No worries, I make typos all the time and often don't even notice. Eeeek!

I bet I will. The description looks so good! I do bet that several of our book club won't show up this month. I expect a few "I woke up with a terrible cold" or "my car broke down" calls. We have a few that are afraid of anything that isn't light.

I'm not even hosting, but everyone always calls me. I guess I'm the mama.

Paula | 184 comments Yes - success equals poo :) I was trying to be discreet. He could go every day and still do the victory lap; never gets old.

G- Boof mentioned S&co. A few months ago too so I'll definitely have to check it out now - thanks for the link!

I'm hoping Carriger's new novel is available before I leave as that would be the perfect book for the flight.

message 754: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I just added Cutting for Stone. It looks as though it would be a terrific book club selection.

message 755: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning comfy ladies! It was a slow weekend here, but I finished A Reliable Wife (not too impressed, and doesn't fit the "comfort" category) and started Cutting for Stone.
Our big excitement was a coyote in the yard. It's been all over the news lately that they are out in full force and to watch your small dogs (someone just lost a pet last week). So taking Dixie out makes me nervous as heck. I've had my Rambo mojo turned on all weekend.
Have a great start everyone!

message 756: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks It might even be a coyote/dog hybrid. They are often more dangerous because they have less fear of humans and are often more likely to approach cities and towns and take residence there (they are also often larger than average). Some people actually feed coyotes or coydogs (that's what the hybrids are sometimes called), which, of course, is not a good idea at all.

message 757: by [deleted user] (new)

It has been a harsh winter, with all of this snow, so I am not surprised that these animals are moving in. I have not seen any coyotes near where I live, just foxes. I would hope that they wouldn't approach you while you are guarding Dixie. I know they are becoming urbanized and used to being around people. Be careful.

Coyotes have been an issue forever where I live because we're out by the wildlife preservation areas. We had a few that slept on our porch two winters back, but I only had indoor cats so it didn't bother me too much when I saw the prints. I do worry a lot about Dixie. especially because these coyotes wander around in the middle of the day now too.

That's interesting. They do seem to lack the fear that people expect. There seems to be a local news story about these every day. One neighborhood has them sleeping on their kid's playsets...yikes.

message 760: by Paula (new)

Paula | 184 comments Last spring I was driving home from work, on a dark, fog-ridden street in northern Chicago, and two wolf/coyote things ran across the road in front of me. I slammed on my breaks and ended up just lightly tapping one of them, but there was no way I was going to get out and investigate after it seemed that they ran away. I got home, parked my car in the driveway, and when my dog came out, he immediately went to the front of the car and sniffed it with his tail securely tucked between his legs.

I can't imagine if they started hanging out in our neighborhood!

Darkpool | 222 comments Very grateful that we don't have those sorts of animals in NZ.

Good afternoon everyone!

I am now almost fully recovered from my daughter's birthday weekend. We hosted two parties and I am really glad I only have to do that once a year.
I'm happy to be able to get back to my regular routine and some reading. I've started Sacajawea and am enjoying the historical detail of daily tribal life.

What's everyone up to? What are you all reading? Do you think we should have a currently reading thread even if it's not a comfort read?

message 763: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Lee wrote: "Do you think we should have a currently reading thread even if it's not a comfort read? "

I think it's a good idea, yes.

Lee, I can't feel too sorry for you: All that cake! Yum! I know it's a lot of work though!

message 764: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi all! I'm a little under the weather today, but I don't really have the choice to be....too many things have to be done anyway.

Lee, I would feel sorry for you if you sent me some cake.

I haven't been reading nearly enough comfort books lately so an additional thread would interest me too.

message 765: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
Ha, although I do have a major sweet tooth and the chocolate cake and cupcakes I made were delicious, my body was a little out of whack after a few days of eating that stuff. I'm happy get back to my regular diet.

Okay, I'll set up a currently reading thread for people to share about what their current reads are even if they are not comfort reads. We just like to hear about all kinds of great books don't we? And we like to chat!

If only I could mail you cupcakes I would. I bet Customs would eat them!

Paula | 184 comments Tonight it took me an hour and a half to drive home due to the total whiteout snow storm that hit northern Illinois/southern Wisconsin. Is it spring yet?? I so want to trade in the sound of snowblowers for the sound of birds chirping!

message 772: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow -- glad you are okay! That's one that missed us! We got the cold front instead.

message 773: by Paula (new)

Paula | 184 comments Ohhh, that's a tough one - snowstorm or frigid temps. I may just take the snowstorm! :)

message 774: by [deleted user] (new)

message 775: by Katri (new)

Katri (Valancy) | 68 comments I'm going to give bread-baking another try today, let's see if I can make it even better! :)

It's been so cold here lately... But looks like it's finally letting up! There's a sunny, white, snow-sparkling world out there waiting for me in what should be a tolerable winter temperature! I think it's time to forget about my job search for a while and go out for a walk!

message 776: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 26, 2010 05:45AM) (new)

Good morning, how is everyone today? I'm sure that Lee is over there eating a cupcake for breakfast ...

Well, my son woke up with the stomach thing (yes, that stomach thing, I won't gross you out with details) at about 4:00 this morning. I plan a day of manic disinfecting activity in combination with trying to get my daughter (who has OCD and is a diagnosed germaphobe, no joke) to not have a stroke over her brother's stomach thing...oh, and do her school.

You know what would have cheered me up? You got it...cupcakes.

message 777: by Mary (new)

Mary | 245 comments Oh Christine, that's no fun! Hope the kids are better soon.

We're snowed in (again). This is a strange one, the sun comes out for about 5 minutes, then it gets pitch dark and snows very heavily for about ten minutes, gradually letting up and then out comes the sun and the cycle repeats.

Ah Christine, How sorry I am to hear about your son.
I am repenting over my naughty, late night cupcake episode and have not eaten any today. However, my daughter DID have one for breakfast so it's my turn to suffer watching her.

message 779: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) Hi everyone - Newbie Diane here. I got exciting news from Dell this morning that our new computer will be delivered on Monday. Then I won't have to slack off at work doing Goodreads-- LOL.

Christine, I hope your little boy is better !

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

message 780: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay Diane! It would drive me crazy to not have a computer at home.

Benjamin is SO sick, sheesh! Way worse than I thought. At the moment I am just praying that it's a horrible 24-hour thing and will end soon.

message 781: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, Christine, I hope it's a short-lived thing! I remember when my daughter was quite young (3 maybe) and got sick like that -- she vowed that she would "never" do that again! Wish that could have come true for her!

Lee has repented of her cupcake "crowing." I hope we haven't driven her to eating them in secret! :)

Good news, Diane, now you can spend even more time with us!

Stay safe and warm everyone!

Paula | 184 comments I've been really stressed about work stuff over the last few weeks, so this morning fiance and I went to the biggest B&N within a 1.5 hour drive. Spent way too much but felt much better. Totally randomly walked into an author chat for Free Fall which made me buy the first 3 books in the series (they were all signed, I couldn't resist). I think they are a YA series...

Later that night proceeded to get into fight with fiance so am now taking solace in GR and my new purchases. Not quite the relaxing Sat. night I'd hoped for.

Definitely don't envy you though, Christine, as your days recently seem worse, just venting my own frustrations. I think all the problems would be solved for us if it were 75 and sunny :)

message 785: by [deleted user] (new)

We have all been cooped up way too long, haven't we?

Christine -- I hope that you have a germ-free day today!

Paula -- making up can be fun, too, but only when he says he's sorry first. :p (My husband and I have fought about apologizing first more than once! We can both be stubborn.)

Hope Sunday is a better day for both of you! :)

message 786: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning,
Sorry to hear about your argument, Paula. Men can be such...men. Hopefully all is better by now. Your bookstore trip sounds awesome!

Benjamin didn't eat all day Saturday, but didn't do "that stomach thing" either. Today he had a little breakfast so we're on the upswing unless somebody else in the family starts up. I'm crossing my fingers and toes.

Yesterday I disinfected, finished my book, disinfected, watched the earthquake coverage, disinfected, watched the Olympics, and disinfected. Today I plan to do some disinfecting (ya know, for a change of pace).

message 787: by [deleted user] (new)

Lee, I finished Cutting For Stone! Very very good book, but wow it pushed my "too graphic, abort mission" button several times. It's my book club discussion book for March. That should be interesting.

message 788: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
Wow, really? I must be tougher than I thought! I'm glad you stuck it out. There certainly is lots to discuss isn't there? It's a great book for a club read.

message 789: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, not to question your toughness, but I'm a total baby. I am sure I told you that I can't even watch medical dramas on TV (or the commercials, those freak me out too!).
I think the book club meeting will be a good one. There are so many amazing characters to discuss.

Heehee, Christine, I'm not the least bit tough. I used to watch ER but then gave it up after three people got stabbed with a scalpel in one of the finales. That was too much for me.

message 791: by [deleted user] (new)

I dated a guy who worked as a security guard in an ER in Detroit. I saw a stab wound victim come in -- lots of blood. Not the kind of thing I watch for enjoyment.

I don't watch TV, just see the commercials sometimes. It seems the shows on network have gotten to be rather gruesome -- or is it just me?

They have to compete with the shows on cable these days, which can get away with a lot more. But they do try.

Maybe I should start a thread called "Christine's kids are sick"....sheesh! Benjamin woke up with another fever. I can't wait for this season to end!

I was really planning to hop on a plane to Dallas to go slap Jake the Bachelor this morning, but now I have to stay home and make chicken soup and disinfect.

Christine, I don't know if it's any comfort but a month ago, my daughter went through a similar cycle with a similar sickness that lasted about 5 or 6 days, got better for two or three days and then came back for a few more days. The Doctor said it was just a nasty intestinal virus going around and it would run it's course. We got pretty sick of that bland diet around here. I hope your son pulls through soon. I know how worrisome it is to have your child sick.

Yuck, Lysol. :(

I got a new dishwasher yesterday -- one that works! -- so I'm a happy camper. And the sun is shining and all this grey frozen junk is melting! Hope the nasty germs have fled your house and both your kids are happier today. :)
