You're making me want to read Outlander again.

message 158: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha...
I'm falling for Jamie too! But Alexander is still my number one, though ;)

message 159: by Diane (new)

Diane (ladydi4476) | 107 comments Khulood are you reading Outlander for the first time? I'm really liking it and yes I find Jamie adorable! But I agree, Alexander is still my number one.

message 160: by Mishelle (new)

Mishelle LaBrash (mishalabrash) Oh, I can't blame you both on the Alexander front.. After all what's not to love? But you still have 6 more HUGE tombs to devour, with our man Jamie... I predict you'll wind up a crazy, drooling, fanatic, fantasing about your version of Jamie, soon enough... lol.

message 161: by Diane (new)

Diane (ladydi4476) | 107 comments I believe you Shell! I can't believe there are so many more books in the series. I'm almost done with Outlander, I'm on chapter 31. I'm going to pick up the second one tonight! Probably the third one too.

Just a word of warning.. book 2, as well as book 5 for me, were real dry, in many parts. Its is all information imperative to the story line, so keep with it... It's well worth it...

message 163: by Diane (new)

Diane (ladydi4476) | 107 comments Shell, I heard the second is not as good as the third one Voyager! I guess it's kind of like Tatiana & Alexander being more "dry" to speak in lol than The Summer Garden.

Diane (ladydi4476) | 107 comments Hey guys! What do you think of Gabriel Aubry as Jamie? He is HOT!

message 165: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, I'm reading Outlander for the 1st time, Diane.
I too am shocked with the length of the series! But I don't think I'll get bored with it haha... :P

reading 950 pages is really worth it, Shell? *Choke*

message 166: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't know about this Gabriel.. I imagine Jamie a bit more.... innocent? more as a baby face in my vision :D

Diane, you are so lucky to have that big, fat, six-book journey before you! (Jamie only gets better, in my opinion) Savor it for those of us wandering around trying to figure out what to read next.

I'm looking for the next Outlander/BH type book(s) to rock my world. Anyone have suggestions?

evamp (antheab) | 15 comments I'm reading the first book of the 'Outlander' series by Diana Gabaldon, and people are telling me that it's better than the Bronze Horseman (which I find incredibly difficult to believe). Anyone agree? Please no spoilers :P

I read the Outlander series first. So Jamie is was my first LOVE. I don't think you compare two.
Alexander is so special to me he feels like an old boyfriend I love him in a more real way than Jamie (if that makes any sense). The writing is fantastic in both series.

You are in for a treat. Enjoy.

message 172: by ChristinaRae (new)

ChristinaRae | 163 comments Mod
It's hard to say better or worse; both series are great in their own way. Outlander is longer and more historically detailed (for its time) and has the fantasy time-travel element; Jaime is the untoppable romantic hero, in my opinion. BH feels more recent, and therefore more real, and Alexander is more of a flawed tragic hero, however delectable he may be.

evamp (antheab) | 15 comments Sounds good :D I can't wait to continue reading!

description
I put Outlander aside on my bookshelf and started reading A SONG IN THE DAYLIGHT by Paullina Simons, our beloved writer.
Have you heard of this book? I've been waiting to read it for months, pretty much since I discovered PS and her books.
I'm really loving it. I'll tell u, I don't think a mother can enjoy a book like that, it's simply outrageous and the reviews are so mixed, from hating it to loving it beyond anything else in the world.
I don't want to give anything from the plot, so I'm not going to spoil anything... The book basically is about a woman; wife, mother, friend, who is torn between her happily-ever-after life and a man she is irresistibly drawn to, a man other than her husband.

I don't know, but I really like this book, I'm still in the beginning though, but I'm already immersed in it.

I'll checkit out sounds good. I tried Tully but it was a tomb and I wasn't in the mood for it at the time but it did look like it would be good.

message 176: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmm... I haven't read Tully yet, can't find it :/
You should definitely check ASITD out. It's outrageously good.

message 177: by evamp (new)

evamp (antheab) | 15 comments What's 'a Song in the Daylight' about? It is a love story? Lol, anywhere near as good as 'The Bronze Horseman'?

message 178: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmm... You could say it's a love story, between a married woman and a much younger man :-)
It's not as amazing as TBH, but it's not too far nonetheless. It's... different, outrageous, the kind of book that will make you cry "Oh my God" out loud while riding a bus, that's A Song In The Daylight.

message 179: by Noreen (new)

Noreen (noreenodo) | 4 comments Has anyone ever read Gracelin O'Malley by Ann Moore? I've never seen it mentioned in discussions, but it is every bit as heartwrenching and beautifully written as TBH. It is the first book in a trilogy, which I didn't know when I picked it up at the library. I was dying at the end of it, not knowing if there was a sequel - got right on the computer, searched amazon and ordered the other 2 in the series right up. I don't think anyone could be disappointed in this book, it is sooooooooooo good, but soooooooo sad - just like TBH. I highly, highly recommend it!

I want to read HIH. I have also wanted to reread TBH for months now, but I thought after I reread TSG I can reread the entire trilogy.

message 184: by Noreen (new)

Noreen (noreenodo) | 4 comments Alycia, Let me know what you think. Have the tissues handy. I've reread TBH and Outlander twice each series (Outlander - the first book several times actually and the really good parts of TBH multiple times). I'm getting ready to reread Gracelin - had to buy the first in the series since I borrowed it from the library originally. I will admit I had to work myself up to rereading this one because it was so sad, but here goes.

message 187: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I am currently reading Bones of the Dragon, scifi fantasy. I didn't think I would dig it, but I haven't been able to put it down. I didn't realize it would be along a mythology based adventure (with gods that I've never heard of) and I totally love mythology.

message 188: by Linda (new)

Linda C | 30 comments Here is another book for you to check out-- "Trinity" by Leon Uris. I read it in high school in the '70s, so the hero, Connor Larkin, was my first love. I was married by the time I "met" Jamie and Alexander, but Connor, oh my...

I was 17... my high school boyfriend, whom I really did love, paled in comparison to Connor.

If you can get past the somewhat dated writing, it is a great love story between Connor and Shelly and a fascinating history of Ireland, concentrating on the Easter Rising of 1916, but flashing back to the potato famine of the mid-1800s.

I;m digressing, but when I think back to my teenage years, it is always to 17. People seem to think that 16 is the pinnacle of adolescence, but I disagree-- I think it's 17, when you're hovering on adulthood, you can see it staring you in the face, just tantalizing out of reach and you want to be an adult so badly. You know you're doing the last of everything-- the last year of school, the last prom, the last time with your friends, with your significant other... in fact, wasn't Tatiana still 17 when she first met Alexander? LOL

Megan | 410 comments I just finished "Lullabies for Little Criminals" and am about to start "Marley and Me" tonight.

message 190: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I changed my mind about Bones of the Dragons. It was good until half way through. I picked up the second book, Secrets of the Dragon, only because I have to know what happens to the punk "hero". I'm also listening to Inkdeath (Inkheart, #3) by Cornelia Funke on audio. I liked the first 2 but this one is really getting on my nerves. It just finally got good (around disc 7) I'm also reading A Perfect Darkness which has been on and off for me. Probably why I am only reading it when I can't read S.O.D anymore. (which is also more off than on for me) But I'm picking up a couple Katie MacAlister books tonight from the library...

message 191: by Mara (new)

Mara | 19 comments Pam Jenoff's books are pretty good. I just finished The Kommandant's Girl and it was pretty good. World War II books are always interesting...
Im going to read her other books but right now I have Skeletons at the Feast borrowed from the library.

message 192: by Megan (new)

Megan | 410 comments I'm currently reading "The Kite Runner", it's very different to TBH but there are some very subtle similarities. I am finding it one of the rare books I've come across since reading the Bronze Horseman Trilogy which I haven't been able to put down and have thought about all day, and it's already made me cry my eyes out. Most definitely the only book that's come close in the past 5 years, I can't wait to read more.

message 193: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 549 comments Mod
I have often wondered about that book, if I would like it. Can't wait to hear what you think of it when you are done.

message 194: by Megan (new)

Megan | 410 comments So far it's sad - a sickening kind of sad. I haven't read enough to know if I'm right in saying this or completely off the mark, but it looks as though it will be the type of story that Atonement failed to be (in my opinion. I didn't like Atonement at all...)

message 195: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 549 comments Mod
I have heard that a lot about Atonement, which is why I didn't read it.

Noreen, I just ordered the 1st and 2nd book... Thanks!!

message 200: by Megan (new)

Megan | 410 comments Those thinking of reading The Kite Runner will not be disappointed. I have 1/3 to go and unless it has a dog of an ending, it will be up there with TBH as one of my all time favourites. It is VERY different but there are some similarities, it's not a romance though. Actually more like TBTHC. Make sure you have some tissues though...
