LOL, Dhes...it's really funny. :) The one I'm reading is her second memoir - I already read the first titled: Bitter is the New Black : Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smartass, Or, Why You Should Never Carry A Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office which is also very funny.

I've found that some people - who can't relate to somebody this nuts - don't find the book funny but as a fellow urban dweller who knows some people as crazy as this one, I find all her shenanigans hilarious!

Carolyn F. I finished Bad to the Bone (WVMP Radio, #2) by Jeri Smith-Ready and am working my way through The Hathaway series and am reading Tempt Me at Twilight (The Hathaways, #3) by Lisa Kleypas .

MashJ | 733 comments I've just finished Jo Beverley's Devilish and Mary Jo Putney's The Rake. Both highly recommended although Devilish won't be appreciated if you haven't read the rest of the series as Rothgar is the fulcrum of the whole family.

I got that one last week in a trade. I was wanting to try this new "reality" romance, because I love true life love stories. Glad to hear it's good.:-)

message 1464: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I finished two books today: Bright Lights, Big Ass A Self-Indulgent, Surly, Ex-Sorority Girl's Guide to Why it Often Sucks in the City, or Who are These Idiots and Why Do They All Live Next Door to Me? by Jen Lancaster Too Good To Be True by Kristan Higgins .

The first one was non-fiction, very funny...the second one was more chick lit than romance (I say that because it was more about her finding a man to love than their relationship and there were a lot of funny circumstances going on.) The romance part was good (the guy was to die for) but I had some other issues with the plot. Having the sister's dating the heroine's ex-fiance was very icky to me.

DG, I loved, loved, loved, Nine Rules. Calli is probably my favorite heroine ever!

Carolyn F. I finished Tempt Me at Twilight (The Hathaways, #3) by Lisa Kleypas and Back When We Were Grownups by Anne Tyler , loved both books. I'm trying to finish Coming Undone (Brown Siblings, #2) by Lauren Dane , but it's so cliched I'm struggling. I'm squeezing in Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning .

I will Katherine - I'm finding these books just okay so far. Hopefully this is better than the others.

Oh yes- that one grew on me and is now possibly my favourite of the series. I like the second time around theme- I definitely prefer older heroes and heroines.

i've just finished The Bartered Bride- not quite as good as Thunder and Roses but close. I struggled to read the dramatic conclusion as it was a bit too tense! (that is a compliment not a complaint btw).

It was a really good book Katherine. I wish the heroine would have got her poop together earlier, but that's my only complaint.

message 1482: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I finished Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning , loved it. Now I'm reading Shoulda Been A Cowboy (Rough Riders, #7) by Lorelei James , but can't take this book to work because I don't have a cover its size, so I'm starting Friday Night Bites (Chicagoland Vampires, #2) by Chloe Neill to read at work.

Carolyn . . .What's the issue with Coming Undone? I've looked at it, but if it's not good, I don't want to bother.

I've liked her other books, so this is probably just an aberration, but the dialogue was so bad. "I love you like a cupcake." And then something like, "That's great, want to lick me." Now the woman is in her 30s not 12 and the guy is almost 40. It was so eyerolling I started getting dizzy and it was pretty much throughout the whole book. I like good erotica, but this wasn't good. Even the storyline didn't hold my interest. So, I'd skip this one and read her others.

ahhh . .. gotcha! I read a book a couple of months ago and the guy kept saying "I want to eat you out". For some reason that phrase is so icky to me! Especially when there are SOOO many more ways to say that.

message 1488: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I'll sometimes repeat some of these phrases to my husband and he looks at me with a "What the hell!" face. Cracks me up.

LOLOLOL, Caro! I agree that the dialogue sounds lame and childish. Not necessarily what readers look for in erotica!

For me, if the dialogue doesn't match the characters of the time, it really pulls me out of the story and I cannot get into it. That's why Nine Rules is going to get a 3 stars for me despite the good story. When Ralston asked Callie if one of her items in her list was to 'land' his brother, I almost wondered if she was going to reply 'no way!' There's nothing I hate more than modern slang in historicals.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) | 2140 comments Suzanne wrote: "I finished reading that recently Carol! It is great isnt it?"

Suzanne - down to the last few pages. I agree with it's a great book. I just love dry humour in the book.

message 1492: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Some of those old 1970s/1980s books have the best lines. Make a topic of it and I'll add to it as I go - it will be hysterical! There was one Goodread friend who was quoting some of the colorful phrases for a ladies privates and it cracked me up. I'll have to go back and see what she wrote.

That's what I like about her humour as well, I also liked that the h/H were older rather then debutantes, it gave the book a much more mature feel. I also loved reading Olivia's letters, they had me cracking up!
