugatkin (new and blue)
15.10 Sloane Sisters by Annabelle Vestry
I love that my sister is always willing to help out and is always there when she is needed.
20.6 All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris
I think this book is a must read for anyone who has read the first six books in the series. If you've read that far, then the next one is definitely a good continuation. However, for the general public, I don't think this is a must read; it's more of a guilty pleasure.
25.2. A) Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
B) Because I'm Worth It by Cecily von Ziegesar
25.5 A) Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris
B) Wanted by Sara Shepard
My favorite genre is fantasy. I enjoy reading fantasy because it's fun to get away to different worlds where things such as magic and vampires can occur.
Review of Living Dead in Dallas
I enjoyed reading this book more than the first in the series. I think part of the reason might be that I'm more familiar with the characters and the 'world' that the story is written in . The main character Sookie, is starting to use her ability more for her own use and for others and gets herself into some interesting situations that are fun to read about. The vampire hotel was interesting with the human guards in the daytime to protect the vampires. I like reading about their interactions with other vampire clans and other fantasy creatures. I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series.
My second favorite genre is YA fiction. I enjoy reading YA because they are usually quick, easy reads, and they bring back memories of a younger time.
Review of Wanted contains spoilers
I really liked the way this book concluded the Pretty Little Liars series. The ending made sense and wrapped up and wrapped up all the clues that had been handed out throughout the series. I also enjoyed the surprise of Ali's twin sister, Courtney and how smoothly that idea fit in with the plot. I also like the twist at the end and the fact that girls were actually friends with Courtney. The girls were a little naive in this book, but not as bad as they have been in the other books in the series where they believed every new person with a hint of guilt was the 'bad guy'. All the plot points fit together at then end and made the story work. However, after the police and public had such a hard time believing the things the girls had been telling them, it was a little unbelievable that they would completely accept the Ali/Courtney story and everything that went along with it - as they seemed to. Great conclusion to a fun series - 5 stars.
25.7 A) Active Assessment: Assessing Scientific Inquiry by David Hanauer et. al.

20.1 - The Most Improved Player - Deirdre's Task - Sweltering Summer Days
When I think of a hot summer day, I think of one of my favorite junk foods: ICE CREAM! Think of the name of your favorite ice cream, and read a book whose title contains at least one of the words from the ice cream name. For example, my favorite ice cream is White Chocolate Almond, so I could read The Devil in the White City , Like Water for Chocolate, The Almond Picker: A Novel, or White Chocolate Moments. The word in the book title should exactly match the word in the ice cream title, so I could NOT read Chocolat. When you claim points, tell us what your favorite ice cream flavor is!
Peach Cobbler Murder by Fluke (Peach Ice Cream) My favorite is fresh peach at Christines with chocolate jimmies!!

This is one of those rare times when Lynley is totally off base. He's trying to make circumstances fit the person he wants to be guilty because of jealousy. I liked that the always perfectly composed Inspector is not so calm and cool always in this book. This is also a mystery novel where I wasn't able to figure out whodunit immediately and I liked that.
The Last Time I Saw You: A Novel review: Several classmates go to their 40th reunion. Since it's going to be the last one, many who have not attended any prior reunions come to this one. The jocks, nerds, popular kids, mean girls, and even the class tramp all show up. Even though they're 58-59 years old now, some of the past hurts and joys are still very near the surface. The book has several classmates take turns telling the story from his or her point of view. Good story, and as always Elizabeth Berg does a great job writing emotions.
Favorite genre: mystery/crime
I like this genre because I like figuring out puzzles. I always try to solve the crime before the detective.
2nd favorite genre: chick lit
I enjoy chick lit for escapism. The characters and stories are sometimes ones I can relate to my own life or people I know. The books are usually easy reads so I mix them up in between heavier stories. Sometimes “chick lit” stories can have an unexpected depth and that makes it even more rewarding.
25.9 I chose the bikini option: Read 2 books totaling at least 850 pages and first published in 1946 (date of first named bikini) or later
Overfall 384 pages published in 2003
The Glass Lake 584 pages published in 1994

Stuck Down by Eileen Rosenbloom
15.9 He Who Knows...
NERDS: National Espionage, Rescue, and Defense Society
The main narrator of this book, Jackson Jones, is a popular kid who falls from his pedestal after he gets braces. He eventually joins a group of "nerdy" kids he used to pick on in order to save the world. I have never saved the world (to my knowledge) nor was I ever as vaunted as Jackson or abused as his teammates, but I definitely think of myself as a "nerd." I was never very good at sports (though I played just about everything at one point or another when I was a kid); I'd rather read or write or play video games or draw than talk about clothes or makeup (which made middle school weird for me, let me tell you...). I was always in the honors classes (except for math--math and I just don't mix), worn glasses (my third-grade class picture is awful), and been on the chubby side (except for when I lost a whole bunch of weight before sixth grade). I'm still much too shy to be considered "popular," even though I get along with most people I meet. But I revel in my nerdiness! I embrace it because it makes me me, and I wouldn't want to be any other way ^_^
25.3 Virtual Vacation
The Wild Orchid: A Retelling of "The Ballad of Mulan" (I'd like to visit China) and Video Girl Ai, Vol. 1: Preproduction (originally published in Japanese)
Total: 45 + 575 (from earlier) = 620 pts

I rolled 4, 5, 5, so I needed to read a book between 445 and 465 pages. I read Death Du Jour by Kathy Reichs, which has 464 pages.

Read Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders by Vincent Bugliosi who has also written some fiction. I would like to claim this as my Big Book (over 500 pages).

The 13 Clocks by James Thurber, a classic fairy tale I had never gotten around to reading.
Books read: 13

Task 10.3 - Brenda Neufeld was on at the same time as me so I read what she did: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larssen.
Task 10.8 - Under the Sea. I listened to The Devil's Teeth: A True Story of Obsession and Survival Among America's Great White Sharks by Susan Casey. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in sharks.
Task 25.5 - Read 400 pages of fairy tales. I chose Snow White, Blood Red at 411 pages. My problem with multi-author anthologies is that some of the stories I really liked, but others not very much.
By my reckoning, that should take me up to 200 points.

This is my first challenge, so I read

During a family stay in Germany, my host-sister's English class read one of Thurber's fables ("The Moth and the Star"). The teacher asked me to read it aloud so they could hear an American accent read the story, and I kept trying not to laugh throughout it, especially when I came to the moral. Because I was having so much trouble, she proceeded to ask me to explain the humor...in German. Talk about a rough day that was! lol

For A I read: The Resort
My absolute favorite Genre is horror. I've seen "Nightmare on Elm Street" for the first time when I was eleven, together with my mom. A year later I read King's "Pet Cemetary" and ever since I love reading horror books. About a year ago I came across Bentley Little and read "The Policy" and made a plan to read more of his books. Now over a year later I finally found the time to. "The Resort" is a spectacular book and for the first couple of pages I wished I was the one on vacation there, of course that changed over time.Little has a very scary, brilliant imagination and I'm already looking forward to diving into more of his crazy ideas. Next up is "The Association".
For B I read: City of Ashes
My second favorite genre is fantasy because it lets me drift off into different worlds. I've read the first of The Mortal Instruments "City of Bones" and thought it was well-written. Of course it has the momentarily hyped vampires, werewolfs, etc. and is written for teenagers but that wouldn't stop me from reading. This one though I've only read because it's the second installment. I didn't really like it. It was kind of boring and the plot was a little weird. I'll read the third one anyhow, maybe I'll like that one better again.
