I was just saying the same kind of thing to Jim. Although it's school/weather related complaints for me. The dreary, dark blech outside is getting to me.

Today is a busy day for us. I really hope to get at least a little quality time with Little Bee. I need to find out what the big secret is! AH!!!!!!!!!!

Jeannette, is that Shani Davis the speedskater? He's cute! I'm glad he won gold today. "

No, I think he just a hot-looking actor on a horse! Congrats to Davis and White, btw.

Oh me oh my! I thought that was pretty provocative for him to be doing a commercial like that!

Lee wrote: "Oh me oh my! I thought that was pretty provocative for him to be doing a commercial like that! "
Yes, I can't imagine many of the Olympic athletes doing that kind of commercial, except maybe Bodi Miller (yuk).

We just howled with laughter during the commercial and we all "blinked" when he said "Look down" as the towel fell away! lol

I WILL make time to read Little Bee tonight so that I can start Cutting for Stone by Saturday at least. (uh oh, Survivor is on tonight though, isn't it?...and the Olympics....errrrr)

Yeah, I'm a no go zone on Thursday nights at 8pm! I love Survivor, and this season seems especially fun.

Me too! I think this season with Heros vs. Villians will be a great one. I've got favorites on both sides, so I'm a happy watcher :)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments The debut episode was the best I have seen in many years.

The pairs skating, in which I am interested, should be on later in the evening, so things should (crosses fingers) work out.

I was so happy when I discovered last week's episode was two hours. I haven't checked for tonight yet.

Hannah (hannahr) I think it's just 1 hour tonight.

Hannah (hannahr) Christine wrote: "Do spill! Who are your picks?"

Hey Christine! Another Survivor fan? Woo hoo - we're going to have fun talking.

My picks to make top three are:
Russell (I do like his gynormous ego - he makes me laugh he's soo full of himself. He should have won Samoa IMO).
Parvati - She's strong physically and she plays a good mental game.
James - my sentimental favorite. I just like him and *hope* he can play a better mental game this time around.

Dislike:
-Tyson
-Tyson
-Tyson
-Tyson
- Oh, did I mention Tyson?

What about you?

message 714: by [deleted user] (new)

Hahaha!!! Because I dislike Tyson, I actually like Tyson. He's so...just wrong...that he makes me laugh.
I also like Russell, although his bad sport behavior at the last finale bugged me some. Always love James! I'd love to see him win. I like Stephanie a lot. This will be a fun season.

Arrggghh! Just say NO to TYSON!! lol!

OK, I'm going to make a prediction on tonights episode. Join in with your own if you like!

Reward Challenge Winner: Villians
Immunity Challenge Loser: Villians
Voted Off: Sandra

(I'm gonna be sooo wrong I know).

message 716: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannahr) Christine wrote: "I wouldn't mind that prediction. Sandra does nothing for me. But it looks like Rob might be going based on his fainting thing, no?"

Good point. Perhaps it's just the heat that gets to him - I'd hate to lose him yet, especially since he was so cool about the fire starting.

I found Boston Rob incredibly annoying in his first season, but it seems he's matured (he should have).

message 717: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
I hope it's not Boston Rob going tonight. And Sandra has zero charisma so I hope she goes bye-bye soon.
We made it home just in time for the start! Whoohoo!

message 718: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) You guys are making me wish I'd watched this season. I almost did. I started watching in season 2 and watched several of them. Well, I'm not starting tonight because I want to watch men's figure skating and women's half pipe snowboarding, mostly the skating.

Well, I was as wrong as I predicted I'd be! Who saw THAT boot off coming??

Some thoughts about last night's episode *(spoilers ahead)*

Boston Rob - he continues to amaze me with his new attitude. Marriage and fatherhood have definately taken some of his cockiness away, or else the producers are giving him one heck of a good edit.

James - woah! He's not the same gentle giant as last 2 times. Guy needs to calm down and take a chill pill. Totally NOT cool to tell Stephanie to "shut up". Disappointing.

The heros are going to self destruct very quickly if they don't pull themselves together, but the battle lines have formed early between the 2 factions.

JT is such a Southern gentleman. He's not willing to yell at the others to listen to him, and he's willing to take full responsibility for their loss. That's "old school southern" to this North Carolina girl - lol!

Katri (Valancy) | 68 comments OMG OMG I baked bread! I successfully baked bread and it looks, smells and tastes like bread and didn't go flat in the oven or anything! Yaaaaayyy! *runs around excitedly*

Ahem, excuse me. I'm running around telling this everywhere because I'm so happy I succeeded at doing it. In the past years I tried and it always went flat in the oven after looking so nice first. Maybe I used the wrong kind of yeast. If I start being able to do it regularly, I can save up so much by not needing to buy bread from the shop, not to mention home-made bread tastes so much better!

Bread is something I've never attempted to bake but it sounds so appealing. What kind does everyone like to make at home?

message 733: by [deleted user] (new)

Lee...help me! I need to start that book club book, Cutting for Stone, but I just finished Little Bee and I am emotionally drained. In your opinion, should I read a transitional book or just start Cutting for Stone?

message 734: by [deleted user] (new)

Quick bread and corn bread I can do. When I get inspired, real kneaded yeast bread! (I wish I could make European style bread).

message 735: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I have a breadmaker but I haven't used it in years. I used to buy multigrain mixes. Just delicious, and easy with the machine. I should try again...

It's pretty heavy duty. An emotional roller coaster so you might need something quick and light in between. Do you have time?

message 737: by Paula (new)

Paula | 184 comments Wow Katri - homemade made? And it worked? And you didn't use a breadmaker?!?! I am so culinarily challenged that even those who use a breadmaker impress me, but to do it from scratch... that's amazing! I want some! :)

And now,... am thinking about the breadmaker idea. Fresh-made bread at home sounds just heavenly!

message 738: by Paula (new)

Paula | 184 comments This might be inappropriate to post, but does anyone else's dog get super excited when they get back from a ... walk ... that is ... successful? The fiance has been taking him out late at night when I come upstairs and I know he (the dog) had a good ... outing... when he (again, the dog) comes back inside and does sprints around the house. He literally dashes up and down the stairs and around the rooms. He does it without fail. He's been doing it since we got him over two years ago. I thought he would have calmed down by now, yet I still find it entertaining.

message 739: by Paula (new)

Paula | 184 comments Ok - one more random thought... a colleague asked if I was nervous about going to Paris (now for 5 weeks instead of 3) and I said there was just one thing bothering me. When I went to Ireland I stressed about which books to pack, and a GR friend (or three) had to coax me away from the bookshelf before I totally overpacked.

Now I have two months to plan, so I'm trying to finish all the books I've started already but am already fretting over which books to pack. I like lighter books for the plane, and something with more meat to read at night when I'm locked in my hotel room or the lounge area for hours at a time.

Suggestions most welcome.

message 740: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
Paula, I'm obviously not a dog owner because I have to ask this question but do you mean when he successfully goes number 2? Is that your definition of success? LOL! And I don't think it's inappropriate at all, it's funny.

message 741: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
The what to pack on a 5 week trip to Paris is a question worth serious consideration. I'd have to take a look at your to-read list before I made a suggestion. It it were me, I would probably pack at least 10 good sized paperbacks.

Lee wrote:It's pretty heavy duty. An emotional roller coaster so you might need something quick and light in between. Do you have time?

Hahaha, that's actually cute. Dixie just wants her treat at those times, so she must be boring.

message 744: by Gabriele (new)

Gabriele Wills (muskoka) | 178 comments Paula, if you run out of books in Paris there is bookstore you really must go to - Shakespeare and Company on the Left Bank near Notre Dame Cathedral. I regret that we didn't have time when we were there, but have heard so much about it. Here's more info - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakespe...

message 745: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 20, 2010 07:04AM) (new)

Paula,

If your dog does his "victory" lap only after "success," then maybe he needs more fiber! If he does this after every walk, then I think he is just happy to be home, to see that all of his stuff is still there! Maybe he thinks you will have moved or thrown away his favorite things if he isn't there to watch you!

message 746: by [deleted user] (new)

Airplane reading: Do you have any guilty pleasure books? I like to read an easy mystery on the plane, or some fluff. I don't generally read "serious" books, so I can't suggest any. You might also consider some French-themed books, maybe that Julia Child book?

Christine, regarding Cutting for Stone, I meant to say it's not a difficult read in terms of slogging through. It's very readable and engrossing. I just found myself very involved with the characters so it's not a lightweight in that sense.

message 748: by [deleted user] (new)

It looks very good, and I knew what you meant. I was just feeling slightly beat up by Little Bee, and I wanted something without excessive emotional rollercoasting. I'm going to read it next though so that I have enough time before my meeting.
