Hey Monica! Welcome! I haven't read that one (it's on the Kindle) but I did meet the author at the 2011 JASNA AGM.

B | 2 comments hi I'm rebecca, but most people call me B. I've read, and re-read, the entire Austen collection and short stories. one of my favorite gifts was an early 19th century edition edition of Mansfield Park. it's so tiny with lovingly
worn leather and gilded interior.

Welcome B! Looking forward to your comments!

Sole | 2 comments Hi!
My name is Soledad. I'm 22 years, also I just graduated from the university, yay!.
About the Jane Austen obsession, I think it started about 8 or 9 years ago, when my best friend gave me some books to read during summer vacations, since then I always read at least one book of Jane Austen during summer. I have read the books first in spanish and recently I started to read in english, I found it very difficult since english is not my first language.
Nice to meet you!! :)

message 1112: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome to the group Soledad and many congratulations on your graduation! Thanks for your comment and it's nice to meet you too!

message 1114: by Alice-noir (new)

Alice-noir | 2 comments Hey there, I'm Alice! New to goodreads and now this group.

I discovered Jane Austen in the eighth grade having read an abridged version of Pride and Prejudice ( which was completely unworthy to even have Jane Austen's name on it ). Anyway, I ended up finding the actual book and though it was difficult to read at first, I loved everything about it.

I've read Pride and Prejudice ( as well as variations ) from cover to cover, but have only been lucky enough to watch the 2005 movie adaption, oh and the Bollywood adaption which was adorable :D I've also enjoyed Emma, the book and the movie version. I tried to read Sense and Sensibility, but found only Eleanor interesting for some reason.

Heck, I've even written fanfiction about Pride and Prejudice (which may or may not lower some people's view on me ), but I'm excited to discuss Jane Austen's work with all the wonderful people in this group.

Alice N.

message 1118: by Kirk (new)

Kirk (goodreadscomkirkc) | 86 comments Hi!

I have been following posts/discussions on Goodreads for a few months. I watched the 95/96 films(S&S, P&P, and Emma-Gwynth). I then read all the books. Since 2010(shameless plug, (pug?) warning), I have been the organizer/co-organizer of a Jane Austen bookclub. We, Austen in Boston, are on FB, Twitter, and Wordpress. Lol, I'm the token male in another local Jane Austen bookclub. Emma 09 is my favorite adaptation. P&P is my favorite novel. Favorite heroine: Marianne Dashwood (Jane and Lizzy B very close 2nd/3rd) Favorite hero: George Knightley

Tamara | 45 comments Hi, I love Austen especially Mansfield park but P&P is my favorite book ever!! Last year I discovered JAFF and joined a reading challenge of all things related to P&P. I had to write blog reviews of the books I had read and 7 months and 40 books later I am addicted. My addiction has lead me to Goodreads where I came across your group. It's lovely to join groups that do not think any the less of you for being a self confessed Janeite!!! Thank you for having me

Hi Megan, now that's a tough question lol. I am yet undecided as I have so many, but as they are all on my Kindle, these are the ones I have also bought in hard copy for my Austen dedicated shelf! An arranged marriage & The journey by Jan Hahn, Pamela Aidan's Trilogy, Cassandra Grafton's trilogy, Mr Darcy's diary by Maya Slater,Remembrance of the past by Lory Lilian, From this day forward by Joana Starnes, Mr Darcy takes a wife by Linda Berdoll, Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy Last man in the world by Abigail Reynolds and finally Bluebells in the morning By Karalynne Macrory!

message 1133: by Madgratess (new)

Madgratess | 65 comments Hi all! I have been obsessed with Jane and her books for years! I'm sure I am not in the minority when I put P&P as my favorite Austen novel. Persuasion is a close second. My obsession grew when I visited Bath during college and was immersed in the Jane culture. And I will admit that my favorite adaptation of P&P is the BBC version with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy!! :) Excited to be a part of a group that gets me!

Mira (miraid) | 2 comments Hello everybody! I'm Mira, from Jerusalem and I study architecture. I've loved Austen's works ever since I started reading them years ago. Persuasion has always been my favorite with P&P as a second. Glad to be among fellow Janeites!

Ah, helps to look around groups at times. (OK, am I the only one that thinks the navigation at Goodreads can be a tad... cumbersome at times?) Hello all!

I'm a relatively new Austin convert. I started getting hooked from the seeing the films then when I made the unlikely jump into reading romance a few years ago I finally got it together and read the originals. There's no going back after that!! :-)

message 1141: by Tweety (new)

Tweety (tweetyperkins) Hello everyone, my name is Tweety. I love cats, books, chocolate, anytime period before 1970.
I first read Jane Austen when I was eleven years old and cooped up with a cold. P&P was my first. I've read all her novels, but not her short ones. Every year I reread P&P ad Persuasion. They are my top favorites by JA. :)

message 1142: by [deleted user] (new)

"....anytime period before 1970."

Totally agree. Modern is vastly overrated!! :-)

message 1143: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Tweety! I'm a cat person also. I was a history major in college - other time periods are good!

Hello Valshar and Megan! What a lovely welcome! Cats are darlings aren't they? Modern is rather overrated, but I do read one every now and them. (Like two a year) I love history but, I can't say I'm good at dates! :)

message 1145: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1 comments I am definitely a newbie when it comes to Jane Austen. But so many love her, I want to read her books. I gather that P & P is the one to start with; it's on my shelf, so that will be ready to start reading.

I am an "oldie." I'm 62 and have been reading omnivorously since I was 5. Somehow I missed Jane Austen, though. I live in Trumbull CT, which is about 40 miles away from NYC. I have 4 wonderful adult children who live all around the country. And I love alone with mongrel dog named Hope.

I really look forward to meeting with the group.

Becca

message 1146: by [deleted user] (new)

P&P was my first as well. I didn't find the language too jarring as I used to regularly read the George Washington papers for university projects. (Starting that was a HUGE learning curve!) I still find that Austen-esque words creep into my vocabulary whenever I start another reread of her work. Does that happen to anyone else? The last time I went through all her books one after another. It took a good month to (mostly) get my vocabulary back to normal. (This is assuming I can ever lay claim to English that could be considered normal.) :-)
