Jeffrey Miller (jeffreyaaronmiller) | 9 comments Hey there, folks. I'm in the middle of publishing a YA urban fantasy series. Books one, two and three are available, with the concluding volume coming in September.

Mary of the Aether by Jeffrey Aaron Miller
Mary of Shadows by Jeffrey Aaron Miller
Mary Of Starlight by Jeffrey Aaron Miller

A Young Adult series set in small-town Arkansas. Mary Lanham learns the magical secrets of her past and confronts an ancient evil. The fate of the whole world hangs in the balance.

Reviewers have said some nice things about the series, including but not limited to:

"Absolutely brilliant!" - Flamingnet Teen Book Reviews

and

"An instant, attention grabbing hit! With picturesque scenes and impeccably drawn characters, Miller weaves a suspenseful fantasy of good versus evil." -Arkansas Book Reviewer

Here is everything you could ever want to know about the series and probably more.

Anyway it's good to be here, and now that I've introduced myself, I plan to check out other people's links.

Neil Ostroff (httpgoodreadscomneil_ostroff) | 255 comments Getting on the bestseller list

I read an article recently defining what it meant to be an Amazon bestselling author these days. Keep in mind this is an Amazon bestseller not a New York Times bestseller. The general rule is if your book sells between 150-500 copies in a twenty-four hour period its ranking can get low enough that it can be considered a bestseller.

That said, I am an Amazon bestselling author three times this year. Once in August, I stayed on the list for three whole days. But what does it all really mean? As those authors who have hit the list know, unless the momentum continues for weeks you’re probably not going to get rich because of it or even make a decent living. But is that really the point if you are a life-long, obsessed writer? Getting wealthy would be a great perk to the tens of thousands of hours spent isolated in a room with only a keyboard and your own imagination as entertainment, but if you’re a true artist what matters is reaching the audience.

Knowing that thousands of people have read and continue to read my books is worth its weight in gold. Receiving congrats and admiration from old friends and new ones makes up for the financial loss of earning thirty-five cents a book royalty instead of what used to be anywhere from a few bucks to a lot of bucks the old traditional way.

As the market continues to flood with new talented and wannabe writers, it will get harder and harder for the cream to rise to the top as they say. I’m already seeing that with paid and free promotions. Three years ago, when I published my first ebook, a spot on KND or Kindle Boards almost guaranteed that you’d sell books. New websites for readers and writers were popping up almost daily and catching a spot on these sites guaranteed exposure. Now, there are so many sites readers get lost and overwhelmed at the amount of material thrust in front of them, and with so many choices, it’s just a plain numbers and luck game if they buy your book.

Case-in-point, in the past two months I was offered to post my book descriptions and links on no less than six new websites for readers for free as long as I promoted these sites to my many followers and groups, which I happily did. I’m always game for more exposure no matter what the result. These sites let me know when I’d be featured and I heavily promoted those days. Again, I am grateful for the opportunities and appreciate the exposure, but here’s the thing, I couldn’t see any improvement in sales from any of the sites on those promotion days.

It takes a lot of time to plug in marketing information, time that takes away from writing that next book. It’s true that word-of-mouth is by far the biggest seller of books, but it seems that with the internet and worldwide exposure, that word-of-mouth can get lost in the chatter of so many new books. I may never hit the Amazon bestseller list again (hopefully I will) but it was certainly a boost to my writer’s ego to know that for a brief time I was ranked right up there beside such great writers as Ann Rice, Stephen King, and Suzanne Collins. It made all the years spent weaving my tales worth it.

Lea Carter (leacarterwrites) | 32 comments Hi, I'm Lea Carter. I'm an Indie or Self-published author. While I write "light" fantasy (as opposed to dark), these stories will probably be most enjoyed by persons in the 6th grade or older.
The first three books of my series, Silver Sagas, follow the story of a young fairy princess (not quite a hundred years old) who finds herself rapidly propelled from being "the youngest" member of the royal family to active involvement in the governing of her tribe.

Sky Shatter
Sky Shatter (Breeze Corinth, #1) by Michael John Olson

I've always been a fan of comics, particularly the X-Men,and sci-fi writers like Orson Scott Card and David Brin. Though my series is considered to be sci-fi, it does have a lot of YA and Fantasy elements woven into the story.

Glad to be a member of this group. Looking forward to meeting new people and having some great discussions!

Sarah Olson (sarahfayolson) | 6 comments Hi everyone!

My debut novel Sapphire was just released! It's a YA fantasy with adventure and romance. It has a fairy tale feel with a twist of betrayal and a growing rebellion.

In the kingdom of Asteria, Layla has dreamt of nothing but royal balls and falling in love. On her sixteenth birthday, she receives the invitation to the annual Autumn Ball and it doesn't seem like life could get any better when the Prince falls for her. But the fairy tale is short-lived as Layla soon learns the truth about her murdered parents and is given a sapphire that changes her life.

It is currently available as an ebook and for pre-order in paperback here.

Check it out!

I did not write The Nano Experiment with young adults in mind. However, it seems a couple of reviewers think teens might like the book. Here is what one of them said:

"This book will appeal to young adults because it does start with great action involving a main character that has all kinds of problems as a teenager allowing the reader to associate with her life. The language used is appropriate with sex scenes being minimal and discreetly described.

The author twists Eileen's life from one direction to another leading her from her teenage years to death row in prison to a mysterious nano-drug trial to yet another harrowing adventure after another just to prove her innocence and get her family back.”

Justin March | 4 comments Hello,

System_Failure, a cyber punk young adult novel, is free on amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/System_Failure-...

System_Failure by Justin March

blurb: In the near future, wealthy "patricians" access the internet through a chip embedded within their flesh, while scavengers eke out a meager existence in the slums that surround their walled cities. All technology that is not approved by the company running this network, known as the "bionet," has been banned, so scavengers live off the grid.

A teen scavenger named Clark finds an illegal laptop and befriends a fellow scavenger named Starla who gives him access to a power supply. Together they learn how to hack into the bionet, but in doing so, Clark is intercepted by agents working for the CEO of the mega-corporation that runs the network. Impressed with Clark's brilliance, he offers to make Clark a patrician. The operation to insert a biochip will wipe out Clark’s memories of Starla.

Clark must choose between remaining a scavenger and becoming a patrician, between freedom and wealth, between Starla and absolute power. When the plan Clark hatches to have it both ways goes awry he finds himself in a fight for his life against the world’s largest corporation and its CEO.

description

http://www.amazon.com/Connor-Dormaine...

"I, Connor, thought I was the average sarcastic teenager, living a normal boring life like everyone else with a crazy, annoying family. Wrong. I recently discovered that I have certain abilities. Abilities that link me to others like me, and others, unlike me, who want to cause me harm.

I found out this world is not what I thought, as well as the strange creatures in it, and that frightens me. I had to grow up fast and find the strength to defend myself from those beings who don’t want me here or who will take my strengths by any means necessary.

Throughout this craziness, I met a wonderful guy named Tony, who has abilities too. With him and five others like us we discover who we are and how we came to be.

Then there is Ronin, a being who is young, smart, and cunning. He is set on taking his revenge out on me yet I have no idea why."

K.T. Blaine | 5 comments Hi!

I'm K.T. Blaine and I recently self-published a YA spy romance, Spy Summer, which I would love to give away to the first 5 people who contact me. Obviously I would love it if you could review it too, but no pressure. :)

The book: Ria is an American girl on a school trip to France who gets caught up in something way bigger than herself and needs to find a way out. Enter Evan, a British teen spy, who has a vested interest in what's going on and decides to help her.

The only problem? Ria doesn't like Brits. And Evan doesn't like to get too close to people. How will the two be able to work together and figure out what is going on?

Read my book to find out! :)

If interested, you can contact me via goodreads and leave me a message. I can send the book in mobi, epub, or pdf.

Thanks for considering it!

(If you're interested but somehow miss the 5 person limit, it's also available on Kindle) :)

message 489: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Bina (nataliebina) | 3 comments Hello all! I have published four books for Young Adults. They are all contemporary stories of teens struggling with everyday issues of adolescent life. In my writing, I try to have strong female narrators and focus on important issues that don't get a lot of time in the YA limelight.

Here they are:

World of Chances: The story of Emmaline Addams as she struggles with the transition between middle school and high school, and the idea that she is going to have to leave behind the small familiar world that she has always known.

The High Road: This novel follows the destructive path of bullying in middle school, particularly when a group of girls get together and decide to bully another. Audrey Bass's world is shattered when her friends turn against her and she is thrust into a world of verbal games. She must discover that sometimes the best friendships are with people who have been there all along, and are just waiting to be found.

Vermilion Departure: This is my personal favorite of all of my novels. It is a story of how a girl and a boy with less-than-perfect family lives can find solace in each other, and learn to treasure their friendship like they are family.

Never Trust a Happy Song: My most recent publication, this novel follows Cassidy Diamond as she attends a rigorous summer program at Stanford University and struggles to keep up with the stress and workload of trying to be the perfect student. However, he concentration is sidetracked by the daughter of her host family, who is bubbly, vivacious, and completely not worried about school. The two must learn from each other in order to find a balance between a life of studying and a life of living.

Please check them out and give them a read. If you feel inspired to afterwards, I would also love a rating or review. Thank you!

Mercedes Torres | 3 comments Hello everyone,
Please check out my book The Fear of Falling which came out yesterday.

The Fear of Falling
The Fear of Falling (Toxic Love #1) by Mercedes G. Torres

BACK COVER
A Love story is not always about falling in love, or falling out of love sometimes it's about learning how to love. Sometimes learning to love is half the battle. Loving too much or loving too little can be toxic in either direction and all that loving yourself bullshit everyone is always talking about…well there is a fine line between altruism and narcissism when your sacrifices are made in vein, that’s a lesson we all learn the hard way.

Synopsis
Anna Tate is an anti-social seventeen year old who has always lived to please her cruel and abusive mother. When Anna’s mother sends her to live with her estranged grandfather leaving the only home she has ever known she is forced to confront who she is without the influence of her mother. Anna is befriended by the handsome and taken next door neighbor. She clings to him for emotional support and inevitably falls in love but soon becomes lost and desperate when he does not return her love.

Anna’s life becomes a journey of love, obsession, unrequited emotions and self-discovery as she is forced to choose between a boy that reminds her of home and the unrequited love she's always known and her true love, the one she’s carried in her heart for four years. If she takes the chance on true love she could lose the one thing that has reminded her that life is worth living, his heart.

Ellen Benefield | 9 comments The Star Of Jolanest by Ellen Dawn Benefield The Star Of Jolanest 99 cents on Kindle Amazon.com through July 27. A very fun, colorful and refreshing read! April 30, 2014 5.0 out of 5 stars
By Dave
Format:Kindle Edition
Immediately brings back the sensation of being a kid and watching a live action adventure on a Saturday afternoon. The humor was well placed and develops within the reader an affection for the characters. Lighthearted, imaginative and action packed. I'm sincerely looking forward to sending my daughter off to sleep with snippets of this fun tale whirring in her head. My one criticism..... this book will leave you aching for a sequel.

It's the story of Lainey Martin, a California girl who has just graduated high school. A job as a camp counselor helps her realize a love for working with kids with special needs. A new friend, Caleb has amazing confidence in her and pushes her to chase her dreams; or is he just pushing her away?

P.G. Shriver (pgshriver) | 13 comments Hello,

I have a young adult series, and book two was just released. The Gifted Ones: The Dream.

Blurb
Fire rages in their dream. Whirlwinds threaten their bond. Evil fuels their anger.

Nathan, orphaned by murderers, steals his grandmother's car to flee his home in Paradise leaving behind all that remains of his life, his family, his home-because of the dream.

Rebecca, the talented, autistic, speechless one, knows more than her estranged father believes which sets her on the run and into unfamiliar situations-because of the dream.

Cai, the angry young woman orphaned after a plane crash, seeks reasons, revenge, restitution from her nightmarish tormentor-because of the dream.

Thad-the frightened, quiet, suspicious one-fears his father, and the one in the dream who taunts him, beckons him, desires him.

The fairytale prophesied them. The dream binds them. Cheater and Jazz need them.

But they live in a world created by him, a world he's worked hard to build, and he will let nothing, no one, undo the foundation of his future. Years of planning his worldwide take over, researching predictions of the past, playing lives like a fine game of chess are at stake. He awaits the arrival of the twelve, and four of them are on their way, seeking union with those in the dark.

I'm sponsoring a scholarship challenge over the next school year for this series if anyone 13-18 is interested in participating or if anyone is interested in donating challenge books to schools. Register to participate from this page on August 1 https://www.geanpenny.com/young-schol..., and learn how to donate books before September 7 on this page https://www.geanpenny.com/donate-book.... Feel free to share any of the flyers, bookmarks, or other documents with interested parties or schools. It's my goal to give three students a full scholarship next year! Hope you enjoy my books!

Thanks,
P. G. Shriver

Len Robertson | 78 comments I hadn't considered Questing For Dragons and Copernican Journey Young Adult but sex and violence are such that 13 and up work. Copernican Journey probably works for 10 year olds since it's hard sci fi.

By the way, if anyone intends going to Chicago's Comicon on August 21, 22, 23, and 24, drop by the table I share with Matt Hansel in the artists and writers section.

Chloe Testa | 5 comments Hello all! I'm Chloe Testa and I'm the author of the dark fantasy young adult novel, Blood Roses.

Blood Roses by Chloe Testa
Blurb:
It started with a rose and the girl nobody else can see.

Her eyes follow Tom wherever he goes. Watching. Waiting. She surrounds him. She haunts him. So...why can't anybody else see her?

Reality turns against Tom as he clings to the shreds of his sanity, knowing she's real. She has to be. He isn't...crazy.
As the battle between the unseen girl and the voice of reason unravels before him, he must fight to ignore the taunting voices clawing at the back of his mind, whispering in agreement with those around him that he is rapidly falling into madness.

Who do you trust when your own mind rebels against you?

Amy Heugh (amyheugh) Hi Everyone

I'm Amy Heugh, the author of Pretty Girl, my debut novel.

From tomorrow (1st August 2014) PRETTY GIRL will be FREE on Amazon. 2 days only!

Pretty Girl by Amy Heugh

http://www.amazon.com/Pretty-Girl-Amy...

If there were one day that she could change it would be the day she was taken.

After her parents’ divorce, seventeen-year-old Izzy Scott and her mother move to the old town of St. Augustine to begin a new life, a life beyond the media attention and the memories of the traumatic experiences that left an everlasting affect on their family.

The former ballerina is trying to adjust to the outside world without suffering a panic attack and exposing who she is - all while getting through her senior year at a new school. That’s easy to say until she meets local boy Mason Winchester, a boy with a tragic past.

Mason has a reputation for violence, but a love for motorcycles. At the age of eleven he lost his mother to cancer and from then he has been running from something, but could never really get away.

Like any other angry teenager, he just wants to be left alone and to have nothing to do with anyone else because he believed that he had nothing to offer. That changes the moment he saw what was in the new girl eyes.

Tragedy wasn't new to either of their lives but among the secrets and the memories the one thing they both never excepted was to find hope.

Sarah McDonald | 1 comments Hey all! I'm a first time author and goodreads is still fairly new to me but I'm so glad forums like this exist for authors/readers to connect! My book is called The Forbidden and I would categorize it as fantasy/adventure (YA of course) and is available on both Amazon and Neverland Publishing! It's the first installment of a series about a parallel universe where magic exists and curses youth to serve as soldiers protecting a kingdom. The story follows a high school student who crosses over into this dimension after her friends are kidnapped and taken there. Any feedback or questions are welcome! There is an excerpt on the publisher's site or I am happy to give one!
