Finished Task 20.5 by reading 500 pages from the NEA Celebrity List: A Tale of Two Cities (304 pages) and My Antonia (288 pages). A Tale of Two Cities is gut-wrenching. It's gritty, dark, wonderful, emotional and the best love story ever told. This has to be Dicken's best work.
My Antonia is a tale of pioneering days in Nebraska. It was told as a memoir of Jim Burdon, Antonia's best friend. I enjoyed the tale of their childhood and early adulthood but would have preferred to know more about Antonia's thoughts & feelings, rahter than Jim's take on how she felt & thought. Good story but I preferred Cather's O Pioneers!

For 15.7 (seven deadly sins), I read The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove This is the third Christopher Moore book I read and I've enjoyed them all--but they are definitely a little off. This one was interesting because it introduced Molly and Theo (who I already met in The Stupidest Angel). It was fun to see how their relationship started.Much of the novel revolves around lust, but in my opinion it is not a sinful lust. There is a lot of sex, but mostly between people who do care about each other. Many times, I think lust can be hurtful when you end up lusting after someone or something that you cannot have. Those feelings can end up destructive. The lust in this story was mostly not destructive--a little weird at times, but not so destructive.

Completed A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute for 15.9 - pseudonym task. (Real name: Nevil Shute Norway). Really enjoyed this!My Review: (Cynthia, is this the place to post for the review competition or is there are separate thread?)
This is the story of Jean Paget and Joe Harman, Japanese prisoners of war, told through the eyes of Jean's trustee, Noel Strachan. Crossing the three continents of Asia, Britain and Australia, we follow the characters through some tough times and harsh climates during and in the aftermath of the Second World War, where love endures.
It is an engrossing read, covering many fascinating facts and touching on several interesting themes that affected the people of this time. Most interesting to me was the contrast between the treatment of male prisoners and their children and female counterparts by the Japanese. I found the respect, care and attention (within their capabilities), shown to the women and children quite touching, and, I feel, still a true reflection of the Japanese culture of respect today. This also contrasted with the way in which the Australian cattle farmers treated the local "boongs" or Aborigines. Although they seemed to be well cared for within the story, they still had to be served in different shops and were not allowed to mix with the whites.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. The characters were, for the most part, likeable and believable, although I did have one or two little niggles about Jean. I found her to be far too sensible for my liking and was willing her to some small frivolous thing with her new-found wealth. I also found the way she ended almost every sentence with "Joe" a little irritating! A small point, I know, but I am very tricky to please! These two small chinks stopped me from rating this a full 5/5.
I thought I had read this in my late teens, but none of it seemed at all familiar, so I think I must be thinking of a different book. I read this for the Spring Challenge on Goodreads - the task was to read a book written under a pseudonym. Nevil Shute's real name is Nevil Shute Norway.

I actually finished this book a while ago and forgot I was going to use it for the "Spring Cleaning" task. Oops! lol

9- REVIEW- I found this quite an interesting read. I only know her from being the OXO mum and being in All Creatures Great and small when I was younger. More recently she appears on a lunch time chat show and in the West End in Calender girls. She recounts tales from all these and more. She had quite a tough married life in her previous two marriages- and hope she has found real happiness now with Mr Spain.

The edition you posted had only 402 pages not the 500 required. So if your edition had 500 let me know but otherwise you will need to read another book of at least 98 pages to complete the task.

15.6 I read Ethan Frome and Cat's Cradle. Ethan Frome was popular with my friends and Cat's Cradle was one of Mary's 5 Star books.
Finished 20.6 - Noah - Jacquelyn Frank. The series is a guilty pleasure of mine. This is the fifth of the series about a race of demons with different elemental powers. Demons 'imprint' on their mates, whether they be druids or lycanthropes and have no choice but to 'mate' with them for life. Lots of paranormalness involved, and is complete fluff but fun.Total Points: 820

Really good series of sci-fi spaceship adventures. The ships are powered by humans who are paraplegic and tied into the ship called brainships. Each ship has a "brain" and a "brawn" - well-written and easy read. This was co-authored by two of the most prolific of current sci-fi authors.

I just donated two large bags of clothing to a local chursh for distribution to people in need. Therefore, these clothes are getting their "Second Time Around" just like the title of the author's book. The book was quite good - typical MHC mystery -fun and a quick read.
