You can follow Gabriele on goodreeads, too, and goodreads will let you know when there are new posts. Really convenient, especially if, like me, you don't log on to blogspot that often. Just type her name in the authors search and I think you just click on the Follow button from her page.

It's nice, since the GR author page shows her blog posts and sends update emails. Great way to see the posts.

Yes, they were spoiled (and much loved)! At the end, Cally would only drink from a "people" glass. But then, she had never considered herself a cat!

Gabriele,

My kitty sneaks on to my night table every night and drinks from my water glass! I have to remember to constantly change it or I'm sharing kitty spit and god knows what else with him.

Manybooks One of my mother's cats is also fanatical about drinking out of a glass (maybe he thinks he's a human).

I'm convinced they all think that, Gundula!

Manybooks Probably. This one will also wake you up at night (if you didn't close the door to the bedroom) and sit on your head, while trying to drink from the bedside glass.

That will be the day! haha But, he begs like the dog and will eat almost anything -- popcorn, green peas or corn, chips. Things that the black one won't eat. We call him my husband's yogurt buddy!

I had a cat that would come in early in the am (6 maybe) and pull the hairs out at the crown of my head to wake me. ouch!

Yikes! We ended up locking the cats out of the bedroom. But when they still played outside (and wouldn't come in at night), Gingy would jump from the tree outside our second floor bedroom onto the narrow windowsill and meow plaintively at 3 or 4 AM. I was always so terrified that he would fall off that I would pull off the screen and let him in. Was there ever any doubt who was in control?

I can't find an English speaking group here... I meet with the Italian bookcrossers every month and that's a lot of fun, but we don't talk about books much. I'd love to be able to talk face-to-face about what I'm reading. I'm ever hopeful, however.

No, not on blogspot, which explains a lot, I guess :)

Love the cat stories but am an officially converted "dog person" now. My lab is my best friend and when I'm home alone (like this weekend) I couldn't feel safer.

My fiance and my boyfriend chose this weekend of all weekends to drive from Chicago to NY to pick up a desk from fiance's childhood that he had left with a friend when fiance moved from NY back to Chicago. 2' of snow expected in the area. Nervous? Me? Nah.... The fact that I keep checking weather.com every two minutes means nothing :)

message 471: by Gabriele (new)

Gabriele Wills (muskoka) | 178 comments Yeah, we heard you were getting lots of snow down there, and it's missing us completely! Hope all goes well, and that you can enjoy your reading time, Paula.

I have cats, I always have, but this is my first dog. I have to say that I never knew I was such a dog person until I got her. How did I live without this dog? :)
Is he going to NY state or city? I am originally from Buffalo. I hope that the weather isn't a problem for him.
I'm sick and staying in today if possible. My hubby and I were supposed to go out for our anniversary, but I caught what my son had. Bright side? I may get some cozy reading time.

Hey Christine, I hope you feel better soon. I have a feeling that if I ever got a dog, I would fall in love too.

I am very happy this morning because I just sent my husband to IKEA to buy me a new BOOKSHELF for our bedroom!!!! He just got back and is assembling it now.

message 474: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Lee, I'm jealous! We need another bookshelf...perhaps even more than one. Hubby & I are both book lovers, and he is a book hoarder! We have three full bookcases, and several boxes of books in the garage. *sigh*

message 475: by Gabriele (new)

Gabriele Wills (muskoka) | 178 comments Gotta love IKEA - that's where all our bookcases come from, as well as lots of other furniture. Do you do IKEA speak at your house? - Billy, Bertby, Pax, Poang...

Christine, what a rotten way to feel on your anniversary. Hope can you enjoy your reading time.

I'm so excited, I'm planning how to reorganize my books. We live only 5 minutes from the store and it's easy to whip over there and pick up odds and ends.

Gabriele, I told my hubby to get a tall, white Billy bookcase and he gave me a blank look so I'm educating him LOL!

You know what I think is neat that I've seen elsewhere here on Goodreads? People posting photos of their bookshelves and reading areas.

Darkpool | 222 comments Not fair! I need my passport to get to the nearest IKEA store (it's in Sydney). Retail developers are allegedly refusing to let IKEA into their new shopping developments here in Auckland because they don't want to have to deal with the kind of traffic an IKEA would generate. Grrr!

I can understand that to a point. Even though IKEA has great stuff, I hate shopping there due to the crowds; I get seriously claustrophobic.

Thank you, Gabriele! And as for IKEA, we have several out here, but my hubby has "an issiue" with them and refuses to shop there anymore. :(

He got burned one time when he bought something that was missing a part (was promised that it was coming in soon) and bought the cabinet thing in good faith. The part never came in, and they wouldn't accept the return of the rest of it. Anyway, he has a fit when I mention wanting to go there.

Ah, we've discovered the trick is to go an hour or two before closing on a week night. No crowds!

message 484: by [deleted user] (new)

Get better quick Christine & Happy Anniversary! I love IKEA, but it's a 3-1/2 drive from my house to the nearest store! When we lived in Seattle, it was like a date night to go to IKEA. They have this great kids' area and we would leave my daughter there and wander the aisles for an hour. Free babysitting if we didn't buy anything!

message 485: by Darkpool (new)

Darkpool | 222 comments Lee wrote: "You would think the retailers would like the traffic IKEA would generate. "
Ah, here we go. It's not the developers, but the agency that gives the consents. This, from a news story 2 years ago:
The Environment Court has banned the Swedish-headquartered furniture business from being a tenant in Redwood's new Mt Wellington venture because its stores are so popular it is feared traffic chaos will ensue.
"Ikea stores are known to have high traffic-generating characteristics," the Environment Court ruled in allowing Redwood's new shopping centre. "Accordingly, they have been specifically excluded from allowable retail activities in this consent."

Don't know much about New Zealand, Darkpool, except for the beautiful scenes from LotR. Is there a lot of congestion in the cities? Or are the courts trying to maintain environmental quality?

message 487: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks If the New Zealand courts are actually trying to maintain environmental quality, then I have nothing but respect and admiration for them. We need more of the same in North America.

Wow, an environment court! Cool!

message 489: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks I wish the Ontario Ministry of the Environment would take heed (they are supposed to protect the environment, but more often than not protect big business). I know there needs to be a balance, but I'd like to see the balance shifted more towards environmental protection, noise abatement and pollution control.

Valerie, I meant to say earlier that I'm jealous you have a book loving husband! Mine is not a reader.

message 491: by [deleted user] (new)

A party would be nice but um, I'm afraid the football would be a little drowned out by book talk.
