Synopsis:
He was an enemy.
She saved his life.
The rest is history.
Rooks have embraced science and technology, even inventing helpful, microscopic, robots called nanos to create nearly any machine they want to meet their needs.
The Terraquois are their opposite. They have embraced the spiritual and have a deep bond with nature. It is this bond that allows them to transform into the animal that resembles their own, inner selves.
These two races have fought each, often with brutal savagery, for centuries. But things change when the Rook prince, Rone Varlamagne, is shot out of the sky and left for dead in the desert by an unknown force. Keiara, the daughter of the Terraquois chieftan, is the one to find him but instead of killing him, she decides to save his life. It is one act. One conscious choice, but it changes everything for them and the entire face of Purga.
Together, they face foes from every direction...and they will stop at nothing to protect each other.
Thanks,
Rustin

A little bit about me: I’m the spawn of a typewriting chimp and a literary ninja, feeding on the souls of Unicorns to fuel my ideas. Some of that maybe a cover story…
For those that don’t know but my book SHADOW OF WRATH is available on Amazon (but honestly, no pressure to buy).
Here’s a synopsis:
A hungry and homeless boy is kidnapped and forced to fight in a modern-gladiator fighting pit for the enjoyment of Ryker, the Arena’s sadistic master. Given the name ‘Dog,’ the homeless boy must fight every week to survive, leaving behind a trail of bodies -- and ghosts -- as the death matches threaten to take his life and humanity. Only Allegra, a beautiful slave girl, can save him, but she’s lost everything already -- her family, her innocence, her dignity -- and her will to live hangs by only a thread. Can anyone make it out alive?
If you’re eyebrow is even slightly raised, you can read a free sample of at:
http://lwpatricks.com/shadow-of-wrath...
Feel free to add it onto your shelves and let me know what you think of it: the good (yay!), the bad (less of this I hope), and the ugly (I’ll cry). Also anyone and everyone can add me as their friend and chat with me about anything and everything: vampire mermaids, robot monkeys, erotic animals (50 Shades of Panda anyone?). Nothing is too taboo for me.

If you love the MATCHED series by Ally Condie, the DIVERGENT series by Veronica Roth, or the DELIRIUM series by Lauren Oliver, you need to meet Tan Michaels. Check out ASSIMILATE, my exciting new dystopian tale. Goodreads Giveaway going on now! This title is currently available in Kindle format on Amazon.com and will be released in paperback on Christmas Eve. Happy reading!

Book Description:
"I've come to like people, the ones I've gotten to know so far at Buena Vista High School. I even love some of them. This is probably what made the killing possible for me.
What I feel bad about now is not the killing I did, so much as the killing I didn't do. My family and friends and everyone in our society considers us heroes- me, Nick, and Andy. And I would wholeheartedly agree with the Nick and Andy part. But not me. I have failed miserably, and only I know it.
This weighs on me, of course, and I think it's only a matter of time before I'll have to come clean- expose myself for the coward I really am, and for the danger I've placed us all in. Because choosing not to act is a choice all its own, and it's the one I made at the time. I accept that- I do. I own it. So now if the world ends for humankind, any or all, it will be me who is to blame."
-Excerpt from ASSIMILATE, by Emily Jack Hayden 2012.

Sixteen-year-old Tan Michaels is pumped to have been chosen for his new assignment: to assimilate with students at the local high school. Tan's assignment is the first major step in his secluded society's overall plan to integrate with their local California community. His genetically enhanced mind and body make the transition easy at first- Tan breezes through his homework and stuns the judges and onlookers at his first gymnastics meet. He's also managed to capture the attention of Paisley, an artsy barista he discovered in history class. He feels less fortunate to have also captured the attention of Whitney, the girl his new friends say he should want.
When Tan's twin sister goes missing, he's ordered to put his assignment on hold along with his still-new relationship with Paisley. In the search for his sister, Tan secretly discovers some mind blowing information. Has the society's long -established goal of complete assimilation morphed into something much more sinister? When his new high school friend, Cole is found dead, Tan must face the possibility that the high commanders in his own beloved society may have had something to do with it.
With forty-eight hours to figure it all out, Tan and his posse find themselves faced with choices not merely of life and death, but of who lives and who dies. And the rot at the top may be closer than Tan would ever have imagined.

This is my first novel:

Blurb:
It's all fun and games until someone gets eaten.
Seventeen year old Daniel ‘Jerry’ Jericho’s life is thrown into a blender made of claws and fangs when he’s dragged into the middle of the supernatural world he never knew existed.
After it’s discovered that his blood has the ability to remove the age old weaknesses from which vampires have always suffered, he becomes the most valuable human on the planet. Drinking his blood makes them immune to silver, stakes and even sunlight. But the door swings both ways and locked inside his veins might be the key to creating a permanent cure that would completely eradicate the species.
Now he’s being hunted by a group of sadistic bloodsuckers, studied by witches, psychics and professors while being protected by a pair of vampire sisters who are constantly on the verge of killing each other. On top of all that he has to deal with teenage hormones and loyal but worried friends as he tries desperately hard to find out what makes his blood so special.
However, the supernatural world might be in for a shock because this kid isn’t going to be a vampire’s happy meal without putting up one hell of a fight. From here on out it’s hunt or be hunted and Daniel Jericho is armed, grinning and ready for some monster killing. But going up against an undead army led by a souped-up ubervamp isn’t exactly a two for one special at the Playboy mansion.
It’s going to get bloody, but that’s okay because Jerry is blood heavy.
If anyone is intrested, I'm currently doing a giveaway. Feel free to PM me. :)

It's available on all eBook platforms, and also direct from the publisher.
"For Shanna, joining the Scout Corps had been a dream come true. The Scouts were charged with expanding their knowledge of Frontier, a hostile planet their ancestors had crashlanded on 300 years before. As the youngest in her class, Shanna struggles to find acceptance and respect amongst her older peers - a task made more difficult by the fact that she has not just one, but two of the colonists' huge feline companions, their starcats.
On a routine patrol, she and the other cadets are swept up in the greatest challenge yet to be faced by the settlers of Frontier. Now they find themselves on the very frontline of a war they knew nothing about, and possibly the Federation of Race's last chance against the hostile Garsal. Suddenly their world has changed, and in ways never dreamed of by Shanna and her fellow scouts."

Will the future destroy our civilization? Will the Earth revolt against the demons humanity has unleashed? Will humans transform themselves to rebuild a more compassionate society? Would you? Or is it already too late?
The rising storms of corporate greed, peak oil, climate change, pollution, species extinction, new viruses, and over-population have wrought an apocalypse in the not-too-distant future. Life there is recognizable, and yet a hauntingly contradictory blend of high tech and horse-and-buggy. Living on the precipice of this apocalypse, Alma and her brother Uly toil to maintain a mountain homestead safely tucked away from the pitiless corporations which control what remains of a technologically advanced civilization. There, Uly’s mysterious panic attacks might go unnoticed by everyone but his family. But then their parents, working for a corporation to study a virus that attacks the human genetic code, join the long lists of people who have inexplicably Disappeared.
Their mountain paradise shattered, Alma and Uly must make a choice. Do they hobble along in relative safety without their parents? Or do they risk a journey to Disappeared, knowing the corporation will send assassins to stop them? Their extraordinary odyssey through rugged mountains, parched high deserts, dangerous squatter towns, and surreal cutting-edge walled cities leads to cataclysmic discovery – about their civilization, their government, their environment, and ultimately about what it means to be human.
Enjoy!

The Reaper always gets what he wants.
Rae Miller should know this by heart. Born with the ability to see the Grim Reaper and track his passing, and cursed by being the object of his ire, Rae has spent most of her life avoiding people around her, trying not to get close to those that will eventually die. But when the Reaper offers her a deal, a chance to be free of him, she takes it. The Reaper's deal sends her into the Twilight Realm, a land torn between the powerful, ancient Ivali, and the human men and women that have claimed a small portion of it for their own. Rae's task is to search for the Shard of the Star, a legendary weapon from a bygone age.
Unfortunately, it seems as though fate has other plans, because Rae is the Arbiter, a human meant to mediate disputes between the Ivali's High and Dark Courts, and although Rae wants nothing to do with her position, the Courts have no desire to let her go so easily. Rae must decide between obtaining the Shard and giving it to the Reaper, or risking her life and other lives that hang in the balance to fight him.
Excerpt:
"Think on the nature of Source." The High Lord's voice sounded distant, like it was coming from far away, instead of right in front of her. Rae gasped for breath as the power flared up around her, and she lost all sense of place, all sense of time, all other sensation, her mind filled with the High Lord's light and the High Lord's power. "You learned to reach your own Source. Learn to reach mine, in the same manner…"
In the same manner…
Cathel had taught her how to reach her own Source. He had taught her that in order to reach her Source, she must understand herself. She needed to reach her Source in a way that she herself would respond to. But how could she take that same teaching and translate it in a way that applied to a High Lord of the Ivali…?
The High Lord had spoken of this a few days ago. They were different. Their abilities were different, and their desires were different. She couldn't treat the High Lord as someone who was the same as her. And neither could she treat the High Lord's Source in the same way. But what did she know about the High Lord…?
What did she truly know about Alcian?
…Alcian was a spirit of the wilds. She was queenly and regal, but she would never be confined to a castle of stone. In the same way, her Source would never be confined—it would rebel at any attempt to capture it, any attempt to confine it in four walls. It wanted to flow, to go its own natural way.
Immediately, she released it, floating upwards and away from the sea of power. Alcian's power withdrew from her, and she felt the pressure on her chest ease up for a moment, allowing her to gulp down much needed air as the power below her continued to fluctuate. She couldn't reach for it. She couldn't contain it. But if she couldn't contain it, how was she supposed to grasp it?
What else did she know about Alcian?
Alcian was…Alcian was a paradox. One minute she could be Ania's tender mother, the next she could be casually discussing Rae's death. She was detached from the whole situation with the Reaper and involved at the same time. She was both passionate and aloof, both secretive and at the same time, incredibly open. She was a queen who scorned formality, a ruler who lived in ruin. She was a summer day and a winter night, light and shadow. She was cold steel and forge fire, still waters and raging storm. She was…
…An image came into Rae's mind in that instant, the image of silver light against the black stone of the ruins she and Cathel had found themselves in.
She was the moon.
She was all of its moods, all of its shifting phases. She couldn't be confined to one definition. She was duality.
Four walls could never contain her. A hand could never grasp her, because it would only grasp one face of her at a given time. And she was more than that. She was more than one side, one face. And her Source was…her Source…
Rae stared at the shifting waves of power beneath her and took in a sharp breath, grasping her own Source in her hands. She cast her Source into the endless shifting sea of Alcian's power, then wove it upward, the threads of Alcian's Source weaving into hers as it flew up in a bright arc. It soared over her head and then back down, alternating patches of light and shadow.
Alcian's Source couldn't be contained. It could only be encouraged to flow.
The threads of power she had captured broke off from the original Source, completing the circle around her. Pure darkness above her head, pure light beneath her feet, and the shifting shades of gray in between.
Alcian was the moon.
And her Source flowed in a circle.
Rae gasped as she felt that power flood into her, the circle wrapping tight around her. Bright light exploded behind her eyelids, and she felt herself being bodily hurled away from the High Lord, her world dissolving around her as she lost all thought, all feeling.
The light took over.

Inside a secret hiding place in the attic of the old Chamberlain house in Petersburg lays a diary that has not been touched in over a hundred and forty years. While moving a table, fifteen-year-old Em steps on button releasing the latch to the hiding place. Slipping the diary in her Capri’s pocket, Em takes it home to delve into its secrets. The last page of the diary shocks Em with the mysterious murder of Captain Robert Chamberlain, the diarist husband. Saddened by the murder of Sarah's love, Em goes back to the old house to return the diary. But before she can take it up to the attic she disappears into the past, arriving five days before the murder of the captain. Before she can accept the fact that she has really time traveled, Em trips and hits her head. She regains consciencious and is dismayed to discover she has no memory and doesn’t recognize the strangers around her. As she recuperates with Sarah Chamberlain and her niece, a feeling of dread plagues Em. There is something she needs to remember and time is running out…

My novel, DiSemblance, is a young adult techno-thriller. That means it has one element of science fiction because my main character's father invented a hologram machine that can create digital immortality. Here are just a few words from a couple of the reviews it has been getting:
…To say we enjoyed this book would fall short of the truth. We freaking loved it and that’s saying something when BOTH of us like it. We can count the number of books we’ve both read on a three-fingered hand (not including the Harry Potter series, that’s just a given).
…This book kept up a fast pace, and I was never bored. The suspense and action of the book really peaked my interest and kept me reading. There were so many mysteries to solve, and I was eager to have my questions answered.…
…DiSemblance is a solid story with plenty of action and excitement. Shanae Branham is a budding author to watch, and it will be intriguing to see where she goes next!
I am new to the Goodreads community and looking forward to making lots of new friends.
Cheers,
Shanae Branham
