Morning ladies,
I had a really bad night of insomnia, and I am dragging today. Hubby is taking the kids to the movies in a while and I'm going to just read and chillax. I need to finish my current book. I really like it, but I need something else. Hey! I need a comfort book! I just realized this...I must be sleepier than I thought.

I know goodbye in like a zillion languages, but that's just from riding It's A Small World at Disney too many times.

Thanks, Christine! Now that will be running through my head today! lol

That song is a killer!

message 606: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey, you guys made me crave popcorn when I had none in the house...this is payback, baby.

message 607: by Lisa (last edited Feb 13, 2010 01:24PM) (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) It's a world of laughter, a world of tears, it's a world of hopes and a world of fears...unfair payback!!! That song might run through my head for ages... ♫♪♩♬ As Lee said, that song is a killer. ;-) ETA: Oh gosh; I think I still know all the words.

I guess it's better than the Lady GaGa tune my daughter keeps singing.....xp

message 610: by [deleted user] (new)

I almost said that!!! Emma has been singing Bad Romance all day.

message 611: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes! That and Poker Face -- gak!

message 612: by [deleted user] (new)

We watch American Idol, so Bad Romance has been drumming through her head since Wednesday. Help. Me.

message 613: by [deleted user] (new)

hohoho! Payback for It's a Small World!!

Happy Valentine's Day Ladies!!

I'm still undecided -- it's just that my daughter sings it while declaring how annoyed she is about it being stuck in her head! Like, stop singing it already! lol

I totally forgot about Valentines day.

Totally Chocolate Dinner Day!!

Yes, I do what your daughter does...sing something and complain about that earwig thing (is that what it's called?). My greatest offense is when I get Kool and the Gang's "Get Down on It" in my head. That will stick for weeks. (Hey, stop laughing at me!)

message 620: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeannette wrote: "Happy Valentine's Day Ladies!!"

You too, and to everyone. My husband and I never really do anything for it, but I like to get goodies for my kiddos.

message 621: by [deleted user] (new)

My husband bought me one chocolate cupcake with 2 inches of frosting, and a bottle of port!

message 622: by [deleted user] (new)

2 inches of frosting - that sounds good! I bought my husband dark chocolate covered pomegranates and I've been eating them all myself.

message 623: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, that's a good husband! :)

message 624: by Paula (new)

Paula | 184 comments Yay, Happy Valentine's Day all! I'm a total sucker for this day - and I got a beautiful bouquet of flowers delivered this morning! It really is those kinds of things that make me happy :) oh, and the peace and quiet to finish my book over coffee this morning!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments Flowers are lovely for Valentine's, aren't they?

I got some as well, and just love them.

Yay! I have to say - whenever someone is wondering what to send/give as a gift, just default to flowers. Unless the recipient has serious allergies, you can't go wrong!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments I got some for Christmas this last year - could have knocked me over with a feather.

Awww, I love hearing those things. That's so cool :)

Good morning! I'm definitely going to need a comfort book once I finish my current one so I'm going to search the threads here a bit. Have a great start, everyone!

Morning Christine,

I hope you find something good!
The Ontario Government has invented a holiday named Family Day and it's today! Yay!

message 631: by [deleted user] (new)

We have Presidents' Day today -- it just means the library is closed and no mail delivery. Yay?

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Jeannette wrote: "We have Presidents' Day today -- it just means the library is closed and no mail delivery. Yay?"

I hate it!!!! I have 8 books (mostly children's picture books but even so) waiting for me at the library and I actually would have had time to pick them up today. Will have to try to make a library run tomorrow.

message 633: by Lisa (last edited Feb 15, 2010 07:28AM) (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Christine, I hope you find the perfect comfort read book too, and that our group's shelves help you decide.

ETA: Christine, What kind of book are you looking for? Maybe we can come up with even more ideas!

Everything here is closed too! The library and even many stores.

They NEVER close the stores here, well, maybe some stores on Christmas and Thanksgiving.

I want something light and funny soon. The book that I am reading now is The Murderer's Daughters, and it's really good but sad, depressing, and upsetting.

Christine, do you have many unread books at home to choose from? Or are you going to borrow or buy something?

We seem to have quite a few holidays where the stores are closed. I guess we are still somewhat traditional.

Hi Christine, I see that you like books set in India. Have you read East of the Sun by Julia Gregson?

Lee wrote: "Christine, do you have many unread books at home to choose from? Or are you going to borrow or buy something? "

I'm doing an Own it-Read it challenge so I can only get something new after I have finished a group of 5 that I own. I have a lot to choose from, but still trying to decide.

message 641: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 15, 2010 10:59AM) (new)

Mary, I'll look that up to add to my list. Thanks!

ETA: I put it on my paperbackswap WL, and it the wait list looks short. :)

Oh, that is so funny, Jeannette. Did you ever hear this joke? Two English speakers are trying to get a hotel room in Germany for one night. They are trying to say, "ein Zimmer für zwei, eine Nacht" (a room for two, one night), but they have trouble pronouncing "Nacht" and say instead, "ein Zimmer für zwei, eine nackt" (a room for two, one (of whom is) naked). It's really funny when told.

I realised that I was having some problems when I started saying things like "den floor sweepen" oder "den garbage rausstellen" But, you know, while I feel embarrassed at this, in Germany it's actually considered "cool" to anglicise.

I find that I get stuck while speaking English sometimes. I start a sentence and then realize that the only word that fits is a German word. This happens especially for those nice German words that convey a big idea in one word. (Of course, I am drawing a blank right now, but it happens fairly regularly).

There are lots of new verbs made from English -- we do this all the time at my house, especially when, like you, I forget a word in German! lol

Completely embarrassingly not a book topic, but how could Jake the Bachelor pick those two as his finals? Arg! (I know, I will put a paperbag over my head for even watching it)

Hahahahahaha, I just watched that too! I know! I don't understand his choices at all either. He is screwed up!

message 648: by [deleted user] (new)

I've been watching the Olympics. How embarrassing -- the Canadian crews couldn't get the ice made properly on the speed skating track. Not even with 3 zambonies!! (Isn't that a fun word?)

I'm waiting for the second race of the speed skating! I'm very excited. Also the pairs figure skating final is tonight!

That sounds like a great idea, and something I should really really do, too! I have a room full of books I own but haven't read and still can't help accumulate more. The geek in me figured out once how long it would take me to read them all. Very intimidating, yet I still buy more.
