WELCOME, Dia!
I know what you mean--sometimes I think I'm the only person I know who really reads books! But you've come to the right place to talk about books, and not just Austen. We hope you like it here!

WELCOME, Minerva!
I definitely know what you mean about feeling like the only person who reads! But GoodReads is the right place to do something about that feeling, and this group is the right place for an Austen fan like you! Glad to have you with us!

Hi Vicki! Good for Lisa for bringing you in! Glad you like the group picture - nothing wrong with good eye candy! Looking forward to your comments.

Anyone who reads P&P yearly needs to be here Vicki

Love Jane Austen although I have not read all her books.. shocking I know, considering I am a fan, but maybe not good one (Obviously) excited to be part of this group!
Hugs and kisses
Safiyah
Welcome Safiyah! What fun that you still have Austen novels ahead of you! Thanks for joining us!

Simple, just erase your memory and read it again.
hahaha just kidding :)

It's ok; with every re-read I find something new, so it's almost as good as reading them the first time!

I wanted to introduce myself too. I write mysteries set in Jane Austen's era, so I enjoy doing research about the period. Persuasion is my favorite of Austen's novels, though I love them all.
Also, I reread Austen every few years--I agree that the reader makes new discoveries each time.
Best wishes!
Hello S.K.! Persuasion is my favorite also! I think Austen's historical period is one of the most interesting. Glad you have joined the group!

It's a very fun group of people - all ages, many different cities/states/countries, and all are fans of Jane Austen! The variety of experiences and opinions is wonderful and I love to watch the discussions take off and follow where it all goes. I hope you jump in!

I have so far read Pride and Prejudice, Emma, and Northanger Abbey. My daughter (13 years old) and I are now reading Austen's novels together. We've decided to read them chronologically based on when they were published. I am now going to read all of them with my daughter. She and I have some of the greatest discussions around character motivations, what we would do if, and so on.
I'm wondering if anyone else here has read any of Ann Radcliffe's novels as a result of reading Austen? My favorite Austen novel so far is Northanger Abbey because I just love the melodrama and ghost-story feel to it. It's so much fun watching Catherine grow up!
I'm looking forward to talking about Jane with others who appreciate her as much as I do!
Welcome Rachel! What a great thing to read Austen with your daughter! Happy to have you here!
WELCOME, fellow Rachel! :)
I'm a bit envious that you have the experience of reading Persuasion for the first time ahead of you, and I love that you are passing Austen on to the next generation! Glad you are with us!

Hi mariam very pleased to know you.. funny thing I did the same thing when I signed up on this site .. I looking for a janeites group
Welcome Mariam and Badia! More Janeites is a good thing!

I've never read Ann Radcliffe, but I've long thought I would like to. The Gothic genre interests me (all those images of female entrapment in a patriarchal culture). It would be fun to read Northanger Abbey and The Mysteries of Udolpho together. Perhaps we modern readers miss some of Austen's allusions, and in Northanger Abbey, these allusions are really part of the fun of her parody of Gothic fiction.
Anyway, how wonderful that you are sharing Austen with your daughter. Enjoy!

Hi Dia, nice to meet you too. I guess it's a natural thing to do for Austen lovers :)) Oh and The Count of Monte Cristo was my childhood's favourite book, I think it was the first book that made a huge impression on me.

Thank you for the warm welcome :))
WELCOME, Mariam and Badia!
We're happy to have more Janeites with us and I hope you all enjoy this group!
