Collision Course

Immovable object? Meet the irresistible force.

Paramedic Aaron Chase doesn't have anything against love. It just comes with a lot of responsibility, like when he had to raise his sister and brothers after their drug-addicted mom took off for good. Now that the last one is off to college, Aaron's anticipating enjoying life on his own terms. He certainly wasn't expecting Joey Miller to accidentally drop into his life.

Joey's sexy, funny and annoyingly optimistic, and his tendency to get into trouble keeps sending him Aaron's way. Even the fact that Joey works for the hated social work system isn't reason enough to keep him out of Aaron's bed.

Joey knows all about love. He's fallen in it ten times-he thinks. It's not that he can't tell the difference between sex and love. All that experience has to count for something, right? With Aaron it's different. Maybe because there's something to fight for.

This time Joey's fallen for good. He's not going to let number eleven get away.

This love story may overheat readers or the devices used to read it. Explicit male/male sex scenes involving extra penetration, toys, and spanking.

K.A. Mitchell

43 books1,110 followers
K.A. Mitchell discovered the magic of writing at an early age when she learned that a carefully crayoned note of apology sent to the kitchen in a toy truck would earn her a reprieve from banishment to her room. Her career as a spin-control artist was cut short when her family moved to a two-story house, and her trucks would not roll safely down the stairs. Around the same time, she decided that Chip and Ken made a much cuter couple than Ken and Barbie and was perplexed when invitations to play Barbie dropped off. She never stopped making stuff up, though, and was surprised to find out that people would pay her to do it. Although the men in her stories usually carry more emotional baggage than even LAX can lose in a year, she guarantees they always find their sexy way to a happy ending.

nope.

description

Aaron’s whisper buzzed the skin under Joey’s ear. “Ass like this.” A hot palm cradled the curve. “Must be busy. Bet you don’t need much to get ready.”

It had been over a month and getting that dick in wouldn’t be easy. But Joey managed to bite his lip and keep that information to himself, even if he couldn’t understand why he wanted to let Aaron think he was a slut. Aaron’s hand rubbed across Joey’s ass, stretching and pulling at the skin. Aaron could think Joey was a slut, but that dick wasn’t getting near his ass without… “Lube,” he finished the thought out loud.

It wasn’t a laugh. Just a puff of breath against his ear, but Joey felt it all over his skin. He shifted his hips back and forth, nice friction on his dick while cold slick gel dripped into the crack of his ass.

“No.” Aaron lifted Joey’s hips off the stretcher.

With his pants bunched around his calves, Joey couldn’t spread his legs very far, certainly couldn’t get one up on the stretcher. Aaron grabbed Joey’s hands and placed them on the cabinet above the stretcher, leaving him bent over but not touching it. Yeah, Joey got off a little on being manhandled—if he knew what he was getting into—with someone he could trust. He had no idea what Aaron had planned, beyond the obvious, and he certainly didn’t trust him. Except he did. Because of that feeling, that sureness that resonated up from the soles of his feet every time Aaron touched him.

The lightest brush of a fingertip at his hole and then Aaron slammed two fingers in right down to the bottom knuckle, twisting and rubbing, until Joey rocked his hips. The first sharp thrust had sliced into him like fire, but now the deep twist and press made him grind back for more. As soon as that sweet rub coiled in his stomach and made him moan, Aaron slipped in another finger and fucked him hard.

DNF. Unfortunately I was on collision course with this book pretty quickly, and I cannot rate it because I put it aside when I was 12 % done.

Photobucket

Too bad it's not written "TOO MUCH SEX WILL BLUR THE VISION".

I didn't particularly like it. Gee, Baba, who would have guessed?

Well, I just like some kind of a build-up. And this was not going to happen. A bad situation, paramedic walks on scene, looks at Eye Candy, likes his ass, c*ck is twitching in front of my nose all the f*cking time, and they get it on in the ambulance after they rescued the woman and the kid. And Aaron (the paramedic) didn't even like Eye Candy. He wanted just some a** f*cking. Seriously?? Weird. I was annoyed. It rubbed me the wrong way. If you can suspend belief and don't mind twitching--you know what--then give it a try. You may even enjoy it. *shrugs*

My GR friend Lenore told me there is sex every few pages. Just not my cuppa. Meaning, Ms. Mitchell is not meant to be one of my favorite authors. Not now, not ever. I did a c*ck search on my Kindle. Do you want to guess how many pages popped up that mentioned the term c*ck? Uh, no comment.

What didn't suit me may suit you though. Happy c*ck reading...maybe.

I think I've discovered a new favourite author.

K.A. Mitchell's stories are fluffy and not fluffy at the same time. I can't explain it. They have this "love conquers all" feeling but they're also a little angsty and have wonderfully flawed characters and are deliciously hot (the sex scenes are abundant and make your blood pressure skyrocket) and a tiny bit dirty (spanking, anyone?) and always finish on a positive, hopeful but HFN note that also lends them a certain degree of credibility lacking in other similar stories.

Regardless, like I always say, it's fiction and it's romance so you also have to suspend disbelief at some points (in Collision Course, it was the whole hostage situation) but the author always manages to wrap her story up beautifully so I don't mind.

So beware, GR friends. I'll be gushing over K.A. Mitchell's stories/characters all over your home pages from now on.

ETA: I just discovered two short stories with Aaron and Joey (a Christmas and a Valentine's one) on the author's LJ. You can read them here and here.

M/M Bingo
Round 8 - Week 7
"Best Gay Novel Series"

**************************************************

3.5 stars

You know what I really like about the KA Mitchell books I’ve read to date?  She kinda FORCES you into liking some real asswipes. Ha!  And this could NOT be more true than with Aaron Chase.

Aaron…well, let’s just say he’s bristly.  He’s had a really tough life…raising his brothers and sisters…seeing them through some tragic stuff.  And now that they’re grown, he wants no-strings-attached.  He does not want a relationship of any kind.

Enter Joey Miller.  Joey is a consummate dater…or rather jumps from relationship to relationship.  He’s sweet and has a bit of sass…kind of an accident waiting to happen.  And just when you think this is teetering on the brink of one-perfect-guy-saving-the-other…the author reveals Joey has his own issues – he’s a master manipulator with a bottom-lip pout to get him whatever he wants.

I love these two together.  They have this bite to them…their conversations, the way they maneuver around each other, how they handle (and most often don’t handle) the feelings that are going on between them.  Two imperfect characters…perfectly suited for one another.

There’s drama, some angst, some attitude, some fluff…and a WHOLE LOT OF SEX.  I think some reviews I’ve read said ‘too much sex’ and I do believe a book CAN have too much.  However, the sex made sense in this one.  It was the only way Aaron communicated and related to men in the past.  It was how he both protected himself and then eventually gave himself over.  Their relationship was ALL about the sex…until it suddenly wasn’t JUST about the sex.

I was surprised myself how much I enjoyed this one.  I think Aaron & Joey might surpass Quinn & Eli (Bad Boyfriend) as my favorite KA Mitchell couple! :)

This is book 2 in the Florida series but can be read as a standalone (I did not read book 1 and didn’t have a problem at all)

And...should you become an Aaron & Joey fan as well, here are a couple added shorts to their story:

Sigh, I see that a lot of my network friends love this, so I will be the anomaly. The truth is, IF I go with a romance, I would love to have a story happening outside of the bed. I would love something BUILD UP before or outside the sex. This one is basically like the previous book in the series (Diving in Deep), it's sex in every chapter, so if I have to remember what the story is, it will be: Joel meet Aaron, sex, sex, sex, something happens to Joel 'cause he's a klutz, sex, sex, sex, Aaron being a jerk, sex, sex, sex.

So in the end, just like what I did with "Diving in Deep", I jump into the last pages, find out what happen, and end it once and for all. I'm sure that when I skip it, it's all about sex anyway. I think I might have to postpone reading the 3rd book in this series, because honestly (I can't believe I'm saying this), I'm tired with all the sex ...

This is definitely in my top 5 all-time favorite M/M books. I absolutely love this one. It's full of angst, nasty smutty sex, more angst, splashes of romance and hot, sweaty sexy men. EMT's round this out to make it irresistible for me. Aaron and Joey remain one of my favorite couples of all time, even though Aaron is still a total asshole. *dreamy sigh*

I also have this book to thank for my obsession with Goldfrapp.

Direct quote from the book:
With a soft gasp from Aaron, the soundtrack started up in Joey’s brain again. Goldfrapp’s “Ooh La La” was perfect for blow jobs. If he sang along, his tongue did interesting things.

If you've never heard Ooh La La, I uploaded it here. I fucking LOVE it, along with this book.

Highly, highly recommended!!!

There was plenty of steam here, and I am not complaining. But I thought the story lacked real character or relationship development. I wanted more tension, a slower burn. I also wanted Aaron to be less of an ass. And I wanted a stronger HEA.

This was a perfectly readable book, although there were some jarring POV shifts, a few typos, and name switches (the little boy went from Seth Nathan in chapter 1 to Seth Ethan in chapter 2; how could an editor NOT notice that?).

A lot of my friends loved this book. I'm in the minority here, so feel free to pay me no mind.

There's a lot of things I generally like about KA Mitchell's books but this wouldn't be one of them.

And maybe it's because I find it hard not to start a marathon-eye-rolling-session with the teenage-caretaker-to-50-siblings conflict.

I actually enjoy Mitchell's remote-controlled sex-on-demand approach but not even the promise of some of that..could entice me to stick around. DNFd @40%.

This is getting to be a habit, reading books out of their chronological order. But what the hey, it does not change how good they are.

Joey Miller is a cuddly, optimistic, manipulative social service worker who can't stay in a relationship for long. He has had 10, and he moves to keep himself in virgin territory, till he screws another one up. His ability to hurt himself on a regular basis, lands him in the arms of EMT Aaron Chase. Aaron wears his angers at life like a suit of armor. He's life has never been easy, raising his siblings with an overwhelming hatred for the social service system that has let him and his family down on a consistence basis for years. Fantastic sex brings Joey and Aaron together, but love may tear them apart.

Once again, K.A. Mitchell has given me a fantastic read. I give it an ambulance fill of stars.

Rack up another winner for me from K.A. Mitchell. She is going to have to write faster, I will have read everything shortly.

I must say that I enjoyed this book more than the previous one! Yes, there is lots and lots of sex, but the plot is much more interesting, the characters more consistent, and I even found myself liking Aaron, even when he was so cold to sweet Joey!

This is the second book I have read by this author and I did enjoy Regularly Scheduled Life. In this book however, I just could not really care about the relationship between Joey and Aaron.

To me, Aaron never stopped being an a-hole and never stopped treating Joey like a random hook up. Joey I had less of a problem with but he still didn't grab me. He kept being described as a manipulator, though I never saw that. He told Aaron he wouldn't stand for being treated like crap, yet he allowed it throughout the book. I had a hard time remembering that these were two 30 year old men and not a couple of kids with the way they acted.

I had no problem with the writing and would read another title by the author, this was just a miss for me.

I liked it better than the first. It is mostly just sex… the two guys meet, have sex, treat each other like shit (mostly Aaron, Joey is just annoying) then have sex, back to being jerks, have sex. And so on.

Yeah the characters are not really developed as characters, they both have back stories but they never really develop anything from them. There was no romance or connection between the two guys. When all they do is argue and have sex not sure how they can be saying they love each other, they didn’t know anything about each other yet…

Joey is simply adorable! My favorite Mitchell book so far. There's lots of sex but it was crucial to the development of Joey and Aaron's relationship. There were a few scenes had my eyes rolling to the tune of "like that would ever happen" but you know what, I loved it.

Joey and Aaron are perfect for each other. Joey was just what Aaron needed in his life. I just wish it didn't end so abruptly.

Couldn't finish this one because there's waaaaay too much sex in it. I mean I'm only at 36% and there has already been 6 sex scenes. + I don't see any connection between the two MCs and neither do I care for them.

3.5 stars. I felt closer to a 3 than a 4, though, so that's why it gets a 3 rating for GR purposes.

I wanted to like this book more than I actually did. Objectively, the story was written well, and the sexytimes were HOT. The characters were fleshed out, but, on the other hand, I also didn't really connect with them. That lack of connection is why I rounded down, to be honest.

I was pleasantly surprised by how Aaron grew and revealed more of himself over the course of the book. His assholeness in the beginning really had me feeling wary about how the story would unfold. Fortunately, there's visible growth and affection that builds as the story progresses.

What actually ended up feeling odd to me, then, was Joey's feelings for Aaron. I understand that Joey thought Aaron was a fantastic lover, and Joey also felt that "insta-attraction" sort of fluttering in his heart. However, after Aaron was such an asshole, I kind of hoped Joey would have more self-respect than to let Aaron walk all over him like that. Joey does stand up for himself at one point, but he set such a low standard (something along the lines of "don't be an asshole after you fuck me") that I still didn't think he was getting much out of their pairings.

The sexytimes scenes were numerous and smoking hot. They actually helped to reveal more of the characters over the course of the story, which, to me, is an indicator of an erotic romance done well.

Overall, this was a well-crafted book, but I always felt a little bit removed from the story and the characters.

I went on a K.A. Mitchell bender - if four books in two days is considered a bender - recently and breezed through her first two Florida books and both her Ohio books. Based on this cute little tidbit that gives you an insight on how busy my social life is , I believe I'm qualified to mention some things to expect when picking up a K.A. Mitchell book.

1. Angst. And more angst. And if you feel like you've enough angst, there will be some more. Think angst buffet with angst for dessert.
2. Sex. Usually in equal if not more amount than the angst. Different positions, interesting locations, with some pretty hot dirty talk thrown in. Most of the time, I just skim through the sex parts so I can wallow in more angst.
3. Asshole. One of the MCs is always an insensitive asshole with a tendency towards serious douchebaggery. This all helps feed the angst.
4. Awww inducing HEA. The ending is always pretty satisfying. The asshole usually crawls or begs and realizes how much of a tool he's been, the non-asshole will get what he deserves, and you'll be left hugging your Kindle and telling yourself the angst was worth it.

Collision Course covers all the four expectations. There was so much angst what with Aaron's issues with his bringing up his siblings and Joey being alternately a doormat and being totally you-go-girl, the sex got to a point where you skim to get to the orgasm and continue with the story, Aaron fit the asshole bill to the T, and the ending had you burping and asking for more.

The fact that I know what I'm getting when I pick up a Mitchell book is a good thing, IMO. It saves me from unnecessary disappointments and therapeutic rants. I know that, when I'm in the mood for a shitload of angst and some awesome albeit excessive male-male sex, a Mitchell book will bring it.

And this is not saying that the books are mediocre pieces of Kindle filler. K.A. Mitchell is one of the most genuine voices in male-male romances. In my view anyway. Her dialogues flow naturally, her characters flawed and believable, and the issues and angst (however much I mock them) serve a purpose in the story. She doesn't shove a problem between her MCs just so there can be a problem. The guys are well developed enough that you understand where they're coming from even when they're being an asshole about it.

So to close, this is a pretty great m-m romance read filled with angst, lots of man lovin', and an HEA that you can get behind. As long as you're in the mood for any one of the mentioned expectations, this book will definitely deliver.

Paramedic Aaron is impressed and in lust when he first meets do-gooder Joey at an accident scene but when he learns that Joey works for the Florida Department of Children's Services, his own bad experiences with the agency are almost enough to cool his ardor. But then again, with a fine ass like that...

I went into this novel expecting to be underwhelmed. The series has gotten rave reviews but when I read the first installment Diving in Deep I was unimpressed. The characters seemed a bit plastic and one-dimensional. The sex scenes were hot but too similar and repetitive. And I was left with the overall impression that the book had too much sex and not enough plot and character development.

This time around was a completely different experience. While the characters are more macho than those I'm used to and less in touch with their feelings, they seemed to be more complete people with back-stories and they possessed distinctive, well thought out, well motivated points of view.

Even the way that we get to know them in snippets is organically motivated by the way that they have a sometime adversarial, often prickly developing relationship. Even the sex scenes are well integrated since the couple's relationship begins as a sexual tryst and the characters are struggling to get to know one another right along with us the readers.

When one adds to that mix with characters that are genuinely likable and less perfect this time around, it works. Plus the sex scenes are hot and inventive. I'd never thought of a chess clock as a sex toy but now... Plus there is the brilliant use of a carnival style high-striker strongman game with a sexually suggestive twist.

Finally there is a struggle for dominance in the relationship that is all too rare in m/m fiction. Their discussions about "Topping from beneath." rang true in a way that I've often felt is missing in M/M romance.

By all means, check this one out.

Collision Course is a sequel of sorts to Diving in Deep, in that it is the story of Joey, a secondary character from Diving in Deep. You do not need have to read that one first, though; in fact, I discourage it. I was not a fan.

This one is so much better.
On page 20, when they had yet to have a conversation and didn't really even know each other's names but still decided to have a quick blow job in the parking lot and then sex in the back of an ambulance, I said, "Oh, great, here we go again." My main complaint about Diving in Deep was way too much sex with very little emotion.
And this one still has it in spades, and during the first half it is just casual sex. And Aaron was such an asshole, I couldn't figure out why Joey didn't kick him to the curb at the very beginning. I guess that's the difference between men and women; I would have ditched Aaron pretty early on, but I guess a gay guy will put up with almost anything for great sex?
But as the story progressed, the relationship actually developed in a convincing way. Whereas Diving in Deep was just a montage of confusing arguments, this time Mitchell was able to create characters that I could relate to, with conflicts that I could believe and understand. And as the connection between the characters grew, the sex got hotter, so even that didn't bother as much as it did in DiD.
By the end, I was invested in this story and I cared about their HEA. My only complaint is that I've grown accustomed to those little happy ever after epilogues that show me that the couple I've grown so attached to actually makes it and are deliriously happy. There was no epilogue here, so I'm left wondering if they really were able to make it work. I hope so. :) (Yes, I know they're not real!)

Joey is totally one of my all time heroes. He just gets under my skin. When he meets a little boy with a lisp? "'Seth Nathan Thatcher.' Sef Nafan Fatcher. That was just cruel." and I cracked up.

And Aaron? Poor boy, he tried to fight it. He really did. But as they say, Resistance is Futile. Or in Aaron's own words: "Do-gooder had been left alone for awhile and fuck if he hadn't moved in."

This review isn't following my normal MO. I have no idea as to why, but I'm ready to roll with it. I think this book fucked my mind up. In all the good ways.

"You look like somebody told you they'd stopped making lube." and I am officially cracking up, big time.

or

"Princess?"
"You do get this kind of bossy, don't-fuck-with-my-tiara attitude when you're pissed."

or

"Dylan and Darryl exchanged looks over Joey's head. It was just like being around Noah and Cameron. Joey needed to hang out with shorter people."

or (and this one took the bloody prize and RAN)

"... rubbing Aaron's dick from yeah to oh fuck yeah so fast Aaron thought Joey must have left it programmed to respond to him."

Yeah, I think I can safely say the giggle-snorts were only cut off by huge, genuine belly-laughs or howling mirth.

I love it when my porn makes me laugh. Too.
Need I punctualize that I am already reading book #3 in the series? I didn't think so.

I'm a huge fan of KA Mitchell. I loved Diving in Deep, and I loved this book, too. The book is long, but it was so good I stayed up until past 3am to finish it. The ending did seem a bit dragged out (I actually scrolled down to see how much longer it would go on), but I'm still giving this book 5 stars since everything else was so fantastic. And the scene with a drunk Joey and Cameron (Noah's boyfriend from Diving In Deep) trying to deal with him, is worth a five all by itself. Joey is just so adorable. :)

I enjoyed the characterization in this book. How the author developed Joey and Aaron, and how she got them from chapter one to their HEA. Aaron's not a man who wears his heart on his sleeve, and it was interesting to see how Joey got under his skin. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a great m/m romance. And I would recommend reading Diving in Deep first - you don't have to read it to understand what's going on in Collision Course, but it will make the book more enjoyable. I did so love Noah and Cameron, and it was great to see them show up in this book.

The story is full of angst, steamy sex, more angst, some sweet romance, more intense sex... Yes, there's lots of sex

but it was crucial to the development of Joey and Aaron's relationship.
"Fuck, Aaron swore they were sharing a pulse."

And it all lead to

Joey and Aaron are absolutely perfect for each other. Joey was just what Aaron needed in his life *happy sigh*

"Nothing he hadn't seen before, and everything he wanted to see.

It took him a while to figure it out though.
"I love you. I'm not going anywhere."

I want to know what happen next...

Steamy, angsty, intense M/M romance... did I mention lots o sex...

Joey is on his way to meet some friends when he witnesses an accident. While waiting for the paramedics, he helps out a mother a her young son. That's where he meets Aaron - an arrogant, asshole he just has to have. The two end up having sex in the ambulance that night and Joey tries to figure out their relationship.

I absolutely loved this novel. So much that I was up until 2 am reading it. I kept telling myself "one more chapter" but I just couldn't stop reading it. Mitchell did an excellent job with creating a fast paced story that I just had to finish.

Her characters are unique and realistic. They all have a lot of depth - even the side characters. She did a great job of creating and showing relationships. Not just between Joey and Aaron, but between Joey and Noah and Aaron and his siblings.

If you like M/M romance novels, this is a must read. So far it's one of my favorite in the genre. There's a good balance between plot scenes and sex scenes. It's not too long but it's not too short - the right amount for what needs to be said. Again, I highly recommend this novel.

Aaron and Joey meet at an accident scene and instant attraction between them. Joey is Noah's ex from Diving in Deep (Florida Books, #1) by K.A. Mitchell and after he dumps Mark, his latest beau, moves again, to Jacksonville this time. Joey doesn't know exactly what he wants in a man, and although he has some ideas, he definitely knows what he doesn't want and has 10 exes strewn across the country to prove it.

Aaron, on the other hand, doesn't do exes because he doesn't do relationships, no meet the family, no pets together, wham bam, thank you man for him. He's just spent the last twelve years of his life raising his younger sister and brothers and they're finally off to college.

Needless to say, both Joey and Aaron have baggage. But they can't keep their hands and other body parts off or in each other. Lots of smokin' sexin' in this one. But is sex enough? You'll have to read to find out.

I liked the story and characters for the most part, but there was just too much sex. I knew it was going to be ridiculous at the very beginning when Aaron, the paramedic, shows up on an accident scene where there are serious injuries and instead of figuring out who needs help, he's scoping out Joey's bubble butt and thinking about fucking him. Ummm, when it comes to their jobs (especially one where lives are on the line), but a paramedic, when he rolls up on a multi-car crash is not thinking with the little head. He's going thru numerous situations in his mind to prepare himself for what injuries he may encounter. He's not going to stop and look at a guy's ass to admire it. I also found Aaron's attitude ridiculous calling Joey a wannabe dogooder because he was helping the woman of the minivan from bleeding out and also being mean and snarky about her kid in the back seat. Another unrealistic reaction. No paramedic is going to criticize someone for helping keep a person alive and keeping their child from freakout out until they arrive.

I also didn't get the whole deal about Joey being "a manipulating bastard" when it came to his relationship with Aaron. I was totally perplexed at that. Aaron pursued him, insisted he stay with him when he hurt his shoulder, and then out of the blue, for no reason at all other than seeing him sleep on the couch with his twin brothers, turns around and accuses Joey of manipulating himself into his life. WTF? Then later Joey admits to doing it? Again, major face palm here for me because I still didn't see what he did other than everything Aaron wanted him to do.

Overall, the story was good. No major angst or climax at the end either like in the first story. And wayyyy too much sex for my tastes. At least it was hot sex and inventive.

A ver.

"Fucking prepackaged happiness. The only happy people in this world are the ones who don't know what the fuck is going on"

COLLISION COURSE is my first full length novel by K.A. Mitchell. Though this is the second book in the Florida books series, I didn’t feel lost at all. Though I do still wish I started with book one, DIVING IN DEEP because the characters in that book do make some regular appearances. No biggie though because I plan on going back and reading it anyways (and continue the series!)

The first thing I loved about this book is the dirty sex. You will not find me complaining AT ALL in that regard. Mitchell definitely knows what she is doing and she really excels at creating a believable romance between Aaron Chase and Joey Miller.

Second thing I loved is the way the relationship bloomed. Much of the character development and plot was key to exploring this relationship and I think it really tied everything together to make for a well-rounded, well- written romance between two men.

Third thing I loved? The great dialogue. I think I could have read this book strictly for its dialogue and still have given it a high rating. So entertaining and fun, this book definitely has me hooked on Mitchell’s writing. Make no mistake, K.A. Mitchell is at the top of her game!

In this book you will find an angry bully falling in love with a klutzy, care-free man. The bully calmed most of his jerkish tendencies and the carefree lover didn't take the bully's BS.

Oh and they had a LOT of sex. A LOT!

I liked the ending and Aaron's and Joey's life story were rough ones but they found love...in a hopeless place.

(I'm quoting Rihanna but the song feels apt.)
