Lover Avenged was great, but it did feel a little disconnected with fewer strands of the story coming together in the end. And I was SO SAD for John Matthew!! So I’m mad about that – Lover Mine better be satisfying on that front!

Ok, I've been really bad--haven't read another book from this challenge. :o) I've been reading "off my challenges" since I just got a couple of books from PBS that had been on my wish list FOREVER. So I put everything aside in the glee at finally getting my grubby little paws on them. :oP

Plus I'm still working on a quilt for my bed. It SNOWED yesterday, so I really need to just stop reading altogether for a week or so and get this quilt top FINISHED. Then its a choice of what to do about the quilting. Do it myself, which means doing it in sections since I don't have a long arm--or sending it out and having it take a couple of months, but at least if I do that I can also get the long arm quilter to put the binding on (which is always my personal least favourite part of making a quilt.)

Martina's TBR Clean-Up Challenge - 2/9 COMPLETED

Jinx High is the third and last book in the Diana Tregarde Investigations. In keeping with my desire to read the very oldest books on my shelf, this book has been there since late 2007, but is copyrighted 1991 which makes it a VERY early urban fantasy/mystery novel.

I enjoyed Jinx High, but found that it is somewhat dated in the behavior of the teenagers in the book - driving cars that no longer exist, using payphones (with a single quarter, no less!), and using old slang. This didn't bother me even though I was still in grade school at the time it was written. For the most part, the story holds up. There's something fishy going on at Jenks High - so many kids in trouble and dying that the local police nicknamed it Jinx High - and Diana Tregarde is out to figure it out. Especially since the kid of a friend is caught in the crossfire!

Oh Rydstrom!
This seventh book in the Immortal After Dark series was another engaging read. This time we get to see Rydtstrom (*sigh*) finding love. The heroine however is a selfish, evil bitch. But like Rydtsrom says in the epigraph: 'Sabine might be an evil bitch, but she's my evil bitch and I'll have no other'. Another fun and sexy read.

Just finished Queen of Song and Souls. It is the fourth book of a series I highly recommend . I consider it more fantasy romance than paranormal romance. It has a great plot and the relationship between Ellysetta and Rain is fabulous. There was originally only supposed to be four books in the series, but the author has turned it into a quintet.

Martina--wow I hadn't thought about the Diana Tregarthe books in AGES. (Well, since I had to re-shelf everything a couple of months ago when hubby decided to move bookcases around and dumped books everywhere.) And I think you're right--the problem with setting books in high schools is--things change ssooo fast.

I thought that Jinx High was the weakest of the 3 Diana books. Especially since she really didn't "do" anything to solve the problem. The end of the book just had the um, whatever you want to call her--witch, evil blood-suck--er aanyway--just coming back again. SPOILER ALERT, SPOILER ALERT for anyone who wants to read the book, even if it is a bit dated.

The villianess has perfected a way to "move" her soul into the body of her daughter, kicking the daughter out and having the daughter die. But it HAS to be a "daughter of her body" so just any handy girl won't do. The reason I'm not exactly sure what to call her is that Diana's world was one of those where you are born able to work magic or not. And if you can't work it, you can't see magical creatures. And this woman has, somehow, managed to learn to work magic without being able to see the magical creatures she's summoning/using.

Ann, the REALLY funny thing is that I just starting watching (from Hulu) Season 1 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the third episode is almost EXACTLY the same plot as Jinx High.

Great setup! And one of the things that going to be really nice about the next book is that Xhex and JM already have a history with each other. It wont be once of those where they meet one day and get mated the next! I love that, and I love already having seen bits and pieces of the history with them. CAN'T WAIT! I'm just glad that I didn't have to wait a year!

Lol I would never have done it if I didn't have enough books to last me until after chrsitmas with a few pre ordered in between. But I made this promise after I ordered the BDB books in a box set(the first 6)and wasn't sure if I'd like them or not. Even though Cresent Moon ventured away from the main characters of the mightcreature novels the story pulled me in. It did take a bit to get into the book but after 70 or so pages I couldnt put it down.
