We just got back from taking my son to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It was mobbed, and we're lucky we got to sit together. He loved it. It was better than I expected it to be.

We came out of the theater to sleet. Ugh!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments I hate sleet. Nasty, dangerous stuff - and not even pretty!

This looks very cool! Wish this had been available all those years I was homeschooling and trying to teach Lit & Geography! :)

The previews looked pretty scary, Christine. You are a good mom!

I had to take him, he's 11. It's my obligation as the mother of an eleven year old boy.

Better choice than Alice, too! (You are still a great mom, obligatory or not.) :)

Good morning to everyone! Woke up with an insane headache, but I intend to beat it rather than let it get to me today (I have had too many lately, life must go on). My very exciting day includes laundry (don't laugh, you know that you are jealous!), cleaning, and hopefully finishing my book before the Michigan State basketball game (go Spartans! Woot Woot!).

That Google Lit Trip thing is awesome!

message 1009: by [deleted user] (new)

Morning Christine! I'll even root for the Spartans today if it helps you to feel better! :p

The sun is shining and we'll be doing some cleaning, too, but I'm looking forward to the day!

Whoa! Now that is a true friend, haha! Of course they aren't showing the game here.

My head is doing somewhat better, and I did finish my book. I'm trying to figure out how the heck to make a blog post (book blog, not dog) without spoilers on this one. I have all of these things that I want to say, but I don't post spoilers...it may be impossible this time to say anything.

Thanks, Lee. I seem to have marathon headaches lately. I'm learning just to push through when I can.

I've had a lot of headaches lately too Christine so I know how it feels. The crazy weather doesn't help. The ones that wake you up are nasty.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments There was a period, some years ago, when I woke up with a migraine every day. For three weeks. Oy.

Wow. How awful Susanna. I wish there was a miracle cure for migraines. I just get 2 or 3 a month but that's enough.

Ouch! I feel sorry for migraine sufferers, not that it helps much.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments It really is one of the upsides of my stroke - I think I've had only a handful of headaches, and no migraines, in six years now.

Migraines and tension headaches are horrible. I think many of them are caused by both food and weather triggers. I don't get a lot of migraines, but when I get tension (and muscle related) headaches, they often last for days. And, taking Aspirin or Advil does not always help, either. Actually, I've found that certain essential oils, like rosemary, lemon and peppermint really help with my headaches (peppermint oil is also good if you put some on your neck or shoulders).

Susanna, I wonder if the constant headaches and migraines that you were experiencing prior to your stroke might have been a warning of too much tension, of a stroke that was waiting to happen. But, I am glad that you are not constantly plagued by migraines anymore, but at what a price.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments I think it's quite possible, yes.

Me too. I often get headaches due to weather and when my neck gets sore, but stress and tension also cause headaches for me, so that's kind of frightening.

Lee wrote: "Susanna wrote: "I think it's quite possible, yes."

Don't think about it that way, Lee. I don't know that migraines are necessarily indicative of stroke potential (not that I have researched it much; I have other health issues I worry about in my family tree). Susanna just unluckily had both. I hope you've recovered well, Susanna.

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
I hope not Jeannette. Both of my parents have experienced strokes but I don't know if that means I will.

Susanna, I haven't done any research on strokes but are they preventable with diet and lifestyle changes?

Mary wrote: "What an ending to that Michigan State game!! Congratulations Christine!!"

Thanks! We watched the ending on the internet, how exciting! I can't believe it wasn't on television here. I waited for updates while dog blogging.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments Well, some of them are preventable; but I had an underlying condition we didn't catch until afterwards. Cerebral vasculitis.

Good Morning, Barb! I've already been out and got the oil change done on the car. A big accomplishment for me! :) Hope everyone has a great day!

message 1030: by [deleted user] (new)

Has happened to me, too. As my daughter got into the higher grades in her high school courses, she does most of her work on-line and doesn't need me to teach her much. I'm kind of "free" most of the time now!

message 1031: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey, aren't you supposed to be working?? LOL Once my daughter heads to college (she's a junior now), it will just be me and the animals (and the computer). My husband is lucky to get time to eat his lunch. I'm going to suggest he switch careers! :)

message 1032: by [deleted user] (new)

My husband used to come home, but I felt like a waitress/short order cook. He ran in, ate, left. No time for even much of a quick squeeze! Now he's in management, so it's meetings all day. He does send me an email, sometimes. :(

I wanted to share a slice-of-life story from Ames this week. It was an exciting day for the Ames PD!

Cow on the run!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments I am singing that headline to the tune of "Band on the Run" now. LOL!

ETA: Watching local news, story about a goat on the run. "He tried to break into my house so I called the sheriff!" Snort!

message 1035: by [deleted user] (new)

The cow covered quite a bit of ground and had at least five patrol cars chasing it. When we passed it, it was just standing in a field, near the vet hospital.

Is the goat okay?

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments I don't know! Maybe there'll be an update at eleven.

message 1037: by [deleted user] (new)

I can take giant cockroaches and other insects but spiders do me in as well. Ugghhhhh!

I have had the flu for the last three days and now my daughter has it so we are spending another quiet day at home. I was able to read North and South while snuggled up in bed yesterday. It was so delicious I ripped through it.

Thanks Jeannette. :-)
The only good thing about being sick is having a reason to lie down and read a bit more during the day!

message 1046: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Ugh. Lee, I'm glad you have more time to read, hopefully, but I'm sorry that you're still sick, and I'm really sorry Maggie has it: awful for her and more work for you.

Spiders freak me out. Charlotte's Web never "worked" for me (to feel positively about spiders) although it's one of my favorite books.
